View Full Version : Tonight's Show (6/11/04)
Dolores 06-11-2004, 06:31 PM The bad acts get worse and the good acts become more mediocre (except for Rowetta and to a lesser extent Steve).
2 To Go - just go, go, go! They are rubbish and Louis is obviously going for the sympathy vote with Peter blindness, ye gods he even referred to Peter as "Poor Peter" tonight. Totally tastless Louis and patronising.
Tabby - with that guitar is just pathetic! He dances around like some prat on acid and cos he choses rocky songs he tinks he's a rocker ... well he aint!
Rowetta did a great job tonight but even she was a little over the top at some points. Her song still brought a tear to my eye even when she was way OTT.
Steve did well tonight, but that smile is really starting to irritate me!
Thank god for G4 - I haven't laughed so much in a long long time. They were hysterical and absolutely dire. Yep I think they outgrossed Darius on the smarm appeal tonight. I think both renditions of Hit Me One More Time are worthy of joint top awful moments on TV talent shows!! .... with Roger DeCourcey's Nookie Bear closely following! lol!
Shark_Attacks 06-11-2004, 06:37 PM I am so fed up with Louis Walsh - just ridiculous. He is ruining G4 and should at least have learnt from last weeks song choice.
He is so jealous of Mr Cowell. Every week he goes, 'Blah blah blah, something which you know nothing about Simon'. Urgh!
The bottom two tonight should be 2 to go and G4. Also Voices with Soul were not that impressive either. Shame on Louis.
I thought all of the other acts were very good. Rowetta is the X Factor star though.
Voice of reason 06-11-2004, 06:39 PM I quite liked G4, but that may be because I was expecting it to be so much worse! I still think they have given all they have to offer though and they would be in my bottom four this week.
I thought Steve was very good.
Rowetta was also impressive. The problem for me with her is that you are just getting into thinking "Ah bless, she's quite sweet really" when she goes off one one of her mad 'needy' rants and ruins it! She gets on my pip I'm afraid.
2toGo - Just go. And Pete, lose the girl she's holding you back. Louis was pathetically patronising and if I were Peter I'd have been insulted.
Cassie was very weak, the 'ooohs' didn't make up for the lack of a decent Aretha 'growl' I'm afraid.
Tabby - I liked it but the guitar bits annoy me, we know you can play, now put it away
Voices with Soul - just ok, I thought they were out of tune and the harmonies didn't work at all.
I'd have 2toGo and Voices/Cassie in the bottom with 2toGo going.
Groucho 06-11-2004, 06:44 PM I thought Smiling Boy did quite well tonight......showed his vocal talent off.
Rowetta has a great voice singing, they should switch her off before she starts talking though.
Felt a bit sorry for Cassie tonight. I think she's got a really strong voice most of the time, but I think she struggles with some of the lower notes.
There were a couple of times when it sounded very karaoke. Covering Aretha is always going to be double tough anyway.
Rocker boy I just cant take seriously, and 2 to Go had Peter trying to do Way 2 Much in two minutes.
G4 will go I think. They sounded a bit like those blokes on the Jonathan Ross show this evening.
Dolores 06-11-2004, 06:51 PM 2 to Go had Peter trying to do Way 2 Much in two minutes.
Yes it was a bit manic wasn't it! i think Louis knows they are weak and wanted to showcase as many of Peter's talents as possible in a 90 second period to try and sway the voting public to keep them in ... don't think it's gonna work though.
....even though he's had 500,000,000 number one hits and (what didyou call them Groucho!!) ****elife have a new album of somone else's songs coming out - Louis is still a twit!
