Sponsorship

Now my subscription has lapsed I'm weighing up whether or not to renew it. Can I ask Haydon, what are the subscriptions used for? Is there a cost associated with running this site, and if so may I ask what it is?

Hi sf,
This web page details the benefits of upgrading your membership...

The subscriptions are used for my finances - as simple and as straightforward as that.

To be honest I don't know the exact cost associated with running the site. I have to buy the vBulletin license (£48 pa) and hosting ($50 pm) (I have other sites on the same server so it's difficult to say exactly how much is attribitable to SO). I've also purchased some skins - can't remember how much they were - about £20? I will probably buy other commercial hacks/addons when they become available. The rest of the costs are my time in moderating, updating, managing, modifying and improving the site.
I'm trying to work towards SO actually making me some profit. :shocking:

sf - your decision as to whether or not to renew should be based on membership benefits
