A song to live your life by.

Well, I've already attempted to save your souls a little with Mates of State, now THIS is something REALLY special. This is music to live your life by.

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Thou Shalt Always Kill

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yoN6XfyQsr4

I bought this ages ago, of course, but it won't even have registered on your planets just yet (those who play Nickleback in the car, for instance). It's a list of rules ("thou shalt not watch Hollyoaks, thou shalt not buy Coca Cola products" etc), and was a single of the week in NME (even though "thou shalt not read NME" was commented on in the review) a while back and also became known for its "the Beatles? Just a band. The Beach Boys? Just a band" lines.

In short - its a modern masterpiece. Smart, funny, finger on the pulse stuff from two guys who should be house hold names by now, but are too clever and original to ever reach Generation Dead-Eyed.

Listen. Learn. Love.

Don't abuse children, or else they'll turn out like me.

I know the song, thanks. I worked in a student radio station until recently. We get under the radar songs by the bucketload. Not that this was really under the radar (I heard it many a time on Radio 1). Shame that you seem to think that uncovering a song makes you somehow 'better'.

I can't make my mind up about this song. I HATE the lyrics, something about people giving me a list of rules that I should live my life by really rubs me up the wrong way. I'll live my life however I like thanks.

But it is very hypnotic, and I like the tune. But in no way would I say I liked the song as a whole.

Shame because I like Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip.

It is, of course, fairly tongue in cheek though. Any song that has the line "thou shalt not judge Lethal Weapon by Danny Glover" can't be totally serious.

It's still ace, though. And I don't listen to the radio so I have no idea if R1 played it or not (though I'd imagine it was Zane Lowe), but I'd bet a dollar to doughnuts you and me are the only ones to have heard of it, Mars. Oh, and Isis, of course.

I think you have too little faith in this boards membership Mudge.

I do think there is supposed to be a 'tongue in cheek' vibe ('thou shalt always think for yourselves'). But, I get the feeling that this is how they want you to understand it, when, in actual fact, they are deadly serious.

And yes, it was Zane Lowe mostly, but also Jo Whiley and Colin Murray. I love the latters show by the way. 10-12 Mon-Thurs night. Well worth a listen.

Mars - in another thread you remind me that this board was formed by fans of reality television, and that you openly discuss pretty much every piece of reality dreck on the box.

And then you wonder why I have such little faith in you?!

It started on Reality TV, yes. But the membership of this board also contains some very intelligent, witty and quick minds.

Just because you like something, doesn't mean you have to follow that way of life.

There you go again, Groucho. And you still haven't answered my original question - didn't you used to like me? What happened?