Fabulous: Rowetta
Good: Steve ... finally understand why he is still in this competition
Tabby.... showman to the nth degree
Cassie ....though nerves made this possibly her worst performance
Unsafe: VWS .....hit too may bum notes
2 to Go ......He is great but she is dragging them down
Horrendous: G4 ...even Darius did it better
Well I loved in order:
Tabby
Steve
Cassie
Roweta
then the OK's:
Voices with Soul [but I am so pleased they explained who was who in the family I had the mother as the daughter and the Aunt as the mother making the aunt the daughter - are you still with me??]:p
And lastly the awfuls:
G4
2 to Go - Peter would have been better off by himself - but even then, talented as he may be, he has no X factor IMO.
jaycee 06-11-2004, 08:00 PM I was stunned watching X-Factor tonight - all my opinions were turned around.
I normally LOVE Cassie - she impressed me tonight when she agreed with Simon's assessment cos I thought he was exactly right.
Tabby I like but I thought he was weak tonight - likewise Steve (sorry Ils). I thought he was ok but he lacked the 'ommff' I associate with the X-Factor.
VWS were off key & their harmonies were all to pot & 2 To Go were dreadful as normal. G4 sang well but it just didn't work.
Rowetta annoys the bejesus out of me but tonight she was amazing........by far the best of the bunch.
Surely it is time for 2 To Go to do exactly that!
& of course, Simon looked his normal sexy self. He looks fab in a suit, don't you agree?
edited to say 'I got my dolphin back, yaay' - with Voicey's help :D
Dolores 06-11-2004, 08:21 PM & of course, Simon looked his normal sexy self. He looks fab in a suit, don't you agree?
Yes I do Jacyee! Much better than the black t-shirt with his man boobs showing!
Dol, thank goodness. I've suddenly felt an overwhelming desire to post a critique on the acts, Simon's man boobs not withstanding. You're right thought, they do stand out like a sore thumb.
Voices with Soul: Oddly, their first week’s song, ain’t no mountain high enough, which landed them in the bottom two, IMO brought out the very best of their talent. Bridge over troubled water was an unusual choice from Louis, but it did force us to concentrate on the quality of their voices with very little in the way of backing track. Their first rendition had flaws as Simon rightly pointed out, but did anyone else notice that the second version for the judges was near perfect? (I realise they concentrated on the bit where their voices were most in hamony) They raised their game more than 2 to Go, and as such I was willing Louis not to be a plonker and allow Simon the casting vote, but to make the decision on what he could hear with his own ears - assuming he's not tone deaf.
Cassie: I thought Simon had more sense but now both Sharon AND Simon have committed the mortal sin. Both have given their artists impossible mountains to climb with classics from female vocalists that can’t be emulated in any shape or form. I admit this a particular bugbear of mine. Even if Verity hadn’t been nervous last week, Whitney’s 'I will always love you' was guaranteed to put her out of the race unless she had a vocal quality to die for. Cassie is just 17 years old and to force her to sing a soul classic from a woman who has been voted the best female vocalist of all time is ludicrous. Cassie had a good stab at it, to give her credit, but she has neither the experience or the voice to pull it off – she was sold down the river and totally out of her leauge with that choice of song. BTW – where was the dancing? I must have missed it. I think she was a very very lucky young lady to avoid the bottom two!!
2 toGo: They previously admitted what they do best is ballads. Therefore in theory, this was the perfect song for them. There is no doubt that Peter is a talented musician, and I personally like the quality of his voice. However, I think the duo do present some problems. When Peter is singing, it’s never quite clear how Emma fits in as she gyrates in the background. If it were a video of the recording, it would cut from one active vocalist to another but all we see is Peter singing his heart out and Emma at a loose end. If it were the xfactor seventies or early eighties style, they'd be up there, but as it is I don't think they are offering anything unique. It's commendable that Peter is blind and such a talented musician and good luck to them both, but it would be patronising to base an innacurate to belive that that alone would sell CDs.
G4: Agree with Sharon, the choice of song was totally bizarre. Louis would be well advised to work with their strengths which are numerous rather than highlighting their weaknesses which are few but by golly Louis has found them. They are different, and they are undoubtedly talented but whether this is enough to sell records to the CD buying public, I don’t know. As far as votes go, I would be concerned that a lot of their appeal lies in the voice and impossibly cute Jonathan who the camera is drawn to and who’s microphone seems to be set several decibels higher than the others...
Steve: A smile to melt the heat and finally a song to go with it. Not an obvious choice but this performance was streets ahead of the previous two. Depends on the break down of the voting public for xfactor, but if a good proportion of them are over say 30, Steve could do very well.
Rowetta: She has a fantastic voice. Personally it doesn't give me goosebumps or even stop my putting the kettle on, but that's just me.
Tabby: 'My oh my' was a tour de force. However, why was Simon being so nice about 'Addicted to love'. It was good but it wasn't all that and the faux guitar is really beginning to grate. It comes down to whether you believe that someone like Tabby would prostitute himself to be on a show such as Xfactor in the first place.
Have I missed anyone?
Andrea 06-11-2004, 10:38 PM G4 will go I think. They sounded a bit like those blokes on the Jonathan Ross show this evening.
Exactly what me and hubby said tonight.
Coastie 07-11-2004, 06:57 AM IMHO:
Steve - Wonderful!
Rowetta - Fantastic (still wouldn't buy her record though as I'm not into her 'sound' - she is very, very good though)!
Voices With Soul - Wobbly voiced at times but deserved to go through (just)!
Tabby - He's an entertainer....good fun but again not quite my thing...thought he did better last week though!
Cassie - I can't listen to her....sorry but she just irks me....yes I'm sure she has a wonderful voice but the whole package just makes me cringe!
G4 - I enjoyed their performance....not because it was a wonderful choice of song but simply because it was so rediculous it was hilarious!
2 to Go - Peter should sing solo and they should have decided if he was going to play piano or sax but not made him play both....it really did look like a cabaret show as apposed to a potential pop act!
maxine 07-11-2004, 08:40 AM Yep, 2 to go deserved to go tonight although most of them were pretty bad and imo none of them have what I'd consider to be the X Factor.
I thought Rowetta performed the best but I just don't like her voice.
G4, similar really, the choice of song was all wrong and it's just not the sort of thing I'd want to turn on my radio and hear.
Steve was OK but still sounds like he's got laryngitis to me.
Cassie looked lovely but sang badly and sorry but what was all that about dance moves - did she deicide not to bother?
Voices with Soul - Simon was spot on about them being out of tune in places and I was pleased to see that Sharon actually had the gumption to criticise one of Louis bands all tho' she had to be pressed by Simon for that. There's no way they 'nailed' that song!
Tabby - so so ordinary.
borneobabe 07-11-2004, 11:08 AM Last night's show was something else. I am fast forming the opinion that the most annoying person on the entire programme is Louis. He has evolved into a petulant child whose main aim throughout the entire programme is to shoot down every comment that comes from Simon's mouth, regardless of whether or not there is a point to doing so. The ironic thing is he has absolutely no right to critizise Simon when he himself makes such appalling choices for his own acts. G4.... well.... dear God.....even I was hiding under the sofa cushion ten seconds into their act last night. What a totally cringeworthy performance... and the thing is... it was obvious on the guys faces that they were dying a death having to perform it. I thought Simon was rather kind in his critical comments... he could have said SO much worse, but I am sure he is sitting back realising that Louis is digging his own grave for himself, without any need for Simon to overdo the comments. Of all the judges now.. Simon is in a very good position, he is left with two of the best acts in the entire contest. Cassie is just a little young to make any impact, and Tabby is looking like a one trick pony now...I would love to pull the guitar out of his hands and just PUT IT DOWN... it looks ridiculous. Rowetta was marvellous as usual, but a previous comment about her looking like a man in drag are not unfounded actually..... she can be a tad scary looking by times, and in my opinion, she looks years older than 38, I would have said she looks like a pretty good 48 year old. Voices with soul...are still a good act, despite ending up in the bottom two now more than once... and Simon was very fair in his comments about them not being in tune last night. The absolute right decision was made last night... Two to Go....are like a modern day Peters and Lee.... for anyone who remembers them...(showing my age now).... and it is simply not an act that is marketable in this day and age. Its getting pretty predictable now week by week who will go...... without a doubt it will be either Cassie or Voices with Soul next week.... I think we are heading for a Rowetta, Steve, and maybe Tabby final three.
Bella 07-11-2004, 01:44 PM 2 to Go - glad they have gone! I half expected for a set of drums to roll up and Peter to start bashing on them. The saxaphone was just cheap.
VWS - I don't know what it is with those girls but I just cannot take to them at all. I don't know if it is image or their attitude. Didn't like their singing last night, it was just awful
Steve - Brilliant and he looked good. I still think he is a very nervous person
Tabby - He NEEDS a band - he would make an excellent front-man for a band, as I don't think he will cut it as a solo artist. That said, thought he was quite good last night.
Cassie - She looked absolutely gorgeous last night and she was nervous, bless! Went up in my estimation cos she agreed with Simon, I know she is only 17 but she didn't spoil it by trying to answer back. Thought she done ok with her song, wasn't brilliant but it was a tough song to sing.
G4 - well what can I say, blown away in total shock, like Dol thought it was quite hilarous and like Sharon was a bit gobsmacked!
Rowetta - Fabulous - she looked stunning tonight, loved her hair, her outfit and although I thought she sung Over the Rainbow better in the Boot Camp, it was still brilliant. I would buy her records.
Well what a show!! Managed to get back from London this morning without hearing who had been booted so I could watch the repeat this morning.
Steve: He was just brilliant, he was the only act that made me stop ironing mid shirt. I loved the song, his best performance to date and he just looked bloody fantastic....megga yumsville indeed. Who back there said there was no oooomph, NO BLOODY OOOMPH!!!! There was so much ooomph coursing thru my veins I had to sit down.
Rowetta: Second best tonight. I do appreciate that she has a very good voice, but its not my thang.
Tabby: Ok, but I can see I will begin to get bored of him unless he tries something different.
Cassie: When she hit the right notes it was really good, but she did make a few bums. She looked good tho.
Voices: Didn't do it for me today....I love that song so was expecting to be blown away. When Hearsay did it and Noel sung the line....Like a bridge over troubled waTer (really pronouncing the T), I cried. I liked Noel.
2toGo: Nothing for me...getting very bored. Do think Emma has really improved in looks tho, lost a bit of weight too hasn't she.
G4: Well, I watched this thru gritted teeth like this :D but not smiling, very apprehensively. I I couldn't work out how they were going to pull this off. They didn't it was crap...they deserved to go. They have talent but not when its used in this way.
Judges:
Louis is making more and more of an **** each week.
Sharon was good tonight
Simon is strangely getting more and more delicious. Watching him and Steve on screen together is becoming a bit treat for me. A double swoon.
The end.
Coastie 07-11-2004, 02:35 PM Simon is strangely getting more and more delicious. Watching him and Steve on screen together is becoming a bit treat for me. A double swoon.
Tell me about it.....I had to have a cold shower! At least one of my friends understands my wierd lustations for Simon (even if I don't fully comprehend them myself!) - the rest well they think I'm half way to the moon! :(

Also Simon's more gentler, caring side is coming out in this show...Verity and Rowetta loved him. Being next to Louis makes his comments appear constructive, not scathing.
Yes, a treat to the eyes indeed.

I'm slowly cumming round to Simon. Steve and Simon?
Coastie 07-11-2004, 04:35 PM Careful ladies we are running :offtopic: and someone is bound to squinny!
Anyway I thought last nights show on the whole was better for Simon's corner than Sharon and Louis compared to previous weeks! The over 24's are going from strength to strength and the rest are getting worse! :(
Simon and Steve remain sexy!
 got distracted again!
Shall we start a Simon and Steve thread so we can dribble in peace?
Andrea 07-11-2004, 10:18 PM I just want to say that when I was watching 2 to go perform all I could think of was a wedding night, them on stage with the wedding couple dancing away.
Shall we start a Simon and Steve thread so we can dribble in peace?
Edit; The dribble smilies not back either is it
I saw a little of this whilst we were getting ready to go out......
Steve - I thought this was his best performance so far, I'm still don't think he has the X Factor but he deserved to stay on that performance.
Rowetta - Absolutely fab. For me she was the best one that I caught....
G4 - Fed up with them now - didn't like their version of 'Baby, one more time'
Cassie - I love her voice, but I really didn't like the choice of song
2togo - I'm glad they have gone - I just see them as holiday camp entertainers...
Didn't see the rest!
Minklemar 08-11-2004, 01:33 PM Last week I thought G4 were awful and expected them to be even worse this week when I heard which song they were going to be singing. I thought they were great though, the best of the night for me.
It could be the same thing as with Voice though - I expected them to be bad so enjoyed their performance more than I might have done if I'd been expecting them to be good.
I didn't like the way Louis tried to plug the Westlife album after Steve's song - he said Steve was good but 'if you want to hear a better version buy the Westlife album out next week' he deserved the boo's he got from the audience.
If he's not careful he'll get people not voting for his acts just because they don't like him.
As for the 'poor Peter' comments, I'd like to know what Peter said to Emma as Louis made the comments - I could see him saying soemthing but I couldn't make out what it was.
I'm slowly cumming round to Simon. Steve and Simon?
Maxine tell me you didn't type that on purpose!!
And I agree about Simon Cat - his comments are intelligent and constructive, unlike Louis' whose comments appear to be reactionary, juvenile and no offence here, but girly.!!

maxine 08-11-2004, 05:11 PM bet she did
I did - I'm sorry.
Coastie 08-11-2004, 07:18 PM Shall we start a Simon and Steve thread so we can dribble in peace?
I've spoken to Steve and he said that we can dribble aver Simon aswell in his thread  (okay so I didn'tactually speak to him but hey he seems like such a nice guy I'm sure he wouldn't mind!)
Max....you're a tart!
Have to agree with the commenst about Louis losing the votes for his acts...he is by far the worst mentor in the show...lets look at the evidence:
G4 - Fantastic audition and an excellent run through the preliminaries as they pretty much chose their own songs (and indeed wrote one of them) - Louis takes charge and they go from a 'Sensational' opening week to worse to absolute dire and all Louis can do is say 'Westlife have a new album out and it has Smile as track number 7!' - I want to thump him for ruining the chances and wasting the potential of such a talented four!
2toGo - He took a solid duet (although Peter definatley out classed the girl) and turned Peter into a performing monkey in the hope that people would think - Wow even though he is blind Peter can do all those things!...erm sorry but I think that all Peter wants to be seen as in a very talented musician...his disability isn't something he makes everyone aware of so **** Louis!
VWS - Cracking till the second round and well they have gone from showing good potential to a wobbly, tuneless trio...the only thing that has improved with this act is their image!
:ranting:
You have spoken with wisdon and intelligence.
I have nothing to add.
PS Wish we still had the drooley smilie.
Dolores 08-11-2004, 08:52 PM [QUOTE=Flip]Maxine tell me you didn't type that on purpose!!
Puleeze! I wanted this glossed over and never mentioned again!
Bonsai 09-11-2004, 08:53 AM Im not Steves biggest fan, but i thought he sang beautifully on Saturday night and im glad he stayed in the competition.
I didnt like 2 to go (and was chuffed when they left), i also wasnt mad on Cassie and VWS.
Im still a HUGE fan of Tabby, and would love him to win. He has the X-factor for me as i love dirty rockers (the same as Sharon).

I just don't get the "dirty" rocker label. He just can't cut it as a "dirty" rocker as Sharon is grooming him for a santised version of a "dirty" rocker for the teen market.
