Where are they all

What I want to know is where are all the chickens and the cows and the pigs and the sheep

See I have worked it out

There are 50 billion people in the world now not all of them eat meat I would say that if you take away the those of us that don’t eat meat because of there religion and those of us that are vegetarian think it would be fair to say that you would be left with about 20 billion people

Ok let’s start with the chickens

On average two people will eat one chicken a week now I am guessing but I would say it takes about a year for a chicken to grow to full size

So if two people are eating one a week you would have to have 52 starting from one week old and then two weeks old and so on until you get to one year so as not to run out and a new chicken to replace the one that got eaten two complete the circle

Now 20 billion divided by two = 10 billion x 52 = 520 billion chickens now that’s a lot of chickens now I know that they are small but there are 470 billion more of them than us
now when you add to that the cows and to try and keep this short I will work it out for you

60P to a C 20 billion divided by 60 = 1.2 billion lets say four years to full grown that’s 208 weeks 208 x 1.2 billion =249.6 billion cows

Sheep = 368.2

Pigs = 298.5

520.0 + 249.6 +368.2+298.5 1436.3 billion domesticated animals

So that would mean that somewhere in the world there are1436.3 billion domesticated animals

50 billion of us and 1436.3 billion of them

Where are they all

On this basis we would see herds of them everywhere look how much space a farm takes up even at 1436 animals to a farm there would still have to be a billion farms

So I think that not all of the meat that we eat is meat

I mean why is a lot of what we buy covered in breadcrumbs and shaped to look like chicken

I think it is grown in vats genetically to look and taste like meat and they are keeping it a secret from us because if we found out

We would only want to eat real meat

If that happened there would not be enough to go round and the cost of meat would be astronomical

Or we could be eating the dead how do know they burn them when they go through them doors they could be cooking them

Or rats they bread quick enough

I maybe wrong what you think

Cockney - you'd be amazed at how many chickens can be crammed into a 'growing facility'

I only buy free range now...

Even so fee we have high rise blocks of flats and there are only 50 billion of us

But people in high rises have more than 1/2 square foot to live in, and they have wall and floors between them to stop them snacking off each other when they get bored - and then crapping on each other.

Fee there are 100 square meters per person in England

That is to say if we all stood ten meters from each other we would cover the whole of England

Dived that
by the amount of animals that there would have to be in England alone

and they would only end up with two square feet

(It's only 6 weeks for a chicken to be ready for slaughter now, that affects your figures:)

That’s site is scarier than what this thread is fee

It makes you want to give up meat

Yes it dos bring it down 20b x 6 = 120 billion not 520

Great link Fee, not read it all yet (haven't got time at the moment) but it looks a very interesting read.

My initital reaction to your post was......

jaysus, Cockers has far too much time on his hands :w00t:

I havent read the link yet, I am aware of conditions of factory farming and I will only buy free range organic chicken and eggs now - its a bluddy disgrace that chickens are still reared in this barbaric way!

Nope lovey, they reach POL [point of lay] at 16 weeks, and they are more or less fully grown at this stage, of course roosters do grow a bit bigger and get spurs, but edible wise as fee says 6+ weeks for eating.

Beef cows are slaughtered under 30 months - so that will affect your figures.

And lambs are slaughtered [can't remember the exact age] but under 18 months old - cos they aint lambs after that, they become, in layman's terms, sheep, and if sluaghtered they are mutton [which I know an awful lot about!!:wink2: ]

I see thank you I will recalculate and take in to account the aerial surface of the earth and calculate the sq meter coverage of the live stock

you are welcome and I await with bated breath the results of your indepth statistical research for the good of mankind - you do know you are a loon? But a very lovable and very clever loon!! :smartie:

...but thought-provoking too!

I was thinking about this as I was driving up to London today, and I wondered whether all the additives they stuff into animals to make them fat and docile had anything to do with the current obesity concerns?

Could the effects be passed on?

Cockers I think there's a few eency weency errors in your method :D

Anyway, according to this link:

http://www.worldwatch.org/press/news/2001/05/24/

there are 14.7 billion fowl (chickens, ducks, etc) in the world (or at least there were in 2001.) However the scariest statistic in the report is that in the USA livestock produce 130 times more manure than humans. So if there's 6 billion people in the world, and umpteen billion animals and birds, that's one helluva lot of **** to get rid of! :D

Yes sorry mik left the decimal point out of a lot of it

So it’s 6.0 billion not 5.0 billion people and its 14.7 and not what did I say 12.73 was it so more than I calculated

But it is a thought provoking subject

I think that in the near future there will have to be some kind of substitute food souse

So many people and so many animals the whole logistics of it all are amazing there has to be a point where we run out of land

One day, when I'm feeling brave, I'll introduce you to his theories on where Hitler went wrong - world domination in a good way, it's fascinating
