.........what's your favourite sit-com/comedy series? (multi-selection activated for those choosing to vote on the poll)
You're poll choices aren't very good again Woodstock
My two all time favourites aren't there as well as many of the very best sit-coms........
Where is 'Just Good Friends' 'A Fine Romance' 'Vicar of Dibley' 'Blackadder' etc etc?

gahhh!......not in the same league - I had them down for the Division one poll, not the Premiership.........let's give this difference of opinion a footballing parallel - the sit-coms you prefer are Brighton & Hove Albion, and the ones on the poll are Chels.....Manchester United......
muchas apologeticas!
In your opinion.....of course
I would have put some of your choices more in the conference league than the premiership

well I too was being kinder than necessary. I would have condemned all your particular choices to the Unibond Premier....(don't know why I'm saying this 'cos Brighton are my 2nd team - on merit of beeting Liverpool in the FA Cup about a decade ago.....anyone remember Mike Small and Mark Gall??....no, okay. So I'll exchange them as a parallel for Milton Keynes Dons)
Coastie 27-01-2005, 09:12 PM Have to say out of that list the only one that always makes me laugh out loud is 'The Simpsons' ...... It's not that I'm a miserable old bag (well only before 10am) it's just well I have a perculiar funny bone....Blackadder oils it well!
Brighton are my 2nd team
Now you're talking! There was I thinking you had no taste at all in ANYTHING especially football! I mean Man U   :ranting:
How's it go
I hate Man U & I hate Man U,
I hate Man U & I hate Man U,
I hate Man U & I hate Man U,
I am a Man U hater!
Wembley 1983 we were robbed!!!!! (bit before your time I think)

Crystal Lights 27-01-2005, 10:59 PM Well i've voted for The Simpsons and the Office.
The Simpsons is just an asbolute classic, clever, witty, sarcastic humour and a parody of everyday life and not to mention the fact that Homer Simpson is just a legend - without a doubt best show to come out of the ninties.
I would rate The office as a close second - when i first saw the show, I was like oh my god david brent is my boss, gervais just captured the embarressing, cringe worthy and funny moents we all experience at work... though i have to admit my boss cant dance like DB.!
A comedy that I really like that you dont have which i think should be up there is... Father Ted - some classic comedy moments in that show too!
You didnt have my choices on there :glare:
Mine would have to be:
Trigger Happy TV
World Shut Your Mouth
The Royal Family
Phoenix Nights
Scare Tactics (Sky One Sat Nights - very very funny!!)
Jackass
Coupling
Andrea 29-01-2005, 09:11 PM Out of your choices, I opted for The office.
But the show that really has me in stitches at the moment is Little Britain, tears are in my eyes at the mere thought of it.
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh, Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh, Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh:laugh:

Wembley 1983 we were robbed!!!!! (bit before your time I think)I started following the Reds in earnest the year following that 4-0 thumping you got from the likes of Coppell & Co. but I remember a lot of the players from that era - Martin Buchan, the two greenhoffs, Arnold Muhren, Stevie Coppell, Gordon McQueen, Robbo, Gary Bailey etc etc. I was aware of football at that stage but not a fully-fledged Red until 84-85 when good old Norman Whiteside curled in that beauty to save Kevin Moran's blushes....what a great Cup year that was - we beat the other Scousers of the red persuasion in the Semi.....that was enough for me, the rest was an added bonus.....
"When the seagulls follow the trawler.......
....they think that fish will be thrown into the sea....."
Eric always spoke good sense...
Woodstock 03-02-2005, 08:37 AM A comedy that I really like that you dont have which i think should be up there is... Father Ted - some classic comedy moments in that show too!I absolutely love the office - however I worked in one of these environments for a whole year not so long ago and it was never anything like what the series assumes to parody. Ricky Gervais is just fantastic - his and Dave Merchants fingers are on the pulse......I think Armando Ianucci deserves a fair mention too doesn't he?
Anyway, I have both Series 1 & 2 on DVD - of all that adorns my video/DVD library, those are two of my most prized possessions.
And I cannot believe I left out Father Ted - you're absolutely spot on. It's in my top 5 and yet I failed to remember. Funniest scene for me has to be the Hitler moustache/insulting Chinese community piece....HilarybloodyClintonlarious!!...

OMG I cant beleive I missed that one off either Woody.......Mrs Doyle is my ex MIL....ahhhh go on...have a cuppa tea.......
For me the funniest scene had to be when the chick lit/romance author stayed at Craggy Island....and Mrs Doyle was dissing her for the foul language in her books - went something like this
Mrs D "its **** this, **** that..................I'll stick that pitchfork up your hole"
Fr. Ted "really Mrs Doyle" (as he looks for an escape cos he fancies the pants off the author)
Mrs Doyle "Riyyyyde me sideways was another one faaaarthur"
I could watch it over and over again......pricless.....
I started following the Reds in earnest the year following that 4-0 thumping
Actually we outplayed you in the final, it was only in the reply you had the upper hand. And in fact had the ref not been bias and he had sent off Norman Whiteside (which he should have done) for the dirty tackle on one of our players who had then to be subsituted, I feel the 2-2 score line would have been more like 4-2 and cup would have been ours!
But then as now the referees are to frightened of Man utd!

I could watch it over and over again......pricless.....yep! - you're spot on - that was an amazing slice of comedic gateau - perfectly delivered by the Doyle woman - yep, t'was brilliant.....brilliant comedy at its brilliant best. My uncle once astounded me when he remarked that he didn't find the Ted character "all that amusing" - I was gobsmacked when I learned he had passed away (Dermot.....not my uncle - he's still alive) - I wanted more series (these days creators tend to quit while they're ahead rather than maintain the glory which I find such a shame - it smacks of scriptwriting cowardice) If I ever had a brainchild such as Father Ted I'd want to keep it running on the tv screens for as long as was possible. Same goes for The Office, and others (If John Sullivan can manage it with Only Fools....then why can't the new crop emulate those feats?? - scriptwriting cowardice I tell you....)
....soapbox is now free to use.....
MariaRob 03-02-2005, 01:51 PM Fawlty Towers does it for me every time, it may look a bit dated now clothes and hairstyle wise but the humour is every bit as fresh and funny as those far off days of the 1970s. I must have seen every episode over 30 times but I can still be in hysterics, specially the Germans episode and the physiatrists (sp).

I love Fartly Towser - though I always need a nurse by my side when I watch it so she can stitch my sides back up. Very clever scripts and very fresh too - agreed. The Waldorf Salad episode is a confirmed classic. But they're all superb really.
Cockney 03-02-2005, 02:25 PM What about Red Dwarf then or Dad’s Army
Woody woody wooody wooody You just have not though it through have you
See what you should do is have a thread saying what your favourite comedy program
and then after a couple of days have a vote on all the ones motioned in the thread
Not what are your favourite comedy programs out all the ones I like?
Cockney 03-02-2005, 02:27 PM Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please
love that program
Just thought......Father Ted was the NINETIES!!!!!! not the dodgy 80's!!!!!
Pandora 03-02-2005, 05:03 PM Just thought......Father Ted was the NINETIES!!!!!! not the dodgy 80's!!!!! I hated Father Ted. Never got the humour, didnt think it was funny in the slightest .... in fact I find Ardal O'Hanlon a bit creepy

When Fawlty Towers first came out, I remember watching and finding it hugely funny. I watch it now and I find so cringe-worthy embarrassing, I just don't find it funny now.
Dom Jolly the first series was one of the funniest things ever on TV, after a wee bit though, it got boring as it was the same things over & over again. I used to have a good old belly laugh at Shooting Stars, but now I find this utter pants.
Only Fools & Horses have had some outstanding episodes, the one that done it for me was when Rodney won a competition but he had to be 13 and joined the Groovy Gang, absolute class!!
I hated Father Ted. Never got the humour, didnt think it was funny in the slightest .... in fact I find Ardal O'Hanlon a bit creepy
Thats why its so funny Pan - hes a priest.....they ARE creepy
I suppose after the hell fire and brimstone catholic upbringing I find it really funny....I KNOW people who are just like the characters in REAL LIFE
tigger 03-02-2005, 06:18 PM I like Fawlty Towers, it's hilarious.
The episode of Only Fools and Horses that has me rolling on the floor, is the one where the blow up dolls all start blowing up behind the couch and popping up. It's hilarious.
Dolores 03-02-2005, 06:35 PM Except for Fawlty Towers and The Office and maybe Porridge, UK comedy leaves me quite cold and my funny bone untouched.
But give me US comedy any day of the week. i voted for Frasier cos even the bad episodes are great ten times better than any UK series for instance.
I couldn't work out the multiple voting (any pointers anyone!), otherwise I would have also voted for Cheers and The Simpsons. I also love I love Raymond and Becker. Last month the free NTL channel was the Paramount Comedy Channel and for 31 days I had a little piece of paradise in my front room!
oooh and what about Scrubs? that is SO funny, clever, witty and much much better than the green wing.

....well, (he ponders with head cocked to one side and bobbed backwards slightly....) - come on Cock, there have only been the two suggestions thus far that have been worthy of nudging a couple of my own off the poll (Trigger Happy..., & Father Ted)
I never liked Red Dwarf much (apart from one particular episode where they parodied the movie "Aliens" - that was fun...
If my polls are beginning to be the cause of much vexation then I shan't make the effort any longer......(arms now folded and head looking to one side with eyes cast downwards)
I think I'm doing things wrong cos I sing it to my son ...not the other way round!
Nope Dol not at all....this worm is gonna turn
Ceridwen 05-02-2005, 11:23 AM And why oh why isn't Little Britain here? That's the funniest thing I have EVER seen - absolute genius!

Errrr NO !
Green wing is without doubt the funniest thing on TV at the moment.....Is there a DvD yet?
I agree with one of the first posts.........Coupling - bl00dy marvelous - Geoff was hysterical
