Logic Problem

My mother in law has just phoned me with my neice's homework and I am sitting here trying to work it out but I just can't think where to start!!!

1 Gold Chain = 2 Silver Chain

3 Gold Chains + 1 Silver Chain = 1162 gms

Question - How much does a gold chain weigh and how much does a silver chain weigh?

Call me thicko, call me stupid but what's the friggin' answer and how do you work it out?
:nerd:

1162 divided by 3.5 = 332, so

1 gold chain = 332
one silver chain = 166

Well, I think you have to say that 3 gold chains = 6 silver chains, plus the one silver chain = 7 silver chains.

Divide the weight by 7 and then you get the weight for one silver chain?

Then multiply that by 2.

1 silver chain = 166 g

1 gold chain = 332 g

Oh, I see Floopy has beaten me to it - well done Floops Smile

See Crtique's post below - once you see it, you realise how simple it is!

I am sure I would have worked it out eventually.............but as it stands I am a thicko!
