View Full Version : Mobile phone moans...
Does anyone have a mobile that uses the o2 network? If so, is your phone working alright? For some reason I can't send texts today and I really need to be able to for tonight as Im driving to someone's house and will no doubt get lost and need directions on the way.
I got this phone in November from 'Phones 4 U' and it's been nothing but touble. First of all it just conked out about 2 months and wouldn't turn on and when I took it to the muppets at Phones 4 U they told me it was becuase I had let moisture get into it which was impossible as I am very careful about that sort of thing.
They asked me if I ever kept it in my pocket when I was out in a club which I do then they said "Ah, that explains it - it'll be sweat from your pocket leaking into it" - huh? I don't think so...
So, they said Id have to send it off to get it fixed and pay some £20 insurance policy excess thing, even though I pay £7.99 a month for insurance (I don't really understand the whole insurance business)
So, of course I told them I wanted it fixed and I wasn't paying a penny. When they saw how annoyed I was they then told me about this little private place I could take it to which I did and the people at this place told me all it needed was a software update which they did for free. *Cue a smug and very angry PJ visiting Phones 4 U afterwards to tell them what he thought of them*
Anyway, back to my original question? Is anyone else having trouble with o2? This is really peeing me off!
Edited just to say that I am on a contract so it's nothing to do with having no money in the phone.
Oh my phone is working now....how embarassing
Oh well, if you have a moan about your phone, do not fear just come in here!
£7.99 a month for insurance!! I'm staggered, that's a year's worth of calls for me on my pay as you go phone.
Is the insurance part of the deal? Surely, modern mobiles are suitably robust not to go wrong that often. I imagine you were just unlucky PJ. You can buy a new one for about thirty quid can't you?
I know, Ive been meaning to phone the insurance company and actually cancel it. And no it is not part of the deal - im paying that on top of what I pay per month for line rental, calls etc!
I blame Phones 4 U - they talked me into getting it and made it sound brilliant. rest assured I told them that I cannot wait til november when my contracts up as I'll never deal with them again.
Lugger Buggs 02-04-2005, 03:57 PM I had problems with Phones 4 U. When I took my phone back after 1 month, they said I didn't get the phone from them, and virtually accused me of lying. :ranting:
Luckily I located the receipt, went back to show them - then they had no option but to help.
After that, I went to the Carphone Warehouse, and have had no problems since. *Touch Wood*
The TV advert for Phones 4 U really annoys me too, the way the bloke does the "phones 4 u" thing with his hand. :ranting:
Pj a while back my new mobile phone from orange got soaked in my handbad as I hadn't put the lid on my water properly! It was knackered, I took it back into them and said I didn't know what the problem was, they asked if it was possible it could have got water in it, I said yes it was possible,so they said they'd send it off to be repaired but would swap it anyway seeing as it's a contract phone! Excellent customer service! I don't bother with insurance, phones are so cheap now.

Ditch the mobes peej and buy a blinkin Map - they get you anywhere you wanna go you know??

Well you see Flip, I thought I had a perfectly good map but couldn't find it and this place was away out in the sticks. But I got there in the end!

Bob, that is excellent customer service! Phones 4 U weren't even going to give me a temporary replacement phone if I'd had to send the phone away to get it fixed. Apparently they "don't do that".

This doesn't surprise me at all. I certainly won't be dealing with them again.
And yes, I agree about the muppet on the adverts :glare:
kookycat 03-04-2005, 02:46 PM i got my phone from phones 4 u too! and im on 02 AND i pay that stupid insurance even tho i never got asked if i wanted it i just got told im gonna have it! and its been pointless so far nothing gone wrong with my fone as yet. tho bf had to pay £50 when the inside screen of his samsung cracked internally which surely must be a phone manufacturing fault coz he didnt apply force and it just happened when he shut the flip. so if he has insurance then why does he have to pay to get something fixed which obviously isnt fit for its purpose!!!!!!
as for problems with 02, i can text but my bf is in Prague and has been trying to phone me but it goes straight to my answer message even though my phone is on and i have reception!!! as a result i have hardly spoken to him and miss him terribly.
so with that i cant wait till my contract runs out, this time im going with vodafone. bf works there now so i can get a dead fancy smancy 3g fone (im hankering for the black samsung) on a much cheapness contract getting benefits coz technically im a "partner" and if anything goes wrong with my phone i will just give him grief and he should sort it.

This is what I couldn't understand - they wanted me to pay a £20 fee to get my phone fixed even though i pay £7.99 insurance every month.

I noticed you posted this on Saturday.
I'm on the O2 network too and I couldn't text on Saturday either but that may have had something to do with the fact that I was in the north-west Highlands surrounded by mountains.......
It was really annoying as we were meeting some friends and didn't know where they were. I had managed to text them earlier from Aviemore but as we got further and further north it just wouldn't work
claire 10-04-2005, 09:31 AM I got my last phone from phones4U and never had any problems apart from the pervy salesmen. This time I just got it off the net directly from Orange... actually HJ did it all for me! :)
I've had problems with loads of phones before. PJ you don't have to pay that much for insurance, there are companies (such as homecare insurance for ex) that do a much cheaper insurance. I think it is useful to have insurance as phones are not that cheap, my phone would cost quite a few hundred to replace, and if you don't have a phone, you still have to pay your line rental.
Usually you have about 12 months warrantee on your phone. This means that the company you bought the phone from will pay if anything goes wrong provided the damage if it is not your fault.
If the damage is your fault (water getting in) then you have to fix it on your insurance. The way they can tell if water has gotten in is that some of the metal stuff inside goes green.
