Beware Of Of What You Throw Out.

Found an interesting little article on the yahoo news page today, so just thought I'd mention it, as identity theft is on the rise and we should all be very careful.

I'm a shredder of paper. In fact I read somewhere that recently the sale of paper shredders has gone up dramatically to combat this type of identity theft. They aren't very expensive and are definitely worth the money.

Surveying the surveys

There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and surveys.

We'll examine the - shock! horror! - survey today that suggests most of us fail to shred documents we put in our dustbins, leaving us open to identity fraud.

The survey was carried out for ... a company making shredding machines. Hmmm.

And why is it so few of the newspapers - or the BBC for that matter - have seen fit to mention that the survey might result in a sales boost for the people who paid for it?

The above is a quote from my daily Newsnight email!! Interesting huh! also interesting is that I can't take off the blooming italic key!!

I'm a shredder of personal papers Dolores.

However, recently several banks who somehow have worked out what my credit rating is and have recently posted to me details of great big loans and various insurance packages.

In addition to this when Panorama did a programme not so long ago about fraud, deception identity fraud etc the banks have since that date inundated me with insurance packages to protect against all these forms of identity theft with all the respective jargon quoting the statistics.

I know several concerns have a lot to gain, but the problem of identity theft is still real.
