Apparently, your metabolic rate changes as you get older. This theory supports the idea that people are destined to get fatter as they age.

Do you accept this as fact?

Yes, It`s been proved that an 18 year old, sitting down, will burn more calories than a 70 year old walking round. I am not happy about this fact Sad

Hmmm - so how come toddlers are so chubby? Smile

Apparently metabolic rate also changes with muscle mass, so one reason for older people to have a lower MR might be just that they're less active, and hence have less muscle.

There certainly seem to be plenty of skinny old people around. There's hope for us yet!

Interesting.

Y'see I don't agree that people are destined to get fatter as they age.

I can't argue with the fact that metabolism is designed to slow as you get older (unfortunately, its scientific fact) - what I do disagree with is the idea that there is nothing you can do about it, although I would have agree with that statement a year ago. In recent months I have managed to change my metabolism, and it is as efficient now as it was when I was in my twenties. Frankly, I am astounded. I'm 10lbs lighter than I was 3 months ago and I've also lost any trace of cellulite I had. And I wasn't even trying to lose weight!
