Handy Tips

This one could run for a bit, anything you have found to save money, hard work or time, just pop it here and do us all a favour!

Mine is silver cleaning, I have just inherited an old silver bracelet laden with charms, but it was very grubby, and in dire need of cleaning.

Line a bowl that will take the article with tin foil, add a handful of soda crystals and top up with hot (not boiling) water. Pop the silver into it for a few seconds and watch the water discolour as it cleans. Take out, rinse and dry, the difference is amazing.

Depending on what you are cleaning just adjust the bowl size and amount of crystals, but be sure to line first with the tin foil - that is vital for it to work!

Thanks for that Nitsy, I love tips that save time and effort. And I detest polishing the silver anyway - so will give this one a go!

Mine is washing windows. To get that extra sparkle, once the window has been washed a nearly dried - used scrumpled up newspaper to get the window streak free and gleaming.

I always cook with wine, and sometimes I actually put it in the food.

To clear blocked drains pour some Bicarbonate of Soda down and then vinegar, leave for a bit then run the tap - works unless there is a really major blockage!

here's a good one

When you have a dinner party don't get waaaay too drunk and turn into "Mr Dogmatic the boring fool"

This way you avoid being in the doghouse (I reckon for a week) as I am in today

woe, my friends, is me

Can someone give me a handy hint on how I can get rid of the smell of onions from my fingers?
You see, I cooked a meal for Miss PJ on Friday night (which was a complete disaster might I add) and I was dicing onions. I can still smell onions from my fingers despite scrubbing them ovefr and over!

Make a runny paste with the old Bicarb PJ, and rub in well. That stuff is a must have for most emergencies.

Or half a lemon, and liberally scrub hard for some time, your hands, finger nails and wrists with the halved bits of lemon - it brings your nails up a treat!!

Totally fab tip for a dentist - bearing in mind where your fingers are going!!

I always cook with wine, and sometimes I actually put it in the food.

Patsy - I'd rather not say where else they've been...

Eternity and Flip - thank you! I shall try both your suggestions at once!

Peej-I cook w/ a lot of onions and lemons, or the juice is the best, as Flip et. al. stated.

I guess I'm Cornish...
