Wired routers
Anyone know about routers and connecting two computers to the internet. I basically want to connect my x-box 360 to the internet and also have my computer connected as well. I'm assuming I need a router/modem for this. I don't want to go wireless so a wired on is what I need. Most of the ones I'm looking at have a ethernet connection (which would connect to my x-box) and a usb connection. My question is, can I use the usb connection to connect the router to my computer. I ask this as I don't have a ethernet connection on my computer, (I think), and would have to open the computer up and have a ethernet board/connector put in. Am I right in all of what I'm thinking or am I just talking rubbish! ![]() |

The way I went was to buy a BT Voyager router, which you can use either wireless or hard wired. It didn't have a USB connection for hard wiring, it had four ethernet connections instead. My computer only had USB, not ethernet, but I bought a USB-ethernet adapter which did the trick. I didn't have to open up the computer to install it.

Have heard nothing from Andrea since last post here. Am worried that something unpleasant has happened to her. Has she been sucked into her new router by an evil entity like that poor child who disappeared into the TV in Poltergeist?

Andrea,
I've been hanging out at a forum called >Computer Hope< - it's a free online technical support forum. I've written a >networking FAQ< for that forum, which may be of use if you get stuck. Author of the fantasy thriller, Insensate - available for all ebook readers and iDevices. Find out more >here<. Only 49p/99¢! |
