Only one home under new rules

The government is planning on putting a stop to people owning second homes in certain areas, particularly popular sought after areas. The new proposals will allow local authorities to stop outsiders and non-locals from buying properties that they won't use as their main place of residence.

This is a great idea for my area. We've got a load of DFL's buying up all the properties and pushing up prices. This in turn pushes the locals out of the market, as they just can't afford the inflated house prices.

Down From London 's

I think this is yet another case of the government interfering in our freedoms.

I actually don't think that this does increase property prices for the bulk of housing. OK so it may inflate the odd thatched cottage and twee converted barns but the bulk of rural Britain isn't like that any more.

If people can afford to do it what is wrong or should we all just roll over and let Nanny State tickle our belly button fluff

Yup - Down From Londons

So the rich just get richer and push the poorer natives out? Perhaps the natives could move to the ghetto/housing slum down the road?

As a great lady once said "you cant buck the markets!"

The natives probably just need to work a little bit harder.

I've been working in the North Midlands recently.

Cheap as chips.

Honestly, there isn't such a gulf in the wages so why are they whingeing. I think its just that that's what's expected so they do it.

Why don't the buy a studio flat or similar in the smoke?

I mean they come to town and clutter up our tubes not knowing where they are going, go and see the big shows...(In shocking states of dress), hobbling around because they dont wear shoes very often, frequenting Angus Steak Houses (if only we could get rid of those horrors) Gggggrrrrrr

Fecking grockles make me mad.

Is it not the locals who are pocketing these inflated amounts of money from the sales of the houses?

can't have it both ways surely.

Yet more nanny state b*******

Some people invest in property, because it's a far better option than ripoff pension schemes - it's called planning for the future!
