Shoes that have touched your life

in honour of Cockney's magic boots, I am starting this thread to honour those shoes which have touched/changed/marked your life in some way.

We all know how important shoes are, dont we?

The first pair of shoes that started my shoe-love were the pair of white sandals I had for my first communion. They were the first pair of shoes that I was ever allowed to choose for myself, and certainly the first white pair - all my other shoes had been sensible brown school-uniform monstrosities.

I begged and begged and begged for a pair of wedges when I was about 14 - and wasn't allowed anything at all trendy. After much pester power I was allowed a pair of cork wedges with a blue denim mule over bit - with a red flower on, they were from Marks and Sparks - and I thought I was the bees knees in them.

I so loved them!!

When I was young we were very poor and the only shoes I had were my black school lace-ups (dry your eyes - I've more than made up for it since - lol)

Someone gave me a pair of red leather slip-ons one size too small for me. I didn't care, I loved them and wore them anyway ignoring the blood and blisters. Touched my life? yeah they sure did - left me a legacy of deformed big toes and huge bunions - lol.

My first don't-need-to-ask-mum-if-I-can-buy-em boots were thigh length, high spiky heels and so wonderful I had to wear them the very next day.

It was snowy and icy and college was at the top of a steep hill. After 3 or 4 attempts (picture if you will a scene from a japanese game show...) trying to haul myself up using the railings at the side of the road, I was rescued by a workman from the building site opposite (oh how they laughed) who upended me over his shoulder and delivered me to the steps of the college.

I was wearing a very short mini-skirt and have known no shame ever since.

it must be the Essex in me, but when I was abotu 12 i had another pair of white shoes, like ballet pumps with ribbony bits that crossed over and tied at the ankle.

I loved them so much I wore them to school, over navy blue socks, and changed into my school shoes when I got there.

I can remember when I was about 15 (1980) having a beautifull pair of real wood wedges. They were a soft tan leather on the top, solid wooden wedge about 3inch heigh with a 1cm thick ribbed rubber leather soul that griped like ****.

I felt like a queen in these shoes.
