View Full Version : If you only see one film see this one!
Coastie 12-02-2005, 08:41 PM Okay.....I only have time to see one film before I leave Earth and return to my planet......what should I see?
Other than the obvious: 'The Usual Suspects'

Dazed and Confused. If you don't like the film you can always love the soundtrack - and vice versa....
tonee 12-02-2005, 10:08 PM The Sound of Music - how many eras can you cover with this film?
Either 'Chinatown' (very boring throughout, but a fabulous ending!)
or
Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind
tonee 16-02-2005, 06:29 AM Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind
I have to say I hated this film even though I wanted to like it. The other film, "Adaptation" I thought was fab.
Coastie 19-02-2005, 09:09 AM Mars - Totally agree with 'Chinatown' - I have a copy of the script as I think it's so cool!
Eternal Sunshine IMHO was absolute twaddle and wasted on me...I hate Jim Carey anyway but this was soooooo boring I struggled to keep my eyes open... :shocking:
Adaptation was good though!
Love the 'Sound of Music' - in fact I am going to Sing along a Sound of Music in May!
Woodsy...have had a read of the sleve of Dazed and Confused....just might give ot a go! :naughty:
Crystal Lights 19-02-2005, 03:28 PM Mars! - I loved Eternal Sunshine, i thought it was absolutely stunning wiht amazing performances from Jim and Kate
Tonee! - i loved Adaptation too even more than ESOTSM i think, i just thought it was such a beautiful movie.
My one for you Coastie would be American Beauty....its my absolute fave movie, funny, sad, dark, hopeful and fulfilling all in one...a truly memorable movie

I have been to one of those, it was absolutely brilliant! My only regret was that I didn't dress up, there were some fantastic outfits when I was there. People dressed up as hills, plenty of curtain dresses, the bowing lady, one guy was dressed up as Spiderman as one the children, (think it was Kurt) went on to play him. You will love it!! :)
Another musical I adore is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I must get this on DVD as I had it on tape along with another favourite The King and I but little Miss Abbie got her wee grubby hands on it and yanked the whole tape out of it's reel!

I came out of the cinema and wanted to be sick and felt dizzy. It was an interesting idea, but not watchable.

Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind. It changes very quickly and uses funny light effects. It did push the boundaries of film but was not a pleasant or enjoyable experience

Yay, at least someone agrees with me! :kid:
Coastie, I started off viewing Chinatown and really did start to get annoyed with it, as there didn't seem to be anything worth watching. However, as all the clues came together and you started finding more and more stuff out, it really came together as an amazing film, really really clever!

Oooh Becks noooo, i thought it wa a beautiful movie and not hard to watch at all...but i do see where your coming from in that its a jumpy style of filming...
OUt of interest have you seen Pulp Fiction/Memento, cause I love both of those films but the like ESOTSM, they are hard to follow, particularily Memento
anyone here seen Memento??? i loved it but did find it hard to follow and had to watch it a few times to fully appreicate it...
Coastie 21-02-2005, 06:50 PM Memento is excellent....but a film you have to sit and really watch....nip and make a cuppa without pausing and whoosh you've lost the plot!
Pulp Fiction has grown on me.....the first time I saw it I wasn't that keen but gradually I have come to love it! :cool2:
But Eternal Sunshine IMHO is :pooh:

Well that's how I mean it anyway!
Fee For All 27-02-2005, 11:12 PM IMnotsoHO, The Big Chill is one of the best ever films. Fantastic soundtrack and a great ensemble cast including Kevin Kline, William Hurt, Tom Berenger before he went orf, and Jeff Golblum. Oh and some women as well.
It also has Kevin Costner's most convincing performance - playing a corpse:laugh:
