View Full Version : What The Butler Saw
Minklemar 12-11-2004, 01:48 PM Unfortunatley I missed the first half hour of this new series and I was trying out my new whirlpool bath - which was lovely....
Anyway - having missed the first pary of the programmed it seems that I missed some of the ructions and bad behaviour that the staff kept referring to.
I thought Moira should have been dis-inherited instead of Terry, at least he was trying - all she could do was moan and groan about EVERYTHING.
The 'lady' of the house seems rather strange.......she seemed permanently drunk to me!
karenh 18-11-2004, 12:14 PM WHAT! This programme has started already....!!!
Its had a fair bit of pre-airing hype, and I thought it sounded quite good, but I didn't think it started until next week.
What night's it on Minks?

No offence Minks, but when I first read this line (above), I immediately thought of Les and Cilla off Coronation Street.
But I'm certain that you're far more classy than them during your bathtime frolics.

Well.....I haven't had pizza in the bath yet!!
The second episode was on last night (Thursday), what an odd family they are! DId you manage to see it Karen?
karenh 19-11-2004, 02:08 PM ****** - no I still haven't seen it!
So, it's on thursday nights then? I must make a note to watch it next week.
Ohhh we have been glued to this - what a strange shower they are!
Moira is a moaning old witch, Sylvie and Terry dont seem to be able to have a drink without getting obnoxious.......complusive viewing, especially when they show you the staff below stairs discussing them!
Welcome back Queenie and I hope your PC problems are behind you.
I watched this for the first time this week so don't really know what the set up is.
What a horrible bunch of individuals. On first impressions I don't have any sympathy for any of them and would rather the 50k went to one of the downstairs staff. Perhaps there'll be a twist at the end. That's a point, what are the staff getting out of it? They're toiling away all day, but for what?
awww thanks Nox its good to be back!!! ive missed you guys!
i agree with you about none of them deserving the 50k at the moment - i dont know how the staff keep their cool with the despots, just goes to show how professional they are, they certainly appear to have more breeding than their "masters" dont they!!!!
Shark_Attacks 20-11-2004, 07:26 PM Have been glued to the screen as well. Agree with the fact that the family is completely dysfunctional but I suppose it would be rather boring with a bunch of plainies. I love Moira although she is a total pain in the **** lol! Sometimes I wonder if she is being serious or just taking the complete ****. I really went off the Lady of the house who got disinherited - she is just so unpredictable. Wasn't impressed with how she spoke to the Lord last week, making him out like he was completely dumb and that she had helped him in some way with his social skills. Excuse me? She is so nasty to her partner and Im fed up of hearing her longing for more action in the bedroom. Sometimes I really feel sorry for her though. Her sister isn't much better and seems very bitter. At the moment I would like her daughter to win it as she clearly wants to improve her life as she feels uncomfortable with where she is now.
Islandman 21-11-2004, 04:00 PM After a bit of searching, I found a place to get these episodes...I really like this show. I think they picked quite an interesting family. I can't believe the way some of them act. I find Sylvie the most interesting to try to figure out. She's one of those people who seem to have been born into the wrong life...and her relationship with the Lord is very strange. I was shocked by her blatant statements about not wanting to be with him and him not giving her any action. lol
Moira is another screwed up one...but I can't help but like her for some reason. Must be the same reason as the staff are keeping her around. She is rather whiny, but I think she really does lack in self-confidence. I liked when the one staff lady tried to help her out and bring her attitudes up.
Anyways, great show so far...
karenh 21-11-2004, 04:03 PM Arrgghhhh - Now I'm really peeved I missed it! Can someone send me a PM next Thursday to remind me that it on? Pretty please
BTW - hiya Queeenie! Welcome back! I tried to drop you a PM to say hi yesterday, but it didn't let me. So, I'll just do it here! :)
Minklemar 23-11-2004, 01:28 PM Moira reminds me a bit of one of a Branda Blethen character.
I wonder what it'll be like this week now that she's Mistress of the house.
Wasn't Sylvie awful to her husband and daughter - then she was put out that her daughter hadn't apologised to her!
Then, after treating her husband like crap she bit £700 on an auction (I think it was a pair of diamond earings) and expected Seamus to put it on his credit card!
I'm glad she was disinherited.

Ohhhh I know what you mean Minks, the one where she played the drippy wife to Simon Callow as Tom Chance......I used to love that!
Hiya Karen......its good to be back, although I dont know how long it will last, i dont seem to get a minute to get on here lately - and its only cos the footy :sleepy: is on im on now
bustywench 25-11-2004, 05:15 PM I caught the first episode of this- it was strangely compelling.
I think the classic moment was when Moira arrived at the stunning £40 million mansion for the first time. "I thought it would be, like, more George-gee-an," she sniffed.
The house itself is absolutely beautiful, the servants seem like a lovely bunch of reasonable people, but the lunatics are definitely running the asylum. The programme's producers have really outdone themselves in finding perhaps the most vulgar and nightmarish band of cringesome tossers in Britain.
What a family.
I havent laughed so much for ages - last night when Moira and Trish were singing the miaow song.......i had tears rolling down my face!
i must say that moaning Moira is making a far better "lady" than the dreadful Sylvie, but then saying that, if I was stuck with Shamus i think i would have to have a few to "numb the pain"
Islandman 24-12-2004, 04:31 PM I'm a tad behind on this show..still need to watch episode 5 and 6...but I just had an observation that shocked me:
Why the hell is the pregnant woman smoking and drinking? When I saw her smoking, and it being shown on the show as if it was nothing, I was just shocked. What is she thinking?!? She's going to destroy the babies life before it is even born...
HELP!
Can anyone tell me how this ended - I missed the last 2 episodes I think, it clashed with something, IACGMOOH if I recall correctly........I just wanted to know who won!
Also - since wathing this, I have been amazed at the amount of TV series and movies that use the house for filming in....there were several programmes we watched over Xmas and New Year where it featured - it was the blue and green tiles that gave it away........
Minklemar 19-01-2005, 03:48 PM The final three were Terry (who was reinherited), the pregnant one and Tiffany the teenager. Tiffany won

Thanks Minks!!!! I am so peeved I missed it - we got well into it! Im pleased that Tiffany won, as opposed to her dreadful cousin Simba or whatever her silly name was! And Terry did try so hard once he was disinherited didnt he! The preggers one, I couldnt really comment - she was always in the background, so praps thats why she did so well!
Minklemar 19-01-2005, 04:36 PM The preggers one was in it more in the last couple of episodes (had to be really as she was in the last 3!). I wanted her to win rather than the others.
I know what you mean about Simbad - she was awful wasn't she, so full of herself!
I was put off Tiffany when she threw up in the wastepaper basket and left it for the maids to clear up! But she did come out of her shell a lot and she was really good when they went to the shelter for the homeless. But I still didn't want her to win because she was sure to share it with that awful mother of hers!
