Tigereye 08-04-2005, 11:58 AM cheers m'deers. After checking the hotel prices I think we might bring the tent with us!!
survivorfan 08-04-2005, 11:59 AM No, I've never been so I'm afraid I can't give you any tips either.
floopy 08-04-2005, 12:04 PM Me niether, but I'm sure there's someone who can :ninja:
Bonsai 08-04-2005, 12:05 PM OH WOW you lucky lucky things ..... im so jealous i could spit :wink_kiss
Have a super wonderful time, and alas i havent been either so i cant offer any pearls of wisdom.
Ohhh you lucky things you!!!!! I have never been, but I have read plenty of books that have been set there, and it sounds JUST like a Hollywood movie.....
Hope you both have a wonderful time.....sod the expense, batter the plastic :w00t:
Patsy 08-04-2005, 12:18 PM Have a great time, TE. It will be expensive, without a doubt, anyone I know who has been says it is fantastic though. Could be an interesting time, what with Prince Rainier's recent death and everything.
Bella 08-04-2005, 12:39 PM I have been to Monaco but it was on a school holiday, many moons ago. I think I was about 13! I do remember that bus did go on the race circuit and we went through the famous tunnel and saw the fabulous boats in the marina. Monaco Palace from what I remember is lovely, I do remember having to walk through lots of wee narrow lanes filled with market stalls to get there. I would love to go back so as I could appreciate it a bit more.
That aside, I am dead jealous at you both going to the Grand Prix, I have never been to one - you lucky things!! Remember the ear-plugs, I hear that it can get pretty noisy!! :)
Edited to say I think I would have been 15 as I was in 3rd year and I do remember partaking in drinking cheap French Wine  and I certainly wasn't drinking at 13!
Tigereye 08-04-2005, 02:27 PM ooh, forgot about poor auld Rainier.
They'd hardly cancel the race, would they?
finally got a 3* hotel in Nice for e130 / night - every hotel is booked up for the sunday night, so we were lucky. Just for the first two nights, then we'll probably **** off somewhere else [read cheaper!!]...
Still the flights were cheap -e90.00 return - so we may end up bashing the plastic as isis suggested, then just stay in every night for the rest of the year......:angel_not
Just found out the beach in nice is pebbly. boo....... I don't DO lying on pebbles.......
better hit the casino instead...
You pair of jammy bu@@ers you.
And you din't even think to invite me?? Tut tut!!
Get your pennies at the ready and hit the casinos straight off - but just go for black or red on the roulette wheel - then you have a 50/50 chance .. goood luck. Mr F has a scheme that used to always work - but I can't remember it.
And well done for finding a hotel for that - I would be thinking Camp France after that tho!!!
HAve a FABBY time you two - I know it will be a blast, and knowing your charms you will get most stuff for free anyway!! Love ya both - bon voyage [said in a Sacha Distel sort of accent] - actually that smillie was for you two - and not Sacha!!!
mazwad 08-04-2005, 06:38 PM Me and Crit have been just for the day when we were doing a bit of a tour de france in a big old converted mercedes van. It was about 10 years ago and in August so it was really hot, we spent the day on the beach. We only bought a few drinks in a small shop right near the seafront and the price was hardly any different to other places we had visited. We didn't eat there so no help on that and also it wasn't as flash as we had expected. The one thing I do remember was there were loads of people with small dogs and lots of poo around which did surprise me. The other thing I remember was men on jetskis with nets on the side cleaning up any debris in the sea. I wish they had taken as much trouble with the dog poo. We never had much of a look around because of the heat so maybe we saw the seedier side that said it was a lovely day and we did walk on part of the race track while we were there. I'm sure you will have a great time I would love to go again and explore a bit more so I'm very envious.
Fee For All 08-04-2005, 06:41 PM Booze and fags are expensive - get along the coast to Ventimiglia, there's an offie just past the old border with sensible Italian prices...
(you don't have to go as far as Ventimiglia - the booze shop is just past Menton!
(have a fab time BTW)
Yeah I have been to Monaco once or twice. When I was a child with me mum and dad..but I do remember it being horribly expensive....like £15 for three orange juices.
But Fee is right across the border and onto Ventiwhasit market.. Brill market with loads of lace and marble as I remember.....
You;ll have a great time.
floopy 08-04-2005, 07:04 PM Get your pennies at the ready and hit the casinos straight off - but just go for black or red on the roulette wheel - then you have a 50/50 chance .. goood luck. Mr F has a scheme that used to always work - but I can't remember it.
Cockney has a scheme like that. I involves him sitting at the roulette table for four hours at a time and me getting bored and petulant :ninja:
Andrea 08-04-2005, 09:12 PM Hubby was based in Monaco for a while when he worked on private yachts. Everytime Monaco is on the telly, he always says in a very sad voice that he used to work and live there and wished he was still there.
He says you'll have walked around the place in the first morning its that small.
Apparently there was an American bar and a few English bars where everyone used to meet up. (everyone meaning all the people that worked on the boats) but that has probably changed since he was there.
He does remember alot of Ferrari's being around after the grand prix, all the rich kids driving around. He remembers walking past a garage and seeing about 12 ferrari's all parked up.
Have a great time anyway TE. You'll love it.
Minklemar 11-04-2005, 11:48 AM I've never been, but I'll look forward to hearing all about it!!
Tigereye 11-04-2005, 02:48 PM Someone told me at a party on sat that you can't enter Monaco from Nice without a race ticket - which we don't have
Apparantly the stand tickets start at £250.00. No bleeding way, José.
S'pose we'll just have to watch it on a big screen with a cold beer so.......
