View Full Version : Films you hate/dislike/or rather not watch
tonee 08-02-2005, 07:54 PM What films have you absolutely hated?
The worst film I saw I have to admit was "Sweet November" it killed me. Absolute rubbish. Recently I hated " Wicker Park" uurgh. No need for anything more. What films have brought out the psychovomit in you?
Dolores 08-02-2005, 07:56 PM that I can think of straight away....
Garfield and The Incredibles - both totally lacking in charm or humour imo!
Ok ok I know they are kids films, but one expects a certain amount of intelligence even for a U cert.
tonee 08-02-2005, 08:19 PM You rock Dolores. Havent seen either film but I will avoid both. Thanks for the warning!
Voice of reason 08-02-2005, 08:59 PM The Piano, gawd that was a miserable film! The soundtrack was ace though (as Scooby would say)
American Beauty......dont know what the fuss was about.....
Andrea 08-02-2005, 09:48 PM The English Patient.
Just can't seem to watch it at all, and after an episode of Sienfeld where Elaine Bennes goes on about it, I just can't even contemplate watching it.

It's all really down to taste isn't it? I still remember some stunning scenes from that film. I don't normally like epic romances but I thought this film was shot very well. Mingella was the Director if I remember correctly.
I'm going to mention again "Sweet November" I saw in some magazine recently that it was some celebrity's fav film. This tells me more about that person than anything else! The English Patient is a masterpiece in comparison to this. Maybe I should just start a thread on this film and ask everyone to watch it!
Kittencat 09-02-2005, 05:03 AM 'The Sweetest Thing'.
The idea was good..a 'gross-out' comedy for chicks..but the script was terrible, the acting was dire and as for that song... :bored:
Voice of reason 09-02-2005, 10:21 AM American Beauty......dont know what the fuss was about.....
Yeah I totally agree Queeenie, I didn't 'get it' at all.
Bella 09-02-2005, 11:23 AM Agree - The Piano and American Beauty, it pleases me that I am not the only one. I have the English Patient on tape and just never got round to watching it, also bought the book but haven't read it yet either.
Remains of the Day was other one, Anthony Hopkins played the butler who was in love Emma Thompson, she was like the Head Cleaner or something but he couldn't bring himself to tell her, it was so slow and boring, but I think they both won Oscars for it!!! WTF, I fell asleep at cinema watching this. Recently got Ladykillers out, utter pants!
Didn't like the recent Shark Tale and absolutely hated Lilo & Stitch.
Recently got Ladykillers out, utter pants!
That was CACK wasnt it Bella........it made that much of an impact that I had forgotten all about it.......
I havent even bothered with The English Patient......it just doesnt appeal!
I thought Freddie v Jason was utter tripe too.......sooooo predictable and SO not scarey!!!

I have never seen a Freddie film, and the Jason ones were just as you say sooooo predictable! To be honest I don't really do horror/scary/load of teenagers together getting killed off one by one because they are SO PREDICTABLELY BORING!
I think I will be everyones worst friend after this revelation but I cannot stand any of the following:
The Star Wars Trilogy
Alien series
Rocky series
Rambo series
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Anything with Jean Claude Van Damme in
Anything with Arnie in
Anything with Sly Stallone in
Anything with Clint Eastwood in
And I think that is it.:ninja: Don't shoot!!

Star Wars Trilogy - Flip how can you not like the battle of the Universe, that is blasphomeny!!! As is Lord of the Rings!! I do, however agree with you on the rest, although I have never seen an Alien, Rocky or Rambo film.............and really don't ever intend to, am I missing anything?!!
Pulp Fiction and the like for me I', afraid.....can't stand films like that....maybe I just don't get them.

Add me to that list. I thought it was awful.
Another movie I thought was horrible was The Village...sure would have liked my money back after going to see that one.
Whit are ye's on about? American Beauty is a great movie.
A few movies that disappointed me were:
- Identity
- Wonder Boys
- Stargate
- LA Confidential
- Troy
- Jurassic Park III
- Star Wars movies
Coastie 10-02-2005, 08:57 AM The remake of 'Assault on Precinct 13' should be avoided at all costs.....even the talents of Laurence Fishbourne and Gabriel Byrne couldn't save it!
With Flip on the Bored of the Rings.....not my thing at all although I can admire the acheivement of Mr Jackson the genre just isn't my cup of tea! :bag:
Anything with Jim Carey, Adam Sandler, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller and Leonardo Di Caprio should be destroyed! :pooh:
***********************************************
American Beauty is a brilliant film IMHO opinion but each to their own.
Flip - I Love Clint Easwood....I grew up on his movies (my Dad is a fan) and I guess alot of my love for him comes from a sentimental base....

