If I could be bothered I would start a poll about this - I am sick, no I am bloody sick of continually having a cold or sore throat or chest infections or sinus troubles or just feling pants.

Has anyone else got this?? I am normally a robustly healthy individual and have for more years than I can remember boasted about the fact that I rarely got a cold!!!

But since November last year, every other week or so I have been dogged by something virally revolting. I know it is viral cos I went to the docs once [convinced I had a mega chest infection] and was told it was viral.

My eldest has had about 4 colds since October, hubby 2 and tiddles also 2 colds. What is going on??? We have a remarkably healthy diet, we get masses of fresh clean air daily, and yet we are burdened with these colds.

Now I know a few of you have periodically complained of feeling under the weather with colds and sore throats etc - but tell me I am not alone in this being unable to shift it for good?

You know what is a good help for a cold? 2 hot whiskey toddies and a darned good moan on here!! Try it see if it helps!:wink2:

Im sorry to hear that you and your family have been poorly Flip. Ive been one of the lucky ones, and havent had a cold for about a year or so now.

I dont know what the answer is. A doctor on Tv said that when you feel the effects of a cold have vitamin C 3 times a day. It will reduce the lifespan of a cold to a couple of days.

I wish you better.

You are not alone Flip...

I have felt poorly on and off since the beginning of November myself. I have had flu twice which laid me up for 3 weeks each time and now I have a constant cold which I can't shift.

Miss ils was very poorly just before she came home for Christmas (and she is rarely ill) and my youngest son had a very, very bad cold (so bad he didn't go out for a kick about for 3 days - unheard of)....

It just seems a bad year for cold's and flu, well in the ils household anyway!

Edited to say - my eldest son - hasn't had anything at all.

I get that in the winter ! So now use a light box and it has made SUCH a difference. They can be pricey, but these people (http://electronichealing.co.uk/) hire 'em out so you can see if it works before you invest.

I started with a chesty cough in November and thought "hey, at least I won't have it at Christmas" - wrong! I couldn't taste my Christmas dinner and I still have it. Had some antibiotics from the doc for sinus infection but every time I think it is going I start to sneeze again and seem to be permanently sniffly. I can't say that at any time I have had to take to my bed or felt really bad, but it just seems to sap the strength out of me.

It must be something "going round" as they always say. Sorry to hear you guys have had the same thing but at least I know it isn't just me.

sorry to hear about you and yours ils and eternity - it actually helps a very little bit to know you are not alone in this.

And Fee For All - I am most curious - I have heard of Light Boxes but I htought they were for people who suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder? And not a cure for colds?

I did try to look but it told me this :

You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.

Do they work for colds then?? Quite honestly I am ready to sit a toad on my head and pin chillis to my nose - to get rid of it.

Our cleaner has been off from work since Christmas with flu and bronchitis. It's terrible really .... I've had to wash my own cup up for the past four weeks!

Actually I thought this was a thread about computer viruses ... cos my pc has been doing all sorts of weird things lately ... and it's a lot more expensive than me to fix if it goes wrong!

I hope you are feeling tickety-boo soon Flip.

I am very much looking forward to your lager commercial!

I had a cold on and off from Christmas eve till a couple of weeks ago.

On Friday Mrs SF went down with flu, and I've woken up today with a scratchy sore throat. I have a feeling it's back again, and I'm fed up with it!

I do have SAD and my light box has turned my life around - before that I used to lose the plot totally from mid November to end of Feb.

Symptoms I get are:

Tired all day, but unable to sleep at night - I could quite happily (and sometimes do) write off a weekend and do absolutely nothing.

Weepiness and forgetfulness, and unable to take any stress or hassle.

Catching very bloody thing doing the rounds - colds, flu, tummy bugs, a memorable bout of chicken pox:glare:. You name it I have caught it.

However, I finally bought a light box last year, as was a bit fed up with the usual nhs answer of anti-depressants. It has made such a difference - still get the symptoms but to a much lesser degree and especially this year, feel as if I am functioning much better.

See what you mean about the link oops - www.electronichealing.co.uk (http://www.electronichealing.co.uk) is the site. I also got an ioniser which is fab too as I smoke (cigarettes that is, not me personally ...

Hope this helps...

I have had 'the flu' this twice this winter and it really knocks you for six, I have almost written off 2 months of this winter, where I was unable to do even the most simplist of things, luckily my boys looked after me and kept everything going!

oooo Fee for All they are all the symptoms I have had since November, but with a near on constant cold/cough/sore throat. Especially the sleeping one, oh and the lethargy. But can you have SAD if you love the winter?? Which I do, I love cosy fires, and warm broths and I just adore snow.

I know what you mean about the flu ils - although this time I haven't had the flu - I did 2 years ago and it is not an experience I ever wish to go through again - it is evil.

I have had a look at the light boxes and they are not cheap are they?? Did you ave to be diagnosed with SAD or did you just realise it yourself and self treat?

[oh and slightly off topic] whilst looking for the light boxes I came across a first aid pen light - that cost 99 pounds and it a quantum vibrational healing tool - that accelerates the healing of wounds!! Amazing!!

I've only had one heavy cold thus far this winter season and I hit that on the head by simply letting it take its course (I'm a firm believer in taking as few drugs as possible....this helps increase my bodies natural immune system against the really nasty stuff).

I know several people who have been wiped out by various bugs n stuff and like you Flip they have found that since the first bout of whatever it has led to numerous other irritating ailments. They have alll been told it's viral and that's that. Personally I think that the doctors simply don't know what it is half the time and don't have the time to really find out and so just use their magic get out clause...'It's a virus!'

 to all who are ill......

..........try hot toddies at bedtime :wink2:

I've had a cold for about 2 weeks now! Here's how it happened...

The baby I mind came on a day she was terribly poorly - Her mum shouldn't have brought her.
My baby got really sick... same symptoms
My 4 year old son got sick... same symptoms
The other little girl I look after got sick... same symptoms
Her mum got sick (had to take off 3 days of work) ... same symptoms
Her son got sick (consequently off school for a week) ... same symptoms

The fathers in the house are the only ones that remain unaffected_immune!... Me and my baby are still getting over it.
Moral of the story: Don't be such a push over and take the baby when she is clearly ill!!

Other than that... I think it is the winter season but Vitamin C definately helps. I take them every day now and twice a day when I have a cold..

I love the winter - big cuddly jumpers/fleeces; log fires and the like...and used to sulk if I didn't have at least one ski-ing trip. But, after about 10 years of losing the plot through the winter, having courses of prozac and sleeping pills and wasting annual leave by taking time off in January just to sit it out, I decided to do some googling and opted to try a light box. Got the £125 one and it is fine, plus actually looks quite good in the dining room!

Only problem is I now have a completely manic cat...who obviously doesn't suffer from SAD.

Another link is www.sada.org.uk (http://www.sada.org.uk) which has all the gen about symptoms etc.

There are some interesting products on the electronic healing site! A friend bought the teeter hang-ups thingy, but what they used it for probably belongs on another thread:w00t:

Thanks for that link Fee - most informative.

Mr F has made an appointment for me at the doctors this afternoon - I counted the days of this latest thing/virus/evil alien ant farm I have got and it arrived on the 29th January so it is 17 days of feeling disgusting - I am going to have to beg the doctor to do something - even if it is to put me down.

I fell asleep at around 11pm last night, woke at 1am and did not get back to sleep till 6.30am this morning and had to be up at 8.30pm - so I have 2 x 2 hr stints of sleep - to say I am ratty is the understatement of the year. I have warned the boys to steer well clear and be as good as golden angel cherubs and they will be safe from the venomous, poison spurting tongue of yours truely.

I will mention SAD Fee - those symptoms are just a bit too near to the mark!!!

Good luck at the doctors Flip, let us know what he said.

Mine just said there is a lot going around, you have been unlucky (not very helpful was he, I had worked that one out for myself  )

If the doc does the eye-rolling thing when you mention SAD, show him this (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/050210/80/fc7i1.html) and tell him you found it somewhat inspiring....:shocking:

LMAO - I am assuming that that link was the right one???

You know what I went to the docs, repeating in my head all the things I had to tell him [turned out it was a a she], not sleeping, lethary, colds, chesty coughs, SAD, breathing in fine wood dust [through sanding some furniture], etc etc all by rote.

And I did my ususal got in to the surgery and forgot the lot. Anyway I was diagnosed with infected bronchial passages, coupled with possible sinus infection - so I have a truck load of antibiotics and will take the very last one on time and finish the course for a change.
