HOw do I get my XP system to automatically connect to the internet after my automatic broadband connection has been etablished?

Your automatic broadband connection IS your connection to the internet. Do you mean how do you bring up your browser automatically? Just place a link to the browser in your startup folder (in your Start menu).

Alternatively, have a good look at the properties for your dialup link. I've never tried this, and it's harder than the above suggestion, but usually dialup links have an option along the lines of "run script before/after connecting". Edit the script for "after", to run your browser. I can hunt around for some clearer instructions if you need them.
