View Full Version : funniest comedic actor Woodstock 17-01-2005, 10:48 PM Is it Fuzzy Head or Calamity Chase....? HushTheVoices 17-01-2005, 11:01 PM Neither it was Bill Hicks. Woodstock 17-01-2005, 11:24 PM did Bill Hicks act? Cat 18-01-2005, 06:36 AM I loved Gene Wilder in the Silver Streak. Flip 18-01-2005, 08:07 AM Gene Wilder in Blazin Saddles .... Crystal Lights 18-01-2005, 09:07 AM I just love Gene Wilder - he is sooo funny and a super Willy Wonka! My fave comedy actor though is Steven Martin, I absolutely lovel Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Parenthood - absolute class! Coastie 18-01-2005, 09:09 AM Gene Wilder easily wins out of those two.....Chevy Chase just annoys the heck out of me! :glare: Best though...Steve Martin always makes me laugh...although the funniest film I've seen ever is 'As Good as it Gets' with Jack Nicholson (but then he's not exactly a comic actor as it were!) :cool2: maxine 18-01-2005, 01:23 PM Out of those 2 I'd go with Gene Wilder. I loved 'Stir Crazy'. I also like Steve Martin although 'Cheaper by the Dozen' was not one of his best. And what about the late John Candy? He was great. Woodstock 18-01-2005, 01:25 PM I just love Gene Wilder - he is sooo funny and a super Willy Wonka! (said Crystal Lights) There's a cigarette paper between them but I voted for Chevy (Cornelius Crane Chase) 'cos I was first exposed to his stuff when I saw Vacation (and me and my mates went around quoting that film for a few years to the point where we just got fed up with each other) way back in the mid-80's. But Wilder in The Producer's - absolutley fantastic performance. Yep! - also amazing in Willy Wonka (that roll-over he does I keep having to play back again and again for my little neice....cracks us both up!) Actually tried to copy it once and had to be rushed to intensive care! Woodstock 18-01-2005, 01:34 PM Gene Wilder easily wins out of those two.....Chevy Chase just annoys the heck out of me! :glare: although the funniest film I've seen ever is 'As Good as it Gets' with Jack Nicholson (but then he's not exactly a comic actor as it were!) Fair enough. Jack Nicholson is still amusing as ****** in Easy Rider and quite fantastic in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (which I haven't seen for years and years....which I suppose speaks volumes for the resonance of his performance in that movie) I though they could also be known as comedic actors..?? Is it comedy, comedic, or both??? (or is there no such bloody word as comedic...I must admit it doesn't sound right!) Woodstock 18-01-2005, 01:38 PM And what about the late John Candy? He was great. Yes! Yes! yes! John Candy, eye candy....what a truly watchable actor. Loved his work. And I feel quite ashamed I left him out of this poll but something tells me he wouldn't get as many votes as he deserves. Was actually very sad for a few days when I heard of his death. Seemed like a lovely guy as well. Cat 18-01-2005, 05:56 PM When did John Candy die  Coastie 18-01-2005, 06:04 PM I think it was about 10yrs ago now Cat...... Dolores 18-01-2005, 06:08 PM rock .... hard place! I think out of the two I'd say Gene Wilder cos he's funny and disturbingly sexy! But best comedy actor IMO is probably Jack Lemmon - The Odd Couple is still one of my fave films and makes me laugh everytime! he was aslo excellent in Some Like It Hot. ... he's dead too. Coastie 18-01-2005, 06:11 PM Ooo he was hilarious Dol...I used to like Jerry Lewis before I found out that off screen he used to beat his wife and kids! Dolores 18-01-2005, 06:18 PM Ooo he was hilarious Dol...I used to like Jerry Lewis before I found out that off screen he used to beat his wife and kids! Sometimes I think it's just aswell we don't know what a lot of these people get up to in their private lives! tooooo scarey! Coastie 18-01-2005, 06:23 PM Carey Grant always made me laugh in his comic roles too....but then I always had a bit of a thing for him... floopy 18-01-2005, 07:25 PM I despise both of the poll options, I'm afraid. I'd have voted Bill Murray Cat 18-01-2005, 09:54 PM At the moment I just collapse to the ground with lust and laughter for David Walliams. Coastie 19-01-2005, 07:27 PM I despise both of the poll options, I'm afraid. I'd have voted Bill Murray Ah yes but Floopy...you must remember that Bill Murray stands alone in the world of comic genius.....he is way and above any poll that may appear featuring these regular comic actors.....You simply cannot compare.....Scrooge, What About Bob, Stripes, Ghost Busters etc...etc....just have me peeing my pants with laughter every time I watch....Genius! :cool2: floopy 19-01-2005, 07:44 PM What About Bob is my all-time fave Dad: I just want some peace and quiet Kid: Okay I'll be quiet Bob: and I'll be peace    Bella 19-01-2005, 08:14 PM Agreed Bob Candy was hilarous! I also like Robin Williams - he has had a few misses but he was brilliant as the genie in Aladdin! :) Coastie 19-01-2005, 09:14 PM What About Bob is my all-time fave Dad: I just want some peace and quiet Kid: Okay I'll be quiet Bob: and I'll be peace    I have to have a 6 monthly dose of Scrooged myself......Brilliant! :cool2:  Woodstock 20-01-2005, 06:41 AM When did John Candy die  Yeah Coastie's about right...a decade or so ago. Another one of those who collapsed during filming. If I could have ever chosen an uncle it would have been JC - lovely guy. ....and I could have picked you up on a grammatical error up there but I'm no stickler.... ------> ? <------ Woodstock 20-01-2005, 06:45 AM .......come to think of it he died while I was studying down in Somerset (ooh-arrrrr) so it was approx. 8 years back. Like I said....I'm no stickler  Woodstock 20-01-2005, 06:50 AM disturbingly sexy! nice expression. I'm going to pinch that and store it away for future ref. I too loved Jack Lemmon and Walt Matthau in the Odd Couple. The poker scenes just crack me up - some of the comments and banter are teriffic. Also the cafe scene where Lemmon embarrasses Matthau. (not seen it in a while so i forget the character names) Woodstock 20-01-2005, 06:54 AM Agreed Bob Candy was hilarous! a small grammatical error (you can blame Cat for this) brought a whole new comic actor to the world.....I introduce to you.....Bob Candy! Woodstock 20-01-2005, 06:58 AM I have to have a 6 monthly dose of Scrooged myself......Brilliant! :cool2:  forget Scrooged....Scrooge is the film. I'm going to surprise a few people here but I actually believe that Albert Finney's performance in that masterpiece of a film is the best performance by any actor from any era in film......ever!! Pandora 20-01-2005, 05:40 PM Yeah Coastie's about right...a decade or so ago. Another one of those who collapsed during filming. If I could have ever chosen an uncle it would have been JC - lovely guy. ....and I could have picked you up on a grammatical error up there but I'm no stickler.... ------> ? <------ He was only about 42 years old, and one of my all time favourites. I was truly upset when he died. Woodstock 20-01-2005, 05:50 PM Carey Grant always made me laugh I just don't know...perhaps it's just me but I find Cary Grant ultra-wooden. Maybe I've not seen enough of his work... Woodstock 20-01-2005, 05:55 PM I despise both of the poll options, I'm afraid. I'd have voted Bill Murray Bill Murray could be the driver of the next taxi you call for. Got nothing on those two. Sorry.. Woodstock 20-01-2005, 09:46 PM ....taxi driver you call for.....that doesn't even make much sense. Apologies! No, the Murray character put in a sterling performance in Caddyshack and was good in Ghostbusters also - he's just not got that aura about him in the way that the other two have. |
