Floopy that has to be one of the most frightening pictures I have ever seen on this board.....thanks for the nightmares which are sure to follow!

Oh and I'm working tonight by the way....incase anyone was wondering...which you probably weren't as you are all merrily chatting away in the chat room no doubt and comparing nipple size and each persons individual zit popping abilities.....but that's fine...I shall just stay here and talk to myself.....it's the only time I get to have an even remotely intellectual conversation anyway.....now where's my teddy bear?

I'm off to the local crematorium tonight.

No, not a funeral, but my ladies circle night out tonight.
We are going to have a look around the crem, kind of back stage tour.
My hubby reckons its a bit macabre, but to me I'm interested in what happens.
Its only a body that goes through there, its a shell, the soul of the person has gone, imo.

I've only ever been to one crem service as well. Our family have always been buried, so that is the norm for me.

Oh and of course the obligatory visit to a pub afterwards for food, but no beer for me tonight, my turn to drive.

Oh, Andrea I don't know what to think of your night out! One part of me thinks it is good to see that it is not just about dead bodies and the like but the other part of me is thinking along the lines of your husband!

Enjoy your pub meal afterwards though and you must post about your experience tomorrow, I am interested to see what you think about it!

Enjoy your pub meal afterwards though and you must post about your experience tomorrow, I am interested to see what you think about it!

It was a really interesting night out going "behind the scenes" at the crematorium.

I won't go into too much detail in case anyone doesn't want to know.

But for one, I didn't know it was owned by a huge company that is profit making. I don't know but I thought it was owned by the council?

For all those of you that are envoironmentally conscious, one girl there said she wanted a cardboard coffin. The guy screwed his face up and said they were very dangerous because the "ovens" get that hot, when putting a cardboard coffin in, it often starts burning before they can get the doors shut:ohmy:

And he also mentioned that to burn one body takes the equivalent amount of gas that would light up a small village for 1 day:ohmy:

But I really enjoyed it and there was nothing macabre about it.
Apparently he does tours like this once or twice a week.

As one of the ones who didn't want to know too much but kind of wondered, you have answered something that was bothering me. I often wondered if they actually burnt the coffins. I had this awful mental picture of what might happen and didn't want to go there.

I imagine they take off the brass and things first though?

I have other questions about the ashes too but not sure if I really want to know.

They don't take the brass handles and things off, but basically pick them up afterwards. They have a magnet that they use to pick up all the nails from the coffin.

Yes we saw the grinders.

He also mentioned about certain funeral director leaving shoes on the bodies which they shouldn't do. Shoes = rubber = lots of black smoke

He also mentioned about one that somehow had an aerosol can in the coffin. The funeral directors blamed the family, the family blamed the funeral directors.
Well basically, this guy at the crem wasn't happy because the door blew off in his face:ohmy:

Oh I watched the live aid show last night.

It was really great to look back at everyone who was on there and to actually see how brilliant Bob Geoldof was for managing to arrange it all.
And what was the American promotor like, they should have sacked him from day 1.

I was in tears when they showed the clip of Africa and then the crowd in London with everyone in tears.

And I agree Fee, about Bono being a twonk, always was and always will be.

Have I missed something here Dab? Are you "sailing" as in away to distant exotic shores or "sailing" as in going out in a boat for the day?

Last night i got very very drunk .

I was quite content, sitting eating pizza and watching Big Brother when Mr.B got a text from one of the guys down the pub asking him if he was going down as he fancied playing darts. Well - Mr.B didnt need to hear anymore and promptly announced that we were both off to the pub for a quickie.

So we got there about 9:45 .... and we rolled out at 1:30am. Blimey - i drank enough gin to sink a battleship. At one point i had 4 shots of gin with a splash of tonic as everyone there was buying them for me !!!

I had a right job getting out of bed this morning, and it took me till about 1/2hr ago to feel remotely human again.

Oh well - another hour and the party will start again with my in laws .... and more drinking will occur. My poor liver

Well for the first time in donkeys and yonks and ages we are going out!! A couple of friends of ours have been feeling increasingly sorry for us lately and they have decided to treat us to a slap up Indian, preceeded and succeeded by a large amount of alcohol.

I am soooooooooooo excited - I cannot think the last time I actually got dressed up to go out for a 'proper' night out.

Once he's back downstairs with his dad (any minute now) I am just going to loll about and do nothing.

Still trying to make up my mind whether to go to my brother's in Wales on Tuesday. He's invited me. The thing that's putting me off is the thought of getting the ironing board out  plus 6 hours on the train.

ooooh I know this is tonight - but I wasn't in last night to put this in. But last night it was my monthly WI and we had 4 other institutes visiting and we were to have a Hairdressing Demo from this up and coming 'trendy' haridresser. He let us down at the last moment - so our president arranged a trip to Wallington [where I may be working v. soon] - it is a Nat. Trust property.

And we had an evenings carte blanche to wander the rooms and look at the exhibits - it was wonderful. My lovely old friend Patricia still lives in the house [her father bequeathed it], and she wandered round with me and told me stories of her playing in it when she was a little girl. [for the girls; there is the most FABULOUS collection of the most intricate and stuning dolls houses ever - not something I have ever hankered after - but they are amazing]

Then we went back to the Village Hall to have supper and chats and a lovely cup of tea.

If there is enough interest our pub is going to invest in getting their top field laid out properly.

There is a cup in our pub dating from 1921 to 1968 and Butley (the pub) is on the cup many a time as winners, but the sport has died, so we are trying for a revival. I hope it works as its a shame that these old 'traditions' die.

I cant play though as the steel rings you throw are so blummin heavy. I think its definately a mans game

Excuse my ignorance Bonnie but what is quoites?

Its a game where you throw metal hoops. You aim at a metal stick which is surrounded by concrete - and i think you get points for how near to the stick you get.

Very basic, but apparently good fun. It was originally thought up as a game of strength. You can get kiddy versions using rubber hoops.

Thanks for that Bonnie  I think my kids use to have something similar when they were younger (the rubber hoops version). I didn't know it was called quoites though!

I am going babysitting for my friends three little girls. Fortunately none of them is called Megan (as per supernanny last night) and they are the most adorable little girls I know - I don't know that many people with girls, most of my friends have boys -at least three each..

Absolutely nothing. I cant even take the dog for a walk as the rain water is 10 feet deep (slight exag).

So i will hope home, feed / water the animals, have a bath and then lounge around reading, watching rubbish on TV and generally feeling at peace with the world.

Could I suggest the thread title is changed to what did you do last night? That way we get to find out if someone who was planning to stay in and watch Coronation street with a cup of Ovaltine and a packet of pringles actually ended up meeting an attractive stranger at the bus stop and spent the night in a scr*wing frenzy under a hedge.

Spent the whole evening building a computer desk with my son's help - then took him for a pint to say thanks.

No hedge or Pringles related activity to report I'm sorry to say

I'm on "spider watch". Last night a freaking great black spider came hurtling across the floor, going like a greyhound it was and I have a phobia about them so I let out a screem and poor Mr C nearly had another heart attack.

It ran under my computer desk so I lunged myself at the sofa, drew my feet up and sat there shaking. While Mr. C was waggling a stick under my desk to try and chase it out I happened to glance to the other end of the room and it was speeding across from behind him but made a dash to the safety of under the furniture.

So I've spent the day in a state of panic and paranoia in case the wretched thing suddenly appears again.

Something similar happened to me last night. I was sat watching TV last night at about 10pm when i felt something tickling my forehead. I brushed it off, and it was a ruddy great spider !!!!! Im petrified of them, and i didnt know where it went  I spent the rest of the evening tickling all over thinking it was running on me, and sitting bolt upright in my chair on spider watch

I worry about my friends and family plus we will get a lot of wind and rain wich can turn into tornadoes, and hail, wind damage. but stiff upper lip and follow protocol. Mr. just called and told me to check around the house for anything that can fly if/when the winds get up.

Chilling out now.

Up at 6.00am to do a boot sale, then watched the cricket whilst catering for a dozen or so on the BBQ.
Just finished the washing up , and am very tired now.

Just seen on the news that it was a category one when it went through Florida but now has winds up to 140mph.

We once had to board up our flat and I was stuck working in the hospital (which we had to evacuate to a hospital further inland as ours was on the coast) when I lived in Florida and there was a Hurricane warning.
We kept looking out of the window for winds/rain/hailstone all night. But nothing happened, it was probably one of the quietest nights I'd ever seen there.
It had gone further up north.
