Selling vinyl - records, not flooring

Mr V has a huge collection of vinyl albums which he would like to sell/dispose of before we leave next May and has asked me to enquire whether any of the good folk of SO know the best place to sell such things? To be honest neither of us can be faffed with EBay and the best thing would be to take the whole lot to a dealer. I know there are a few collectible disks in there and I think he'd be willing to sell those seperately but otherwise he's not fussed where they go.

Any ideas?

Voice, I have a heap of vinyl records, that I will probably never play again, but I just can't bear to part with them. There are some really, really naff & very embarrassing ones there, but some really fantastic ones. I have been tempted to buy an old record player just to hear the good ones again.

Is there a local record shop that may buy them from you?

Has he got a list of what they are and what condition they're in?

Well he has literally hundreds SF, but I can get him to do a list of the most interesting ones by the end of the week. Would you mind looking a few up for us?

OXFAM? CAFOD? SCOPE?

Unless they are exceptionally old/rare they'll be worth virtually nothing so might as well let them go to a good cause which may also bring a little cheap pleasure to others. All quick and easy.

Bella, could you not find a turntable from an old hi-fi? I saved mine so that I could still play records as all my classics are on vinyl. I have to admit that it's so much easier to shove in a CD and you don't have to get up every 15 minutes to turn it over, so it doesn't get used that often.

I don't think it's as easy to shift records at car boot sales these days. I reckon the dealers have cleared up most people's old stock and can't be bothered to look through yet another boxload of seventies rubbish.

Lucy's idea sounds the simplest VOR.

Yes Lucy and I suspect that's what'll happen to most of them. The only problem is that most charity shops don't want inundating with huge piles of one thing. We discovered this with the 300 books we took in! In the end we split them up and delivered to 6 charity shops locally. Guess we'll have to do the same with the records.
