what's your daily newspaper?

What newspaper do you read? Daily/weekly/not at all?
What section do you head for first? What do you not read at all?
Do you trust the reporting? Does the newspaper have a political slant - if so what (I am always dense about this).

I read The Times every day. I go straight for the British headline news and read some in detail, then scan the World news for interesting stuff, followed by one or two comment articles and maybe some letters. That takes about twenty minutes. If I have any time later in the day I might look at other sections, including occasional articles by guest writers, and once a week I dip into tech and net, culture, and books.

The paper leans centre of right in a moderate manner. I always read with my inner eye fixed on the fact that Rupert Murdoch owns the paper, and despite protestations from successive editors that he never influences their policy... I'm dubious about that. But I'm comfortable with the reporting values, while holding onto my cynicism.

Here's a brief overview of British newspapers: http://www.mediauk.com/the_knowledge/i.m..._in_the_UK

Yahoo News I'm afraid, and then google anything interesting to try and get a good cross section of views.

When I do buy a paper it's The Times. Crossword first for me.

On Sunday, if I'm up in time, I buy the ones with the best scandal on the front, and the best freebies. Sunday Times in the winter though for firelighting purposes.

Forgot to say, I read it online. But I also buy the dead tree version on Sundays in winter for feeding the fire during the week.

I read anything but I will buy the Irish Times ever day. Sundays, it is the Sunday Independent. Maybe because this is a small country, both papers have a feel of the local about them. Depending on what day it is, influences what section I turn to first. News, health, appointments, couple of journalists I am beginning to follow their leads as I have got used to their style. Crosswords sometimes but always on a Sunday. As it has many irish references, it is a test to see whether I get them or not ie how much I have absorbed of the culture.

I read the Times becasue it's the paper we get at work.
I find it has too many adverts for posh jewlery shops and too mnay personal adds too. I like reading the T2 though
For news I prefer to listen to the radio as the newspaper is often just one person's view on what happened

The winner says it may be difficult but it is possible; the loser says it may be possible but it is too difficult

The only newspapers I look at are the local freebies. I read the news on the BBC website.

I don't buy any national newspapers on a regular basis.
I just buy the local daily paper, the Eastern daily Press.

Thanks for that link though Dab, I've always been interested on the political slant of papers and never knew what the were.

but love this quote from the link...

Quote:Daily Sport, is closely linked with the pornography industry, and consists mainly of a diet of fanciful stories, any stories or trials connected to sex, and a diet of nude women on almost every page, although no pubic hair is shown.

hehe, no pubic hair shown because it's all been shaved off:w00t:

Telegraph - front page/back page/business/sport, then the rest if there's enough time.

I think the reporting is reasonably honest, if somewhat anti-New Labour.

I buy and read the 'Irish Examiner' every day.I like the way it covers international stories, and local stories. It does not just concentrate on the capital. It has no agenda,no sensationalism, and I find it very 'human'.
I also love the music and arts sections, and the excellent sports section.
On a flippant note, I LOVE the photographs.Recently, the photos of the 'Tall Ships' race which took place were just outstanding.
