My punctuation and spelling is terrible....I know there are many little tips to help you remember rules...for example..."i before e except after c" for the ie, ei rule..but I know there is an exception ...what is it?

Also things to make you remember collective things..."30 days have November, April June and September...etc"

Theres one to remember the planet order isn't there - what is it?

So lets share and help the illiterate ones such as myself bounce into spring grammatically correct.

For remembering the planets - My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pancakes. (Of course, there's a newly discovered planet that I can't remember now, cos it ain't in that phrase.)

Smile At your service Ma'am.

Another one for the planets is 'Many Volcanoes Erupt, Mouldy Jam Sandwiches Usually Niffy Poo'.

Stationary and stationery - e is for envelopes.

Stationary and stationery - e is for envelopes.

The one for envelopes etc should, yes, the one for 'still' is with an a. But you only need to remember one spelling and the other comes automatically. Hope that clarifies.

oooh great thread Cat!

I can never ever spell "necessary" without saying "Never Eat Cress Eat Salad Sandwiches And Remain Young" .... a girl told me this at school when I was about 12 and I've never forgotten it!

My son also had a mecahanism for spelling "because", unfortunately he always got it wrong - he said Big Elephants Can Always Understand Little Elephants!!! Becaule! He used to say Little instead of Small - bless him!

... i only came online to visit Delia's site for tips on how to season a frying pan ...

I think you'll find you need a capital letter after a question mark, Dolores.
