go with replused! I think it's the only option.

good acting from the pair of them though. the girl who plays leanne really is rather good isn't she? I often (ok I've just thought of it!) wonder what happened to the other sister after she left. i thought she was an excellent actress but you never she her in anything do you? Anyone know? Anyone care?

She was in a programme called 'Blackpool' not long a go.

I have always thought that Jane Danson was a great actress and I am loving the story line between her and Bradley Walsh. But then again I love Corrie, I think each and every character has a part to play, love em or hate em. I think that is what makes Corrie so great (for me anyway) the diversity of the characters!

I haven't heard of the actress that play Toyah (the sister) either Dol but I thought she also was a good little actress and I hope we see her in something soon.

Ewww! I so wouldn't - lol.

No one in Corrie that does it for me really (although I rather like Steve McDonald who reminds me a bit of Robson Green sometimes although he's losing his hair at an alarming rate and really shouldn't do the comb-overs)

I do love Corrie though, however much I get frustrated with some of the story lines I couldn't not watch it. They're all like old friends really.

I dont know what it is about - i would ususally NEVER go for someone who looks like him...but he does have something thought doesn't he!

i am really liking the storylines at the mo - i love the leanne storyline and yea she a great actress.

it tool me a while to get inot the book club thing with ian mckellen but i thought they finished it off well.

I cant wait to see charlie get his come uppance but i'm hoping it'll happens sooner rather than later as these things tend to get a bit dragged out....

Totally agree about the unbelievable storyline with Mel Hutchwright. Would canny and feisty northern women such as Rita, Blanche, Betty and even Emily really be such saps and let the old toad walk away with their hard earned cash - er I dont think so. Hats off to Ian Maclennan though. As for Liz who really cares who this old trout is going to be shagging next, did you see her neck in yesterday's eppi, all scraggy with the skin hanging - yuk! She always reminds me of someone who works on the fairground. More unbelievable storylines coming up of how rough looking middle aged women seem to cast a spell over the menfolk - IF ONLY!!!!

As I said before (somewhere) the original format, all those years ago, had the 3 batty old women, Ena Sharples, Minnie Caldwell and Martha Longhurst who were always in "the snug" putting the world to rights or poking their noses in.

These now being gone, we have Blanche, Emily and Rita stepping into the same role, with Norris added in as honorary old woman.

I think Liz is now the Elsie Tanner character, tart with a heart?

Vera and Jack have taken over from Hilda and (ooh what was her hubby's name - was it Charlie?).

Blimey, I am feeling my age thinking back to when the "oldies" were the "youngies" :wink2:

Critique
28-05-2005, 04:27 PM
The twist here is that no, for a change he didn't hit her, she did walk into a door. Obviously, though, everyone will think he did, adding more fuel to Shelley's mistaken belief that everyone is against him and that it isn't deserved :(

I'm not sure whether we're supposed to feel sorry for Shelley, but I just think she's a pathetic tart.

Dev's reaction when Sunita told him she was pregnant was pure comedy. That man CANNOT act!

I'm still not sure how I feel about the Danny/Leeane story, although, it has to be said, there is far more chemistry between them, than between Jamie and Leeane.

Oh, and one other thing, Mike Baldwin's son is a tosser.

I dont feel sorry for Shelly one bit. For someone who can start a relationship with a man who slept with your own mother deserves everything she gets! I dont like the character of Shelly the way she throws her weight around in the Rovers and treats customers and staff, she never seems to do any work just order everyone else around. Whats all this with hiding in her room, surely she would have had to produce a sick cert to have got paid - its outrageous the way the pair have treated Fred, I say its outrageous.

I think poor old Corrie has sunk as low as it can get at the moment. Needs a good strong storyline to bring it back up.

Shelley did catch Charlie asking the barmaid to run off with him though. Bet the dopey cow will accuse her of leading him on though :wallbash: Will she never learn?

Isis
05-07-2005, 06:34 PM
Ok here goes..................

although I want to shake Shelley really hard back into reality, I can see why she is being like she is - she is a victim of domestic violence, and when you are in a situation like this, you have no self respect, no self esteem and no confidence, because the b@st@rd that you are involved with has stripped it all away.......

even when all of your friends around you are telling you to "wake up and smell the coffee" you dont have the confidence to do anything about it, so you will distance yourself from those who care, or, in your eyes the ones who are critisising - which is what the GIT has set out to do in the 1st place......my sister has been in this situation and so has one of my friends, but you have to wait for them to find out the hard way and be there to pick up the pieces when they finally see sense - which I am pleased to say my sis and friend did eventually do!

HAVING said all that....................I CANT BEAR TO WATCH IT - she is irritating the bejeebers out of me :w00t:

Aondeag
06-07-2005, 08:39 AM
That's very true..about domestic violence and the effect it has on your sanity. Bullying has a lot to answer for.

But shelly was so silly even before she was being bullied.
Her dopey expressions and undying love was a feature of hers around the time of Peter too.
I know she's only a tv charachter, but really...she is too soppy and weak for words!
Grrrrr. I just want to shake some sense into her!