Owen Wilson? Owen Wilson?????
He's just about the most charming, sexy, funny, kooky actor around.
Not buying it? Oh well..
Coastie 10-02-2005, 11:33 AM KC - I have no objection to you have such lustations....I just personally want to punch the screen every time he appears on it :boxing: and to add insult to injury he shares my Birthday!

He shares it? Well, that's not on, couldn't he have picked another day and let you have yours?
Some people...
Coastie 10-02-2005, 11:42 AM I think he should have the decency to move over a day! :glare:
Voice of reason 10-02-2005, 11:52 AM To be honest any big budget, action packed, special effects laden adventure movie leaves me cold. I much prefer British films (and I mean financed as well as produced, not your 'Notting Hill' rubbish!) that cost very little to make and preferably have a full British cast (and preferably star Pete Pothelswaite and or Brenda Blethen!) I love 'Brassed Off' and 'An awfully big adventure' 'Secrets and lies' that sort of thing, whereas anything with Arnie and an AK47 is a no no :)
Coastie 10-02-2005, 12:00 PM Voice: And yet you don't like the superbly acted, written and directed movie that is 'American Beauty'
Have I mentioned that unless you like the tats anything with Vin Diesel should be avoided! :boxing:

Lol Yeah I figured to avoid those Coastie :) Nah, 'American Beauty' was too...well ...American for me!

I like similar types of filsm Voicey - to me Black Ball was one of the funniest Brit Flicks I have seen for AGES.........its up there with East is East, Brassed Off, Bend it Like Beckham, Saving Grace etc...........
I am partial to a good Sci Fi movie though - Men in Black and Independance Day are 2 of my FAVE movies - hmmmmm certainly helps that the gorge Will Smith stars in them though.....and.......I wouldnt say no to Vin Diesel either......hes one sexy mutha :naughty: :w00t:
Crystal Lights 19-02-2005, 03:34 PM 'The Sweetest Thing'.
The idea was good..a 'gross-out' comedy for chicks..but the script was terrible, the acting was dire and as for that song... :bored:
OMG for anyone who hasn't seen this movie....lucky you!!
all my friends told me to go rent this, best girlie flick ever etc.
Well myself and my two friends sat down and watched and were just like WTF???
It was just so lame...no storyline whatsoever and as for the comedy...talk about trying way way too hard....i never thought i would find cameron diaz even more annoying then i did already....but after that movie...she reached a whole new low!!
I cant really think of any other films I absolutely hated .... but i dunno if many people here have seen Mystic River but i thought that it was just okay...didn't get all the hype...another film i hate i Titanic ..talk about OTT all the way...
Oh and i just cant watch stupid girlie flicks like charlies angels - they make me wanna puke.....hmm there is a few i hate!!
Woodstock 20-02-2005, 01:40 AM The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre makes me feel very uncomfortable. Some really horrifying imagery in that film.
And movies such as/similar to Waterworld p**s me off ever so slightly
If there is one movie I'm slightly reluctant in watching on my lonesome, then it would have to be The Exorcist, and the Evil Dead (both I & II) has a similar stranglehold on my deepest, darkest fears.
Also, Poltergeist is another, but perhaps not necessarily due to the content of the movie, but maybe more to do with the strange events that have ensued, since the film's release concerning it's cast members. Some pretty scary things going on there I feel.
There is also a particular "very brief" segment of Three Men, And a Baby, where apparently the ghost of a young boy can be seen in the background. Those involved with the film later made reassurances to viewing audiences that the apparition was nothing more than a cardboard figure, that happened to look lifelike, though judge for yourself.........(one would, I suppose, have to believe them, on account of them having nothing to lose by actually having the strange appearance of a ghostly figure on the film - therefore, it leads me to thinking that it may not have been a very bright idea to have denied it in the first place.......) - I hate it when situations are reduced to double-negatives.......
Hellraiser, and the sequels are also quite scary in parts, and sometimes best viewed with a teddy bear - failing that, a partner will suffice......
And finally, a certain scene from Star Wars that doesn't exactly make me feel uncomfortable (as I could watch it a quadrillion-zillion times and still never grow weary), but I'm sure it does George Lucas and his Production Staff, is where the poor old Stormtrooper inadvertently almost knocks himself backwards from the impact of banging his head on the top of the entrance, while making his way, with several other troopers to sort out Chewbacca & Co. somewhere inside the Death Star.
tonee 20-02-2005, 03:42 AM The oldies ie Bette Davis movies I love, Orson Welles and many more
Pandora 12-03-2005, 11:29 PM This thread is films you hate/dislike/or rather not watch is it not? In that case, Id like to say - Westerns. I hate them with a bloody vengeance.

That's a shame because 2 films "The Searchers" and "Open Range" are very good westerns. But again I am straying from this thread.......
