Ideal Partner

Lots of you are married, but you can still join in. In fact, you have to join in. It's like cheating, but not!

So we all have an ideal partner, somebody who we hope will one day sweep us up and just be really ace. For those married or taken, think about it in retrospect. What were you looking for back in the day of the singleton? And how does your partner compare?

My ideal partner would probably be the following. Somebody who is:
  • Intelligent.
  • Cultured, who can motivate me to try new things.
  • Funny, and finds me hilariously funny too.
  • An independent thinker.
  • Willing to make something of themselves.
  • My best friend as well as a partner.
Oh dear, I'm not asking for a lot am I?

Scooby, would you be happy still if that person was:

More intelligent than you
More cultured than you
Funnier than you
Made more of themselves than you
As well as your best friend, found it really easy to make lots of other friends

I only ask this as I think that alot of problems in relationships occur when someone sets out a "wish-list" of what they're looking for, finds it, settles down with it, and then discovers that certain inequalities in the relationship become enormous stumbling blocks to their own happiness.

I guess it's a case of careful what you wish for. Smile

Cheerio.

Well - let's be honest - that's not really possible is it?

Well, I would I would suggest that there is no such thing as an ideal partner as such, as it's often the surprises in a relationship that are the best bits.

However, as a happily married father of 3, I can say that what would attract me to a member of the opposite sex, should I find myself in a parallel dimension now is:

Someone who I can trust on an intellectual level.

Someone who is not particularly judgemental, or has a solid set of rules.

Someone who empathises with me on a sexual level and has a desire to explore and experiment.

Someone who is clever, yet pragmatic.

Someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously.

Someone who is funny.

Someone who knows how to be sexy.

Someone who is disgustingly rich.

I'd probably be happy to perm 7 out of 9 on the list.

Cheerio.

I think I've struck gold with the partner I've got. Don't worry - I'm not going to bore you all with a long list of his good points, but suffice to say that I landed on my feet when I met him. Smile

But I've been thinking about what I was looking for in a partner before I met him and to be honest, I think I was remarkably unfussy. Looking back on old boyfriends, the only things they all had in common was that none of them were monsters, they were all easy going and they all made me laugh. So, I reckon that's what my criteria was - they had to be chilled, passably attractive and make me laugh! But then, in those days, I wasn't really into long term commitment and didn't take the whole "relationship" thing all that seriously.

I got a bit more fussy when I started to realise that I wanted something permanent with someone. At that point I started examining their long term goals as well because I wanted someone that I felt I could be happy with in old age, rather than just the here and now.

But I don't think I consciously thought "he's got to have this that and the other". Generally speaking if I liked the bloke, he was well in with a chance.

If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your style.

Groucho, I didn't realise you'd met me!!

All I ever wanted in a partner was someone highly intelligent, extremely open minded, with my bizarre sense of humour and penchant for doing impressions of everybody I know, who understood my ability to be the most seething mass of contradictions you could ever (not) hope to find.

And I found him.

Now I just need a good seeing to and I'll be well happy!! :wink2:

I suppose my ideal partner would be someone who

  • Has a wicked sense of humour and can make me laugh
  • Respects my point of view
  • Gives me the freedom to be me
  • Finds me very sexy
  • Is very sexy themselves
  • Has a nice kind face & eyes
  • Has a fit bod
  • Is a non smoker/non drug taker
  • Is well endowed and knows what to do with it
