Word Help - Please!!

I am having problem saying a word.

and the word is Des Moines.

I am giving a presentation at my WI tonight and a crucial* part of my presentation is the word Des Moines, Iowa. Now I can say Iowa very well indeed - but the life of Mary I cannot say Des Moines!!

I can say Des as in Des O'Connor, but my Moines comes out like Moyns. I feel it should start mwah - but then I get a bit silly after that.

I am sure it is something a little more exotic than my feeble and niave attempt.

Help!!

*[actually that was a bit of lie it is not that crucial - but I need to be able to say it anyway]

I always cook with wine, and sometimes I actually put it in the food.

My limited vocabulary in French tells me it should be pronounced, Deh Mwahn. But I'm sure someone better versed in French will tell me I'm wrong.

Ah, the lovely city of Des Moines - the state capital of Iowa!
Flip it is pronouced "de-moyn" (silent "s" at the end)
Hope that helps!

(The reason I know is that I have family there!)

Oh you see Tiggs that is far more exotic than my Des Moynes.

But would the French bit matter if it is in Iowa, USA??

I'm with Peej, Flippy. That's how I always thought it was pronounced. De Moyn.
