View Full Version : Fireworks
maxine 04-11-2004, 02:14 PM Anyone having any fireworks or going to any public displays?
I've just been out and bought some fireworks after Dolores put me to shame by telling me that she's having a firework party for her son. I thought maybe I ought to be doing something for my 2. Usually we just have a couple of sparklers each and watch all the neighbours'.
Bonsai 04-11-2004, 02:18 PM We went to a small display at our camp site last weekend - but nothing this weekend. I will be staying at home with my son (puddy cat) who is scared stiff of the things - and will be administering loads of cuddles and snogs.
Voice of reason 04-11-2004, 03:04 PM Well I asked my two if they would like to go to any of the organised displays near us this weekend and they said No....and as I'm not fussed either way I think we'll stay home and watch X Factor instead!
sheoque 04-11-2004, 03:47 PM We went to west Midlands safari Park on the 30th, we 'safaried' then we saw the indoor creatures They have a small theme park so a few rides then the bonfire and firteworks and back to the rides, less than £15 for an adult for the lot. We go to the school fireworks and bonfire tomorrow night, that is costing almost as much as the safari park! Our village one with jazz band Bar B Q and warming fire on saturday is donations please and we may go to one next Friday as the display is done by a man who lives locally who goes all over the world putting on firework displays and it is wonderful!
We like local events
We generally to our friends farm where we have a huge bonfire and a few fireworks [the ones you light once and it sets a display of about 50 by itself]. The added advantage of this is we can watch all the displays for about 30 miles around [on a clear night - the farm is atop a mega vantage point].
But this year my sis is doing one at her pub - and Mr F is Chief Fireworks Officer and I am Chief hotdog lady!! Can't wait.
And Voicey - Bonfire night is Friday not Saturday - so shouldn't interfere with X Factor. This is the first Saturday I can actually stay in and watch it since the public could vote [cos I am not working!!!] Big Bloody HOOOOOOORAH!!!!:D [I still hate this smillie]

But most of the organised displays are on Saturday Flippy - not Friday.
Well I will be in Jersey for Bonfire night so no fireworks for me. The boys won't be having any either as we never have a private display.
Our local display was on Monday and although I would have love to have gone as I love fireworks, the boys weren't bothered, so we gave it a miss.
Groucho 04-11-2004, 04:13 PM We're at the childrens school for an organised display on Friday.
I've got a funny feeling I've been roped into working on the BBQ, or something similar.
Andrea 04-11-2004, 04:24 PM I'm taking the kids to the firework display that the school organises, well the fundraisers of the school.
It's only £1.50 for adults and £1 for kids and they have a great time cause all their school mates are there. Unfortunately there's no bonfire though.
I remember as a kid we used to go to my great aunts farm, ride on the tractor to the huge bonfire, watch all the fireworks and then go back to the farmhouse and eat hot potatoes and loads of treacle toffee, yum, yum:D
Adzam 04-11-2004, 04:34 PM I shall be going to my friends house tomorrow with loooooads of my friends to watch a movie, eat hot dogs and watch fireworks! can't wait, I love bonfire night!
ooh, we are going to brother in laws spankin big house in london (6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, double bay). They are having a big party with fireworks by SIL brother who's a pyhramaniac, huge bonfire  .
As they are new to the area, they are inviting all the neighbours too, from their stonking big houses. Should be good fun, I have bought a new outfit.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, FISHZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, BANNNNNNNMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
:D rinking :holiday:
floopy 04-11-2004, 06:29 PM We've had a bonfire party for the last five years - we burn all the crap we've accumulated over the previous year and invite all our friends round. The cunning part is that there's a park at the end of our garden where there's an organised display, so we get to watch their firewroks for free, too :D
This year we have Gigi though, who, at 5 months, doesnt appreciate the finer points of gunpowder, so no party this year :(
Oh, I think you would be suprised.
Children like a fizz and a bang.
Well mine do anyway, they have all had biting balloons till they pop, then laughing in common
But they are boys. Boys are not normal.
at 2, 22, 32, or 52...what ever.
Not normal.
floopy 04-11-2004, 07:23 PM she's usually asleep by 6.30 though, bit of a rubbish party
Not for you!! If she's asleep by 6.30, you have time to tart up and flirt with all the nieghbours!!
Well I will be in Jersey for Bonfire night so no fireworks for me.
I lied
Actually I have just found out, we are going to a firework display in Jersey tomorrow http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/party-smiley-020.gif

floopy 05-11-2004, 12:44 PM We're having an impromptu fireworks party in the chatroom tonight at 8.00.
Bring a bottle :drinking:
Bonsai 05-11-2004, 12:47 PM Unfortunately i wont be able to join you now as i cant get into the chatroom. God knows why .... ive never been able to
Oh well, i shall get slowely plastered watching telly and think of you all :D
Andrea 05-11-2004, 01:17 PM Aww, I might not be able to make it for 8pm. Kids at fireworks display and all that:(
I shall endevour to get here as soon as I can, and see who is still propping up the bar.
The one good thing is there is a bar open at the fireworks tonight, so none of you can get ahead of me in the alcohol stakes:drinking:
floopy 05-11-2004, 01:23 PM none of you can get ahead of me in the alcohol stakes:drinking:
Ooooh, I think Cat probably can :D
Andrea 05-11-2004, 01:24 PM Yeh, I bet she's already opened her first one now:D
floopy 05-11-2004, 01:27 PM You think the "school fund" is a euphamism for "the bottle of scotch in my dessk drawer"? ;)
Andrea 05-11-2004, 01:31 PM No wonder she's not got much work done today;)
Mashed 05-11-2004, 04:04 PM Roped into 'helping' out at mates house. No.1 she will be far toooo piddled to light a bon fire without going up in flames herself. No.2 she thinks it's fabulous idea to burn all her soon to be ex's stuff infront of her neighbours and her/their children - I think it's quite a giggle too but I don't have to live there. No.3 we bought some sparklers today - we are hoping they just sparkle ... the instructions are all in chinese so no doubt everything within a 2 mile radius will go up in a mushroom cloud.... I'm not keen ... try getting a new wheelie bin out of the council !
What is it with these LOUD mortar-bomb fireworks??? ...... The cat strips the wallpaper off the ceiling, I do involuntary pelvic floor excerises, Mr M awakes from zedsville and accuses me of farting.
30 + years ago the biggest excitement was me dad getting piddled and letting us light a match.... that and him lighting a fag and trying to snog me Ma at the same time and setting her 'is she .. isn't she' harmony hairspray barnet on fire ... oh how we laughed.
Hope everyone has a fab time :)
OYE!!!
I havn't had a drink yet (thinking about it tho). Might have to have a little lie down on the sofa first.
Mentally prepare myself. :drinking:
sheoque 05-11-2004, 04:26 PM I think we are spending a fortune at the school. I deare not NOT go now. Daughter has been in deep deep doo doos for doint what she shouldn't and I really want to not go. Will not going make her feel ebven more worthless
Will going help her feel more of the school community
I JUST WANT TO WATCH FIREWORKS AND REMIND MYSELF HOW CRAP CHEAP HOT DOGS CAN BE.
BUt no now its all down to behaviour managment of a wayward 11 year old.
Tommorrow night two hundred meters and one corner down the road the village willbe a more pleasant affair.
floopy 05-11-2004, 06:21 PM I'm getting miffed now, it's like ***ing Beirut out there now. Poor little pookie's trying to sleep up there :(
Very selfishly (sp), I quite like it...sat here next to the window I can enjoy...the boys have all been treated to a bag of chips fresh from the chippy (7 doors down) and are sat in the darkened front room watching them over the park.
Put the hairdryer on or some music......
floopy 05-11-2004, 07:08 PM she seems to be out for the count now, thankfully :D
survivorfan 05-11-2004, 07:17 PM We've just let off a whole load of fireworks in the garden. I think the manufacturers should be done under the trade description act though. Northern Lights - it mainly whistled, should have been called Northern Whistles. Sunset - would've thought red or orange. It was green. I think 80% were white crackly sparks, all with random names like Aladdins Cave, Bowling Bush (!) etc - whoever makes up these names must live in some alternative reality.
Dolores 05-11-2004, 08:12 PM 30 + years ago the biggest excitement was me dad getting piddled and letting us light a match.... that and him lighting a fag and trying to snog me Ma at the same time and setting her 'is she .. isn't she' harmony hairspray barnet on fire ... oh how we laughed.
OMG - she wore hairspray? I thought that beehive held it's self up naturally!!
Andrea 05-11-2004, 09:07 PM Well as I predicted, at the fireworks display, the kids watched for 5 minutes, then ran around the field like maniacs.
There is only so many times you can say to a 3 and 5 year old, "look boys fireworks", and "Oooooh.........Ahhhhhhhhhh" They were then both looking at me as if to say "Mum, just shut up and let us run around"
Scooby 05-11-2004, 09:44 PM This evening, I set fire to some unsuspecting members of the public.
I am posting from a police cell.
cheerio!
I saw a spectacular fireworks display in St Helier on Friday - the only thing missing was the music.
In previous years we have attended the fireworks displays at the children's middle schools where the fireworks are set off in time with music, which is very effective.
maxine 08-11-2004, 11:44 AM We had a great bonfire night and really it's all thanks to Dolores who inspired me to actually do something myself instead of looking out of the window at everyone elses firesworks.
We had one box of fireworks, sparklers, hot dogs, pizza, chocolate covered apples and lashings of orangeade. It was the bestest firework night eva.
Scooby 08-11-2004, 12:32 PM My Bonfire Night was wonderful.
I served alcohol to merry people, about to go watch the sky with their loved ones. I made sure to short-change a few.
We then bitched about the youth of today.
cheerio!
