Exhibitions....etc.

I saw a fantastic exhibition at the weekend. It was called 'Kingship and Sacrifice', and is on display at the national museum of archaeology, in Kildare street. It consists of a collection of preserved Iron Age bodies, and related finds.....weapons...utensils...jewellry and implements. (One of the ancient chaps even had a type of hair gel!) The bodies are in various states of preservation. It was amazing to stand there and stare at these pre-Christian, pre Celtic bodies. I hope they did'nt mind me gawping down at them.
And yesterday I went up to visit NEWGRANGE....which..in my humble o is one of the coolest places on earth. It is a megalithic Passage Tomb, consisting of highly decorated stones and containing an inner chamber, which is illuminated by the Winter Solstice every December. It is older than the Pyramids. I have a particular fondness for Newgrange because it was the first place I ever worked...I had a summer job there once-upon-a time...one fabulous summer.
Some of the ancients were great all the same.....

There was a tv prog a while back about two of these "body in the bog" finds. Very interesting - I remember they mentioned the hair gel there too.

I read that as Exhibitionists !!!

Can't say I'm too interested in a megalithic Passage containing an inner chamber, which is illuminated by the Winter Solstice every December!

Not sure if this counts as an Exhibition, but whilst in the Netherlands we visited the city of Lieden which has a fascinating Botanical Gardens. There were trees there around 600 years of age. Others were huge and so majestic. It was really pretty and lovely to walk around and look. Unfortunately due to lack of rain a lot of the flowers had withered and died. Sad

I saw this Mik and was going to mention it to Aon...but you beat me to it. Also saw a good show on the bridge they found in Ireland that crossed the bogs and all the swords and tools and stuff they've found along the way of 'digging' the bridge up. Verrrrrrry cool and interesting stuff. I'm shamefully a Discovery Channel nerd!!:nerd: I'd love to see the exhibit though Aon.

I guess I'm Cornish...
