I thought this was quite an exciting news item! Thousands of parrots live wild in suburban England and increasing 30% each year. Was Jimi Hendrix responsible?

Quote:

Grahame Madge, spokesman for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), says parakeets are bigger and bolder than some of their native rivals - and "are quite capable of evicting other birds".

They also like fruit and he says that if they moved into fruit-growing areas, it would pose problems for farmers.

There has been a small flock of parrots in my local park for about a year now. I have seen them "mobbing" a heron on one occasion.
Becky Blackburn, Lee, London SE12

Quote:At present, the RSPB says parakeets are particularly concentrated in the west London, south-west London and Thames Valley area - and this has given rise to the urban legend that the birds originally escaped from a container at Heathrow airport.

Something must be done about these illegal immigrants, if they are after asylum-seeker status, they should be subject to the normal process.

Send them back I say and stop them from terrorising true british birds.

Pah.

Well I welcome them and would actively encourage them with specialist foods, fruit and sunflower seeds - actually I am going to dedicate my 33 sunflower seedlings to the ever growing parrot population.

I SAT LET 'EM STAY!!!

They bring a bit of colour into an otherwise grey British Isles - they can talk, whistle and keep us amused - I can see lots of reasons for letting them stay.

I always cook with wine, and sometimes I actually put it in the food.

As do the Krankies, the cast of Ballamory, Dic and Dom, The Chuckle Brothers.

You people bring it on yourselves, really you do.

To me, to you, to me to you, if they breed on the scale that Barry Chuckle does [allegedley] then we may be in for some problems!!

However
Quote:Esher Rugby Club's ground was observed to have had a parrot population that grew from 800 to 2,500 in the space of three years
think what that is doing for their tickets sales????

and I bet you that not one single one of those parrots had a valid season ticket.

Something should be done to protect the law-abiding citizen against these menaces. :mad2:

We had a flock of them that sat in the tree at the end of the street when we lived in middlesex. When we first moved in Dad came back from the shop in disbelief and we thought the move had sent him round the bend.