All I can say is what on earth did the extremely rude model booker see in Wayne? He looks all of 14 years old, bit unsavoury if you ask me. Anyone recognise her as the actress that played the incestuous sister in Brookside? Then they had a smooch...and charlie got up to go to the loo...(talk about ruining the moment!)He came back just in time to see violet about to flee out the door..as fast as her legs could carry her.She said..'I'm sorry...please don't tell jason'...
Charlie made some comment about 'you are as bad as that slapper upstairs'...
and he looked vicious and unimpressed.
And that's how it ended.Charlie being all mad..and violet being all guilty.

this is a bizzare programme!

They just don't know what to do next do they? They've run out of storylines and, as you say, it's just getting so bizzare. The Shelley/Charlie thing has dragged on too long til you don't give a hoot and think they deserve each other. The Tracy/Steve/Amy thing has gone too far. Emily would have poisoned Norris's tea by now or at least sent him packing. Likewise with Ken, Dreary and Blanche. Jack and Vera - who cares?

I give them a few points for bringing in the deaf woman and addressing the fact that deaf people do exist - but I take them back if it's just a "ratings" ploy. (Watch out for Eastenders to bring in a blind actor :( )

Oooh and what about Gail flirting with the Reflexologist - yuk! I could hardly bear to watch her facial contortions. I know that sounds contradictory in that not everyone is beautiful etc. but Gail really shouldn't do "girly" lol.

The saddle thing :w00t: Why is it that Liz McDonald looks like a tart, dresses like a tart and is then surprised when she's treated like a tart :glare:

It's totally gone off the rails but I'll still be watching and wondering why I bother :ninja:

And are vests the only item of clothing in Charlie's wardrope? :bored:

He played Finchy in The Office. Yes I noticed Charlie's swollen eye, then in the next scene it had dissapeared and I thought I had imagined it and in the next scene it had appeared again!!!

I wish it was Jamie's hair that had got shaved off. He looks like a girl with poncy curls!

And I wish they would give Lee-anne a gritty story-line, she is a talented actress but her character is boring! I do hope that she doesn't end up pregnant with Danny's baby - that would be boring!

She is a good actress, but is it just me who thinks she looks a LOT older than the character she is playing. The amount of slap she wears, and the way her hair is done (although i have heard the hair is a wig). What she wears screams BET LYNCH too. I mean, why does she look like a tart. I thought she was supposed to be just young and trendy, not hooker(ish).

I think Lee-Anne has always been portrayed as a bit of a slapper. She certainly acts like one - hopping into bed with boyfriend's dad (hmmmm.. now where have I seen that storyline before - lol)

Janice's hair - what is that all about? It's looked horrendous for ages now but that was a bit drastic. Why would they do a storyline like that - it's going to be difficult for the continuity people, trying to keep the "growing out" bits realistic because, (as with Charlie's black eye appearing and disappearing) we know they don't record the episodes in sequence!

Maybe it's an excuse for Janice to have a nice(r) wig?

And where is the Charlie/Shelley thing going? Are they going to get married? If it all goes wrong again (after the Peter thing) they'll definitely be taking her away in a straight jacket!

Les and Cilla - Grrrrrr! Can't bear to watch them.

Deirdre in her big specs again - lol.

Steve's permanent "angst".

Liz still doing "the tart with a heart" thing.

I think the only people in Corrie I actually enjoy watching now are Eileen and Sean (mincemeat).

OMG - I think only the really classically beautiful can carry off the "bald" look, like Sinead O'Connor and even she looks better with hair - lol.

As you say, Janice, with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp, needs all the help she can get - lol

I just don't see the point really. It was a drastic thing to do and I don't think there's much "mileage" in it story-wise. We shall have to wait and see how they string it out.

Is Leanne wearing a wig also? I thought that scraped back at the front long hair was very old fashioned and thought someone like Leanne would be sporting a more fashionable style. When is Candice going, she is become one of the most irritating characters ever, thick, selfish, shallow and downright unpleasant and those llama like teeth.

Is Leanne wearing a wig also?

Aparently so. She was at a 'doo' the other week, and her hair looked lovely. Very soft and fine. She mentioned then that the hair she has on the show is a wig as her natural hair got back combed / bleached within an inch of its life and started to fall out - so they got her a fake 'doo'.

Corrie axe falls on Janice and Sunita
4.11PM, Tue Sep 20 2005
Coronation Street loudmouth Janice Battersby and pregnant Sunita Alahan are to leave the soap.

The characters - played by Vicky Entwistle and Shobna Gulat - will leave with factory girl Jessie, played by Nailah Cumberbatch.

The top soap's plot-line writers have yet to decide how the characters will leave the Street, but it is believed Sunita and Janice will not be killed off and the door will be left open for them to return.

Producer Tony Wood said: "Shobna and Vicky are superb actresses who have proved extremely popular during their time on the show.

"However, it is the nature of soap that characters come and go and the writing team and I felt that these characters had run their course for the time being.

