The King of England had to appoint a new supreme commander of his army
There where three generals that could do the job
But they where all equally suited for the post and all educated to the same very high level
They had all won the same amount of battles and where all just as brave as each other
So he could not decide which one to promote to supreme commander
So he came up with a test
He made the three Generals stand facing each other
With blindfolds on
“Gentlemen When I remove the blindfolds” he said “you will see on the forehead of the two Generals in front of you a spot”.
“This spot will be black or red”.
“Now if you see a red spot I on either of the two generals in front of you I want you to put your hand in the air”.
“If you see only black spots on either of the two generals in front of you must keep your hands by your side”.
“The first of you to tell me what colour the spot on your head is
Will become the new supreme commander of the army”.
The King ordered the blindfolds removed and all three generals placed there hand in the air
After about two minutes one of them said
I have a red spot on my head your majesty and he was right
You sir shall be the new supreme commander of the army said the King
Now ….How did he do it …..How did he know he had a red spot and not a black one?
I can tell you this
He did not guess
He did have a mirror
He did not see it reflected on the armour of the others or any other thing
He worked it out using logic
So you tell me how did he do it
Here is a clue
Say two of them have black spots on there foreheads and one has a red spot
When the blindfolds where taken off
One of them would have not put his hand in the air because he would only see the black spots on the foreheads of the other two
But the other two would raise there hands because they can see his red spot on his head
The man with his hands down would know instantly that the only red spot that the other two could see logically must be on his own head and he would win
