Cat, this sounds very much like either a virus or some sort of spyware/dialler thing...

Can you go to Start/Search then "files and folders" and look for explorer.exe? See where it appears.

Right...That is not where explorer.exe should live (it should be in system).

That suggests you have a virus that has copied the name.

Have you got up to date Anti Viral software?

NB FFS don't delete anything...it won't be as simple as that!

Cat, out of interest I looked for explorer.exe on my computer, and there are loads of them all over including the prefetch directory that you mentioned.

If you think it might be a virus or spyware causing the problem have you done as Ceridwen suggested and run an anti virus tool?

If you want a good spyware tool, it's one I used to cure my recent problem, I'd recommend Microsoft Antispyware Beta Version Free Download
but you'd also need to run a good antivirus tool.

I think so, it wouldn't do any harm to run it as it has fixed things on my machine that AVG couldn't fix. If none of this works, you can get a free trial version of NOrton Antivirus as recommended by Blink in the last post of my Help - Blink! thread and where you can find a link.
