Betting on the Grand National

Out of respect to the discussion regarding a different aspect of the race, I'll keep this separate.

If you don't like a gamble on the big race, then obviously you can ignore this.

Of those who are going to have a flutter tomorrow, do you have any hot tips?

Paddy Power is paying out on the first 5 at 1/4 odds again, so I'll be having an each way bet on 5 horses trying to get a couple of them in the frame.

I've got a pretty good idea of what I'll be backing, but will post nearer the time when I get a better idea of the odds.

Secrets, it's time for our annual challenge again Smile

Okey dokey i'll post my five tomorrow then.

I have a friend whose house backs onto the course, and he says the ground is lovely, around four inches of grass, and the going is good to soft at the moment.

Tonee, the easiest option is to use one of the online bookmakers. In that way you don't even have to leave the house, though you will have to provide them with your credit card details so you can place a bet.

Off the top of my head, Ladbrokes, William Hill, Blue Square and Paddy Power all provide online betting services - just Google for any of the names. The advantage is that you don't have to enter a 'seedy' betting shop, although I think they've probably improved a lot recently and on Grand National day you'll be in there with mothers and toddlers all putting on their annual bet.

I haven't used a betting shop for ages, but as far as I know there'll be betting slips on which you enter the race, i.e. Grand National Aintree 4.10, the name of the horse/horses you want to back. The type of bet, i.e. win or each way and the amount you're staking. But there'll be loads of other people in there, so just ask the person next to you - that's what I always did if I was in doubt.

The Cat household will be placing their bets today....will be perusing the papers then will let you know who's going for who.

I had a great day out there about 13 years ago....spent most of the time in the beer tent - BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING - but ventured out to watch the Big One. The biggest shock of the day was discovering that Aintree was in Liverpool! I thought it was in london - DOH!

I usually have a bet on this. A horse each way for each family member, but I haven't been down town to go to the bookies.

But good old Nox has given me the idea of online betting.
I'm off for a ganders
