floopy 03-02-2005, 07:49 PM Fibber alert
Ok ok, I was fibbing, I do know what one is!
But what I meant when I said I lied was I ticked things I don't do as well as the things I do!
I don't eat chips or icecream if I am stressed nor do I do drugs, but I do use the others I ticked to de - stress.....
floopy 03-02-2005, 07:57 PM Actually, cockney is my de-stresser - I just rant at him about whatever's stressed me and he sits patiently till I'm done before giving me the solution to the problem.
Also, he does a damn fine massage :cool2:
Ceridwen 03-02-2005, 08:38 PM Actually I find the best de-stresser is a good hard....
exercise session.
Sorry!
karenh 03-02-2005, 10:13 PM Yup - on the rare ocassion I get stressed I do all of those things to de-stress, although mostly, whilst those around me are flapping, I don't actually GET stressed.
Woodstock 03-02-2005, 10:23 PM ....I watch a couple of movies...
Andrea 04-02-2005, 12:01 AM I think my stress builds up until I need to get out, on my own with no kids or hubby and just do something for myself.
I either drink or excersice - running or gym. Usually one follows the other....go for a long run, shower, get ****ed.
Takes up most of my time destressing really.
ils you bad bad girl - I tried out your theory and ticked them all, without reading the full thread now I have botched Dol's poll up cos I have voted for everything.
And I don't do chips or Ice ream or drugs etc - I do drink though!:wink2:
Cockney 04-02-2005, 09:59 AM I like to give a massage pushing hard kneading and rubbing and stroking helps to blank my mind and then when I get in the mood I slowly build to the point where I just bang away like John Bonham at a Led Zeppelin concert
This always makes me feel better http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_12.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm22755GB)

claire 04-02-2005, 03:36 PM If the kids are awake... a lovely hot bath whilst my hubby does the kids tea and puts them to bed!
Every night whilst we watch TV- I lie down on the sofa, he sits at the end by my feet and tickles my feet and legs, very calming!
If the kids are asleep then a bit of nookie always helps take things off my mind! (Unless its him thats stressed me out of course!)
Bella 04-02-2005, 03:54 PM If the kids are awake... a lovely hot bath whilst my hubby does the kids tea and puts them to bed!
How on earth do you manage that Claire? If I run a bath when the girls are awake, they end up in beside me!!!!
Destress - dare I say open a bottle of vino? :drinking:
Destress - dare I say open a bottle of vino?
you may dare indeed....tis the only way to destress, a few beers and a good chat.....
claire 04-02-2005, 04:22 PM How on earth do you manage that Claire? If I run a bath when the girls are awake, they end up in beside me!!!!
If Im stressed when my husband comes home from work, he often insists that I light some candles and have a hot bath. Then he takes care of the kids... Its not every night, but quite frequently. If I don't close the bathroom door then I also have the kids in the bathroom and my baby sticking his whole arm in my bath completely soaking his pj's!!
Regarding the wine... yes I have to say there is something about a glass of wine that seems to take your troubles away?
If I'm stressed due to a problem then I usually can't de-s tress until the problem is solved, although I do tend to smoke more which isn't good for me but helps me cope a bit better. I hate being stressed. When I'm really stressed I forget to eat or can't eat. Now for an over weight person who loves their food you might think that is ok, and the last time I was stressed I lost 2 stone in 2 months, but it was awful I had no tits and no bum and a huge belly and my skin and hair were gross.
If I just feling a bit under pressure then a nice long soak in the bath presuming I can allow myself the time! When stressed and under presure I tend to run around a lot doing nothing.
Coastie 04-02-2005, 08:29 PM I very rarely get stressed but when I do a glass of booze always helps....
also a good stomping walk and a fave comedy movie...
The best is beating the crud out of a punch bag but I don't have access to one of those so the booze has to do for now! :boxing:
Voice of reason 08-02-2005, 12:20 PM Well I voted 'Gym session' as it's the only thing keeping me sane at the moment. I started running just before Christmas and couldn't run for longer than a minute, yesterday I ran 2.5 miles in 27 minutes, which I was dead chuffed about, and it's very good for clearing the mind.
Things are a bit stressy for us at the moment. Sam's health is once again a concern and it seems likely that he will have to have his NG tube back down next week (for those who don't know, my 14yr old son has Crohn's disease) On top of that our residency application is taking a lot longer to process as the physicians at NZ Immigration Service in London have decided that Sam's medical and application notes need to be sent to NZ as they want the consultants there to give an opinion before they grant us residency, the worst carse scenario is that they could turn our application down, and we would not then be able to go. This is particularly stressful as Mr V's job in NZ starts in May, we have already accepted an offer on our house and they have found a replacement Dr for his job here! In short we are burning bridges behind us every day and as yet our future is uncertain, it also means that we will probably only know the decision 6 weeks before we need to leave, which will be a nightmare!!
I have to say that I'm not handling these combined stresses very well at the moment, and considering it's my job to help folk cope with their stress I do a pretty poor job of coping with my own!
Bonsai 08-02-2005, 01:33 PM I tend to have a drink if im stressed, which had happened a lot lately. I dont get drunk, i just have a calming vodka or gin ... usually accompanied with a fag and chill out for 10 mins.
Always does the trick for me :cool2:
