I know how to cook it but what do I eat it with? claire 04-04-2005, 08:21 PM I've bought the Lemon one and the Mediterranean one before, the lemon I have with fish, the Mediterranean one you can have with chicken, Steak, Stew... Blink 04-04-2005, 09:09 PM You can use it with pretty well anything you'd normally have rice with. The spiciness of the couscous suggests a plainer accompaniment. Flip 04-04-2005, 09:23 PM jaycee - as everyone says you can eat it with anything, treat it as a carbohydrate, like potato, rice or pasta - so if you have couscous, don't have another carb as well. Of course you can if you want, but I suppose what I am saying is you know how versatile rice, pasta or pots are? well couscous is equally as versatile. So with chops, steak, sausages, stuffed peppers or stuffed into peppers, burgers and salad, roast lamb [a perrenial fave], just about anything. Bob 04-04-2005, 09:37 PM I love couscous! Oh yummy. Jaycee, I like it with stir fry veg, it is gorgeous with crunchy baby sweetcorn, mangetout and red and yellow peppers I also throw in a tin of spicy beans. I love it with salad too. Enjoy! Rothera 05-04-2005, 10:13 AM Sainsbury's do a really nice 3% fat roasted vegetable cous cous salad. Very yummy, plus you get to feel all virtuous while eating it because it is low in fat. Hurrah. :D Flip 05-04-2005, 02:53 PM we had cous cous for our late lunch today and I found this on the side of the packet: 10 great ways with couscous serve cold instead of rice, pasta or potatoes serve as a salad simply add chopped salad ingredients place couscous in a ramekin and ivert couscous onto plate add feta cheese and olives serve with harissa paste for a hotter flavour to fill filo pastry cases to fill vegetables in a large bowl for barbeques add tuna a prawns to fill wraps I tend to buy it in a raw state and add my own ingredients depending on what we are having and what I fancy - it is far cheaper to do it this way. jaycee 05-04-2005, 04:36 PM Thank you very much all - will be having my first bash tomorrow night - would do it tonight but don't think it would go with egg n chips! The Censor 05-04-2005, 04:49 PM Be sure to cook it just right. My first attempt at it had the kids using it for a bouncy ball........you have been warned! :ninja: Nox 05-04-2005, 06:00 PM Mine's still in the cupboard Flip Flop, having been used once only :D I'll make a note of your suggestions and try and use it up before the use by date. Well if it is past its date when you come to use it - you could still cook it and fling it out for the birds!! Slipper 06-04-2005, 12:00 AM Well if it is past its date when you come to use it - you could still cook it and fling it out for the birds!! If using as bird feed make sure you OVER cook it as like rice it swells....not good for the birds to eat too much and expand .. Cous Cous is a staple in our household. Versitile, Very VEry Quick and filling. Add any thing and add to any thing... great stuff |
