I made an orange jelly last night, and I can't stop thinking about it.

I havent had jelly for years and I'd forgotten how fabulous it is, all wobbly and clear and sexy.

If cockney has sullied it I may have to kill him as there's nothing like being the first to break into a new fresh jellly.

I am very excited and can't wait to get home.

Don't you think though that jelly has to be the absolute right consistency.

Too runny and it is like snot and too thick it is just unpleasant and rubbery.

Thanks for that Flip......now I know why I am not too keen on the stuff....

LOL Buzz - my eldest gags on it every time, he tries so much to like it and the flavour is the thing that makes him keep trying, but it is the texture.

I would like a full blown report of Floops orange jelly consistency if she doesn't mind!

With all that in mind.....I would say LIME jelly would be the hardest one to eat.....what with the colour and everything....

I have every faith that it will be perfect, in a firm but soft kind of way.

If it's successful I might attempt stripey jelly next, or a jelly within a jelly.

Oh the possibilities are endless. :w00t:

I've never made a jelly inside a jelly, but I reckon you could do it if you had two bowls, one of which fitted inside the other, then you could fill the gap between the bowls with jelly and leave to harden, then make the next layer using an even smaller bowl. Not sure whether it would work to be honest, but I'm sure it would be fun trying. :)

Actually Flip, I have a challenge for you. (and anyone else)

It's Gigi's first birthday in June and we're having a Pond Party :w00t:

It involves ball ponds and paddling pools in the garden with approximately 6 very very small people and a sprinkling of under 5s.

We want to do "pond" themed food - think lilly pads, frogs, ducks etc.

Apart from cutting stuff into shapes, I'm stuck for other ideas, but now I'm thinking duck jellies, frogs on lilly pad sandwiches etc.

Any idea greatly welcomed. :wink_kiss

I love Jelly, my favourite is Strawberry. Sometimes just to make a change I add lemonade instead of water.

A friend of mine makes beetroot and orange jelly, I think it is revolting but she loves it

Oky Kokey get printing:

in honour of your jelly the first is Jolly Jelly Boats

Jolly Jelly Boats:

Ingredients:
Half a packet of jelly
1 cup natural yoghurt
1 teaspoon of sugar
250ml water
1 orange
2 straws
Coloured paper
Pen
Blue food colouring (optional)

Method:

Ask a grown-up to cut open the orange across the middle and squeeze out the juice and flesh.
Mix the juice with one cup of natural yoghurt and a tablespoon of sugar and a few drops of blue food colouring. Put it in the fridge.
Ask a grown-up to mix up the jelly with 250 ml of warm water from the kettle and dissolve all the jelly cubes by whisking them in with a fork.
When it's mixed together pour it into the orange halves.
Balance the orange halves in a cup so that the mixture doesn't fall out and make a mess. Now place the halves into the fridge.
After a few hours the jelly should have set so take them out of the fridge. Look how wobbly it has become.
Ask a grown-up to cut the jelly halves in half again.
Cut out a triangle shape out of some colourful paper and write your name on it with a pen.
With some scissors shorten your straw and stick it to your sail. Then stick it in your jelly boat.
Pour the blue yoghurt into a dish, this is the sea. Then, float your boat on top of it.
I have recipes which I will pm you with by the names of

Shark's Samosas:

Rock Pool:

Duck Dippers:

Fishy on a Dishy:

Flutterby Cakes

Apple Swamp
Iceberg Slush
[I can't take any credit for the above - they are all from Big Cook Little Cook]

pm on the way!! And actually my jellies are made with ground eggshells etc [as per Prue] - na na nah nah!!:wink_kiss

Now, I have tried to do this once for Sams birthday many moons ago. A jelly with floating insects in (those snake things etc). They all just floated to the bottome in a conjealed mess.

I would get some professional advice before embarking on this Floopy.

I didn't know that there were jelly enthusiasts that were over the age of 6.

Jelly is among the most revolting food in the world, along with oysters and tapioca pudding.

Its a texture thing.

Well we had our jelly last night, Gigi and I. She was a little confused about whether or not to eat it or drink it, so in the end she mostly wore it :w00t:

It was a big hit though, if a teensy bit sloppy (I had to guess to amount of water cos I couldnt be arsed to find a measuring jug)

I would call that a great success then floops - the wearing of jelly is absolutely compulsory at any kids' "do"

I know what you mean about being the first to take a spoonful.............. it's the noise (akin to a f.... f.rt methinks).

My mother-in-law still does traffic light jelly (one layer green, next orange, etc) for my youngest and he's 9.

I prefer it as a pre-cooked chunk.

Oh I got all excited there - I thought I had a veggie jelly recipe for you, using egg shells and lemons - but alas no on checking it does use gelatine [albeit a tiny amount].
