Do you miss your old school friends?

How many of you have been seperated from a friend by either distance or just time... and whenever you have a drink, you reminisce about old times and wish you were back there?

I have had a few drinks right now so I may regret this thread in the morning, but tell me that some of you feel the same at some times in your life...

Friendships you make at school/college can be very lasting, perhaps because you go through so much together and have many shared experiences to draw upon whenever you meet again afterwards.

As Friends Reunited has shown, there's a lot of nostalgia associated with school friends and a lot of fond memories. And for some - who were perhaps less than successful with the school sweetheart - some sad memories too!

Hmmm, FR has been having a bit of bother too haven't they? Seems some who were sweethearts at school, grew up and married someone else, have been rekindling their affections. It happened to a member of my family - till his wife sussed it out! *Ouch*

I was a forces brat - so went to far too many schools to keep good contact. Do keep in touch with a couple though!

Do you miss your old school friends?
Until I moved to Devon, I still saw a handful of people that I was at school with on a regular basis, I socialised with a large group of people back in the Mids, and most of us had known each other since we were in our teens, some since we were babes in arms, and then along the way, we all bought new people to the group........

Ohhhhhhh I realise how lucky I was now...hadnt really thought about it before, and I do miss it - I had that "friday feeling" yesterday, the one where you are gagging for a pint after a stressfull day at work, so you meet up with the girls and then the lads join us and we all end up in the full-on session till the following morning Blush :drinking:

On the other hand, since moving to Devon, I make more of an effort in keeping in touch with people, I also have regualr contact with a couple of friends I have known since I was 4, but when I was still in the Mids, we didnt have as much contact - weird isnt it!

Just read this, thinking you had just posted it and thought BLIMEY, that girls worse than me  :drinking:

Still living in the same town I see lots of people I went to school with around, but my closest two friends I don't see often. But when something happens to bring us together we contact each other immediately, deaths usually

I can't say a really miss anyone from school, my brothers and sisters have always been my closest friends. :bye:

Sorry I had one too many last night (this really doesn't happen often these days!) and started getting really home sick... Im from South Africa originally though Im half welsh and quarter English... anyway I felt terribly home sick. I woke up thinking what on earth did I write on "survivor" and remembered that I'd called half a dozen of my friends in South africa, run up a huuuuuge phone bill and made them think Im a raving alcaholic!!

The thing is, some of the friends I had when I was younger were so solid. There was so much time invested in the relationship because there was nothing else taking up your time like working and raising your family. I sometimes feel like I will never be able to re-create anything like that with anybody else. Identify anyone?

Anyway you must know I love this forum now cause I had friends over and even managed to sneak in some posts!!!

I don't keep in touch with any of my friends from school. Just kind of lost touch along the way.
But then again, I've moved about a bit, Blackpool Sheffield, Florida and now norfolk.
I have made some great friends along the way, but somehow I have lost touch with them.
I have one friend who I went to college with who now lives in New Zealand, who I keep in touch with.
A couple of friends from Florida I still keep in touch with.
But since moving here I have made some great friends in this area.

I think that every move I have made has been a different part of my life, ie Sheffield moving away from mum and dad, Florida - travelling and met my husband, then here - family life. and I think the friends I have in the different areas reflect the way my life has changed.

Do you miss your old school friends?
I'm a bit like Eternity, I moved around alot, so haven't kept in touch with any school friends. Except until about two or three years ago I got very very drunk one night (for a change!) and joined Friends Reunited. I sent out a couple of emails to a few friends I had from the ages of 10-13 and met up with them (separately). The funny thing is the one who was my bestest mate and we used to have such a laff with at the age of 13 was just not my cup of tea anymore. She was still nice enough, but i felt no compulsion to meet up with her again. The other one who I was friends with in a kind of "was in the same crowd" way I've kept in touch with and see her about three times a year. It does help that she lives not far away and that she is a single parent with kids, like me, so we have a lot more in common than when we were 13.

I've had lots of jobs too and I'm never very good with keeping in touch with old work mates - far too much effort! Although I do have a group of about six friends from my previous work place and we do meet up occasionally but over the last year or two it's been less and less ...things move on don't they.

Still on the bright side at least I have a very small circulation of Christmas cards!

... i only came online to visit Delia's site for tips on how to season a frying pan ...

Do you miss your old school friends?
Hi Claire - Good thread!

I haven't really experienced things from your perspective - although I've travelldn and lived abroad, I've never been apart from the people I love for so long that that I feel melancholy about it. Well, not in a serious way anyhow....

But, I have experincwd it from the opposite end i.e. someone dear to me leaving me! And believe me, sometimes the people left at home feel the same misery!!!! They don't have all the new people and new experiances to distract them!

My sister (who I am very close to) left 3 years ago to live in Dubai. The little cow is gonna move to Bejing in January and may well move tp Singapore or Chicago after that. Without a thought for ME!!!!!

My best mate moved to New York 18 months ago and will probably NEVER come back to the UK.

Its desperate really. I miss both of them madly and have tried to fill their places since they've gone, but I can't. Best I can do is visit them where they live and try and capture some of what I've missed...

...it's hard though.

If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your style.
