Are you finding life with only a handfull of inadequate smilies frustrating.

I know I certainly am....if I feel happy, what do I have:

Sickly, strange and corpse.

I can watch tv, get angry be confused...shocked even. BUT...

I cannot dance, spin on my head, drink both beer and wine....letch. I want to do so much more.

Let us stand together and fight for our smilies

They are our expression...they are our soul.

Pledge your support..

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Cat, for voicing my own feelings so well.

I feel bereft, hindered and emotionally handicapped without that expressive outlet that is the smiley.

Had I never had them, perhaps I would have lived a different life, but to give them freely only to take them away??

How cruel, how terribly terribly cruel...

It is a sad moment... so pivotal and emotional...

How can the world continue in this current state of affairs...

I am used to posting without smileys. In fact, I rarely ever use them.

I have the ethos that people on Survivor Online know how to read, therefore smileys are not needed in my posts. Let's work towards intellectuality, whereby in five years time, we might all be speaking in Latin.

cheerio!

ahhr, but you make my point you see. When I read your posts I picture you expressionless without bounce and rigour.

I'm not saying what you post isn't interesting, it is very and makes me larf alot, but its just how I picture your little face. :)

Maybe I am not so deep and the smilies help give me depth?

I only smile on special occasions. I may, in fact, have mustered one or two at the meet.

cheerio!

Am I the only one who prefers the board with less smilies?

Nah, I'm not much fussed with them either Mink, although I am a bit of a winker ;)

Surely the point of smilies it to help convey tone and sentiment on a written medium.

As such, the more of them there are, the less chance there is of any confusion occurring if they're used correctly and sensibly. :ninja:

Used incorrectly, however, they are a menace and will undermine the very fabric of our society. :wink2:

I think some people here really need to ask themselves if they are mature and responsible enough to use smilies. :closedeye

IMO the forum would be very boring and bland without smilies

There is an option to turn off images in posts although that would mean you would also not be able to view pictures in the photo forum unless you enabled it again. You can also chose not to view avatars or signatures as well

Yes, I have sigs and avatars disabled, but I wouldn't want to disable the smilies because sometimes without them a comment can be taken the wrong way. Sometimes a smilie is necessary to convey the way that a comment is being made - but I do think they are overused on most messageboards.

I like things nice and simple, I don't have an avatar or a sig and rarely use smilies......that's the way I like it.

Oh.... we are so different Mink :)

I love the avatars and the signatures - I feel it conveys the posters personality and the colours brighten up what for me would otherwise be a very bland looking page.

I'm glad you mentioned that Mink. I was just thinking how strangely clean and uncluttered the forum looked when I read your post. The default must be display off. I'm with you - I quite like the minimilist look and presumably you can see more posts per page and it should speed up the loading time.

BTW - Is the default for PMs set to off too. Do I have to enable them before I can use them?

I'll get the hang of it eventually (Just need to work out where the smilies are now so I can add a cheesey grin)

Everything is in your cp, Nox :)

You have to enable/disable everything - if you want to view smilies, avatar's signatures, recieve/send pm's etc. But I don't think you will see more posts per page just because you have avatars/signatures turned off, you would have to change the default for that.

I think it great that the posters that want the minimilist look have the chance to view the mb without out the clutter of the avatar's and signatures etc whilst those of us that like a little bit of colour can still have it - although I think 4 smilies per post is a little bit mean especially now we have such a super dooper fast site ! :wink2:
