Next week residents in Edinburgh will vote for or against a Congestion Charge. It has been brought about as there is a great need to reduce the amount of traffic within the City. I have read agruments both for & against the charge and to be honest, at the moment I am completely undecided as to what to vote for. I hate the fact that it is the motorist once again who has to foot the bill, but I do agree that there are a lot of people who use their cars unnecessarily ie - school run etc. We do have a fairly good transport in the form of buses, but the money raised from the Congestion Charges is to be used to hopefully fund a new tram system. There are some who say that Edinburgh is too small a City to levy such a charge.

How is the London Congestion Charge doing? Were you for or against it to begin with and do you think it has improved, and is it working?

I guess it works...if not a bit pricey and they (Red Ken) are about to increase it!!

It's cleared central London up but the boader around it is jammed.....it's just a case of redistribution although some I know who work in the heart of it say it's made a great imporovement on air, noise, commuting (they now use buses where before they used the tube)....

Change is always challenged.

I am waiting to see all the wonderful improvements in public transport that are supposed to aspire from the congestion charge in London. Hasn't happened yet, and will never happen either. It's all a load of tosh. As Slipper said it has made the inner city clearer, but it does go to the outskirts. Definitely needs another approach if you ask me. Try not to be swayed by the promise of improvements.