"Jessie's sister Joanne will also be staying on the street so we may well see Nailah again in the future. She is a talented young actress and I wish her all the best."

All three axed stars will leave the show next year.

As for Liz Dawn (Vera), my heart goes out to her, that is the next worse to Lung Cancer, and in many cases terminal. The outlook for her is bleak, and I will be surprised if we see her on screen again.

I was informed months ago that Janice had a shaved head back then, she has been in a wig for ages now, and from what I heard was finding it a pain and uncomfortable, so Corrie gave her this storyline so she could go natural. I don't think they were too happy about it all though, and could be one of the reasons she is out soon!

I suppose they have been in Corrie from (more or less) the start, and to get rid of them would cause an outcry amongst some.

I do think they need to keep a cross section of ages in the soap to keep people of all ages watching .... but the older members need to be given better storylines.

Btw, anyone, if you were in Frankie's shoes, would you tell Jamie? I think the ultimatum was the right thing to do but then that woud break Jamie's heart too. Though I supose he'd get over that, whereas a rift with his dad might never heal.

Quite frankly, if I was in that situation I would prefer to know.Knowing all the facts would affect my decision.I'd rather know that continue to blindly love someone.
I thought the ultimatum that Frankie gave Leanne was just genius and I can't wait to see how this story unfolds.

No I wouldnt. Although i might feel bitter and hurt, i wouldnt want to cause a massive rift between father and son. I would try and deal with it the way Frankie has - by getting Leane to dump Jamie. It would be hard on Jamie, and he would be devastated, but he would over time get over it - and he would have both his mum (s) and dad to chat with.

Well I am glad someone is going to tell Jamie about Leanne and his Dad, and I am glad it is his dipso mother - another reason to dislike her!

Talking of street secrets is Mike ever going to tell Danny that Danny is his son?

And both Leanne and Frankie have played this storyline superbly, their acting has had me on the edge of my seat.

Who thinks the storyline with Steve and Ronnie looks to be a good one? I do, I just think Steve McDonal plays a blinder of a part, and last night with Claire's input that whole taxi office scene was riddled with humour.

I actually think Claire [the actress and not the character] has superb comic timing and a face made for comedy.

Most of the time Corrie does pull in brilliant actors, and seems to match them to the right character to play too, it's why it has been the best and longest soap ever. The ones who fail to make the grade, or don't 'fit' are soon booted, the programme is bigger than any one person.

I have always adored Steve, he is an actor that can just use his face to say something, doesn't need to talk. Magic!

I really dislike the Character of Claire - but im obviously alone.

When she was the nanny i wasnt keen, but she was OK. But now she has become middle aged almost overnight. Im glad they put her in some semi decent glasses, but why does she act like my mother ?

I like Ashley, and i think they should of brought in someone with a bit of life in her so his part in Corrie could grow too. As it is, you only seem to see Ashley in the butchers shop these days.

Very soon Mike isn't going to remember very much as he gets struck down with Alzheimer's. I am sure the Street will excel themselves with this storyline and bring it into focus.

Frankie is just brilliant and I am glad that they have givee Lee-ann a good story-line as she is fab wee actress.

I missed the 2nd episode on Monday.....can someone tell me:

Why Robyn dumped Martin? Last I saw he'd written 'marry me' on a blackboard and she seemed furious with him....but I couldn't work out why.

Why Liz and her toy boy have finished?

Critique
19-10-2005, 08:34 AM
Robyn found out that Martin had been arrested for murder (Katy's Dad) and was suspicious of what type he was. He got her round his house and explained it all but then she said she was more worried about his interest in teenage girls and went off in a bit of a huff.

Liz's toy boy brought his mum to meet her (at a pub with Bev and Deirdre). She was just like Liz, slapper type, and was all over Liz and also asking about Liz's son, Steve, so warning bells went off in Liz's head that she was angling for an introduction to Steve I think. Liz decided that enough was enough so she, aided by Bev and Deirdre, told the toy boy that she was married and it would be best if they ended it. He was upset but his mother just dragged him out of the pub.

I wish her well, I think Corrie was one of her first acting jobs. I hope Shelly takes her dreadful mother Bev with her when she goes, what is the point of that woman? Interesting to see how the actor who plays Martian Platt fares without Corrie, he was always so arrogant and considered himself a "big star". Hmmm.

As for the rest, well .....

I could cheerfully throttle Blanche and Norris - they irritate the hell out of me.
I've alternately liked and not liked Steve. Feel quite indifferent to him at the moment.
Hayley's OK, Roy's a drip, Fred is so ugly, hate Danny, Frankie's OK, Mike and his grandson wouldn't be missed by me.
Ken and Dierdre bearable (just)
I think the youngest Webster girl is a good little actress.
Dev and Sunita, boring now.

Fizz and Kirky tolerable (just)
Ashley and Clerrrrrr, boring

The black "twins" - waste of space
Rita and Emily just part of the furniture

Oh but I quite like Audrey
Sarah-loooo and Scooter, boring
