View Full Version : Dave Allen - dead Dolores 11-03-2005, 12:19 PM Just heard on the news that Irish Comedian Dave Allen has died. What a shame. ils 11-03-2005, 12:34 PM He wasn't that old either, 68 I think.... RIP Dolores 11-03-2005, 02:40 PM He was old style, didn't get too much tv coverage, so he was still very fresh and funny every time he was on. These days comedians get too much exposure and are under too much pressure to come up with something new and funny too often. Ceridwen 11-03-2005, 02:46 PM Oh no! Dave Allen was my favourite comedian of all time. As Dol says, I have vids of his shows from the 70's and they are still highly relevant and witty to the day. I loved the way he always dryly delivered his work sitting on a chair, smoking a huge cigar and drinking whisky, whilst brushing imaginary bits of fluff off his suit with his part missing finger! I will miss his work enormously. http://img90.exs.cx/img90/2365/k1ocray.gif Isis 11-03-2005, 02:51 PM I just heard it on the news, what a shame! He was a very funny man, there arent many about now like him are there..... Ceri, what you posted was exactly what my mental picture was when I heard it on the news......... Dolores 11-03-2005, 02:54 PM My mum always fancied him!...and in a way he was very sexy too, maybe it's just cos he was funny, and funny is usually quite sexy. :naughty: Ceridwen 11-03-2005, 03:00 PM Yes, there was something strangely attractive about him, despite the white/grey hair...you know what they say, Just because there's snow on the roof doesn't mean there's not a fire burning in the grate! Voice of reason 11-03-2005, 03:56 PM Yeah he was great, I remember my Dad used to let me sit and watch it with him. Flip 11-03-2005, 04:03 PM I loved the way he always dryly delivered his work sitting on a chair, smoking a huge cigar and drinking whisky, whilst brushing imaginary bits of fluff off his suit with his part missing finger! That is how I will always remember him and his absolute utter irreverence against the Catholic Church!! I loved him as a child, and Dol I fancied him too!! maxine 11-03-2005, 06:04 PM and Dol I fancied him too!! Me too! I used to love him when I was young. Not sure how his humour would be seen today. Flip 11-03-2005, 06:07 PM I used to love him when I was young. Not sure how his humour would be seen today. Bloody hilarious I would hope - what is the bet that they show some old shows on cable?? And you know what we will all laugh and be shocked at the same time - he was so well ahead of his time!!! Ceridwen 11-03-2005, 06:29 PM When I watch his vids now I still laugh. For some reason they don't date at all. Cat 11-03-2005, 07:03 PM My mum and dad used to roar at him (being catholics). I too remember him sat on the stool with his tumbler, cigar and half finger with fondness. Also Ross Benson the reporter died yesteday aged 57...I liked him too. Funny he and Lynda Le Potter should go within months of each other. Sorry I digress, but havn't got the energy to start a seperate thread, so I am leeching off this one. Taffy 13-03-2005, 04:50 AM It is said that timing is the secret of good comedy, we heard of is death on red nose day. Dave Allan the comedian’s comedian Woodstock 13-03-2005, 09:07 AM funny, funny guy - i enjoyed his anecdotes. (Not seen much of him in ages though...) Woodstock 14-03-2005, 07:39 AM I too remember him sat on the stool with his tumbler, cigar and half finger with fondness. He sat on that chair looking all relaxed minus that finger so convincingly. It was about midway through his third series until i noticed it had gone walkabouts.... But, Dave Allen, yeah, he had his own little comic sketches too, mixed in with his regular stand-up (sit-down) routine. Spike Milligan, Bob Monkhouse, now the Allen bloke - they're all dropping like flies.... (http://www.survivor-online.co.uk/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=8#) Nox 14-03-2005, 05:30 PM Dave Allen was essential viewing in the Noxy household. Contrary to popular belief I was probably a bit too young to get all the jokes, but I do remember him with fondness. It's funny, he could f and blind as much as he wanted if he were here now, but I wonder whether some of his more controversial jokes would be acceptable in this highly PC world especially where religion is concerned. "May your God go with you." Dolores 14-03-2005, 05:35 PM Spike Milligan, Bob Monkhouse, now the Allen bloke - they're all dropping like flies.... (http://www.survivor-online.co.uk/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=8#) pass me the tissues  I didn't know Bob Monkhouse was dead?! Woodstock 14-03-2005, 07:41 PM pass me the tissues  I didn't know Bob Monkhouse was dead?! .....'fraid so Dol.....I'm afraid so.... Woodstock 14-03-2005, 07:43 PM "May your God go with you." subtly brilliant....:) |
