View Full Version : What word do you most adore?....... Woodstock 27-01-2005, 08:05 PM It could be "avalanche", it could be "blancmange", it may even just be "flan" .........what word floats your literary boat?? Coastie 27-01-2005, 09:14 PM I have always liked the word: Bottom (it just makes me smile) and I love Schmoo (which isn't in the dictionary but should be!) Cat 28-01-2005, 06:19 AM Lobby I used to work on reception in a hotel and had to announce over the tanoy (sp?) "Could the Blue Vespa party that arrived from Japan this morning please convene in the lobby...thats the Blue Vespa party to the lobby - thankyou" ......I used to collapse in fits of giggles each time. Lobby Kittencat 28-01-2005, 06:38 AM 'Desquemation'. A lovely-sounding word for shedding skin cells. Oh, and I'm pretty fond of the word 'yes'..;) Woodstock 28-01-2005, 07:06 AM Oh, and I'm pretty fond of the word 'yes'..;) "yes" sounds good when it is screamed and sometimes preceded by "Oh" to help it along....and perhaps rounded off with a "!" for good measure..... I like the word "pastel".....and "turqoise"......and "lavender" (...a bit of a coloration theme going on here)........"thrust" is another nice little impact word.... Kittencat 28-01-2005, 07:11 AM "yes" sounds good when it is screamed and sometimes preceded by "Oh" to help it along....and perhaps rounded off with a "!" for good measure..... I like the word "pastel".....and "turqoise"......and "lavender" (...a bit of a coloration theme going on here)........"thrust" is another nice little impact word.... Ooh yes, I like turquoise... do you pronounce it 'quoyze' or 'quaaaz'? Thrust is also good. As is 'grunt'. Woodstock 28-01-2005, 07:12 AM Lobby I used to work on reception in a hotel and had to announce over the tanoy (sp?) Lobby Lobby's a good old American word, yep. Tan(n)oy is a trademark so unfortunately you'd have to replace it with "public announcement/address system" which is an entire 3 words in total (....I counted....) (I think her next suggestion will be "pedantic".....):) No, tan(n)oy is fine - also place names are good to go....such as the amazing "Saskatchewan" (say it - you'll like it!) ils 28-01-2005, 08:51 AM One of my favourite words is Insatiable as it just rolls off the tongue :wink2: Cockney 28-01-2005, 09:00 AM Excellent Exsir...err...lent Mr Burns style and o'really I said that a lot in conversation with posh people who love to talk about them selfs at parties in the nineties But my fav at the mo is indeed Cockney 28-01-2005, 09:03 AM One of my favourite words is Insatiable as it just rolls off the tongue :wink2: I bet you are here roll this off your tongue....... http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_9.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm22755GB) Flip 29-01-2005, 10:22 AM The word that has been rattling round my head lately is 'Nantucket' - I was wondering in bed the other night if there were a family called Tucket, and the children had two Grannies - whether they called one Gran and the other Nan Tucket?? Do you remember the Monty Python sketch to do with 'woody' words and 'tinny' words'?? I like woody words best. Nox 29-01-2005, 02:19 PM I don't remember that one Flip. What's a woody word and what's a tinny word, apart from plank and can? My favourite word is throb because it's omomatothingy. My least favourite word is omomatothingy because I can never remember how to say it, let alone spell it. Flip 29-01-2005, 02:36 PM I don't remember that one Flip. What's a woody word and what's a tinny word, apart from plank and can? My favourite word is throb because it's omomatothingy. My least favourite word is omomatothingy because I can never remember how to say it, let alone spell it. Plops - they did a sketch, and I can't remember the context but, all words were either woody or tinny - so let us take the sentance I have just typed and it goes something like this: Plops - woody [henceforth to be known as W] they - tinny [henceforth known as T] did - T a - W sketch, - T and - W I - T can't - W remember - W the - W context - T but, - W all - W words - W were - W either - T woody - W [obv.] or - W tinny - T [again obv.] I suppose it is a bit subjective - see a word like subjective could be Tinny or Woody and it is sort of up to the individual whether they percieve it to be woody or tinny. I think I would go with Woody - but it is open for discussion!! And I too, love onomatopoeic* words - bish bash bosh etc. *that was the word you were looking for - and it is VERY Woody!!!:wink2: floopy 29-01-2005, 03:02 PM Kuala Lumpur - that's fabulous. Once that was acheived, I slowly started to forget it - until NOW!!!!!:angry:Norbert seems to have affected all our lives in some peculiar way it seems. Pronounced "Den-truss-on", Norbert was released from jail in 1965, 12 years after being convicted of strangling a sheep in Bordeaux. While serving time he began to read book after book after book on the subject of Lorry-Driving, though it was one book in particular (Lorry-Driving for the Criminally Insane - by Pierre Washyourfaceinmycinque) that made him re-think his past wrongdoings and thus upon his release he set about correcting himself. And how. In the space of just five years he built up a fleet of 18 trucks that specialize in the conveyance of pineapples, shop-window mannequins, and skateboard wheels, to mention just some. In 1995, he had his very own book published, entitled "Merde, Merde, Enculer, Merde...." - which became an instant bestseller. Known worldwide, he is now an inspiration to all Knights of the Road.
