Did anyone see this tonight, it was really interesting watching.

It was a program showing short films made by Sagar Mitchell and James Kenyon during the period before world war one.

Alot of it was based in the North-West, showing all the people coming out from working in the mills.
As I come from that way originally and in school we did alot in history about the mills, it was really interesting to watch.
Seeing all the clothes, shops, transport that was used in that era.
They managed to get in touch with relations of people that worked in the mills and they said the same thing that I thought. That previously all they had seen was photo's of their grandparents but to see them in a film made them more real. I really enjoyed watching this.

Tonight's show was the first of 3 episodes, the next one being next week on bbc2

I taped last nights, but didn't realise that it had been on last week.
I think most of the footage was taken up North, I'm from West Yorkshire originally, so I'm really interested to see places I know from years ago.
They featured this on Look North, and it looks brilliant. I love seeing photos and film of how people used to live. It makes me very emotional.

I really enjoyed last nights program.

It showed Sheffield United's ground Bramall Lane (I used to live in Sheffield) and it also showed alot of Blackpool (I come from Blackpool)
It showed the north pier, although they called it something else then, and I could recognise alot of the buildings.

God it was amazing wasnt it? The roads seemed as clogged then as they are today too, which surprised me. Im so pleased that by a stroke of luck these films were saved forever, they are truly fascinating. And how poignant to watch old fellas watching films of their Grandfathers playing footie in their twenties ........

Watched the last one of this tonight and found it fascinating again.

The thing that hit me this time was the parades of the boys brigade and the scouts, and both me and my hubby both wondered how many of those boys went and never made it back from world war one.
I really enjoyed this program, gave an insight into what people were like at the turm of the century.
