Tonight I lost a great and precious friend, my lovely Silver.

Heart attack most probably the vet said. He is to be privately cremated tomorrow.
I am at a loss, he shared so much with me, and overcame so much himself, but heading towards 30 I guess he had a long and loved life.
I remember buying him from Beverley horse sales for £50, I wouldnt have sold him for untold gold.

I loved that horse to bits, he was my Pegasus, I really cannot imagine life without him, every time I looked at him I saw beauty and a great bond that I can't explain, he was one in a million.

We first met many years ago, he was a grade B showjumper called 'Carry On', I was a kid at a riding school who admired him and wished he was mine. He ended up at a riding school and then was put up for auction as he was an awkward ******. My dad gave me the money to buy him (to the absolute horror of my mum) and the rest is history. We had nowhere then to keep a horse but the auctions were a place where horses could be bought by the meat men and Silver was not exactly a good lad!

Bless him, he was always an angel for me, we had a special bond, something that is rare and precious.

Funny isnt it, I cant speak to anyone but can post here, too much beer, celebrating his life and mourning his loss, I should get to bed.

Marmy, your words were beautiful, and you obviously loved him very much. Silver was a lucky lucky boy to have been saved from the meat market by you - and im sure he knew what a privaledge it was to have you as his 'saviour'.

Im so very sorry for your loss. My heart and thoughts are with you today.

Take care, and may he rest in peace. He will now be galloping around with all the other beautiful horses in the sky.

Edited to say, you mentioned how you can talk on here, but not in person with others. Thats how i felt when Brucie died. Whilst he was dying in my lounge, i came on here to tell you all about it. It was a good outlet for my grief, and i hope you find the same too, and feel a sense of release.

The way that you write about him, makes me want to have met him. I love horses and he sounds like one in a million. He was a big part of your life, your identity and you loved him. What a loss for you but isnt it beautiful as well, that his death has stopped you in your tracks? Take care of yourself.

Marmy, that is so sad but your words of him are so beautiful.
You really put across how much of a life you both had together, a loving one from both sides it seems.
Big hugs to you at this sad time

Oh how sad. My pony died a long time ago but I still have her photo on the mantelpiece. She had also 'done the rounds' when she came to us and was quite famous locally for once having eaten her way out of a hedged field.

But we seemed to click and we had wonderfully naughty times together.

Seems like Silver found the same with you. What a lucky boy he was.

Sorry to hear of your sad loss Marmy. You description of Silver leaves me in no doubt that you shared something very special.

It's difficult now, but he'll live on as happy memories so your Pegasus will never be too far away.

You know, you lovely lot are the best.

Its hard, yes Bonnie, I feel just like you did, its easy to type but so hard to speak to people right now. I need to say (type) and now he has gone its weird, its like you just take for granted he will be there.
I am comforted by the fact that he will be treated with some respect, unlike so many horses are at the end of their lives, the guys from the crem were sooo nice and didnt care that I was a sobbing wreck, they even cuddled me.
I will get his ashes back in a few days, then I will feel better, there is just such a void between him leaving me and then.

Your words mean a lot to me, to think that you didnt know him, or really me, for that matter, makes me feel good. Silver was a one in a million, I was solucky that we ended up together and will never forget him, his quirks, his strength and most of all, his love and quiet affection.

When I posted his pic here I was soo proud when you all said he was lovely, he was, and you are all lovely too, for caring.

Cheers
M

Ahhhwww Marmy  to you! I have cried enough buckets over the loss of a 2-3yr old hamster and having been consumed by horse and pont power for 6 of my teenage years I can imagine the loss you are feeling right now....Horses are so honest that the relationship between them and their 'mum' is so special and unique as it relies so much on trust.... I hope you have plenty of pctures to remember him by along with the years of happy memories...
