View Full Version : The Royal Wedding
Will you be watching??
Are you planning anything out of the ordinary?
Is there a party in the air?
I will be watching, and I will be raising a refined glass of unmilked Darjeeling to the happy couple. I doubt tomorrow will be on the scale of Charles and Diana's wedding - but, I dare say, will be meant from the bottom of both hearts. I will toast them with much love and hope for happiness.
Groucho 08-04-2005, 06:34 PM N.F.I. .....
I was THERE for Andy and Fergies....when I worked in London at a hotel (with Patsy, but she didn't come). It was an electric day....we were up about 5am, caught the relevent tube, the image of Mad Lizzy (remember her - the original work out queen) doing her thing in Trafalger Square is etched on my brain.
We found our spot and guarded it from the pack of elderly ladies with a killer passion. When the guilt open topped coaches drove by I will never forget our Front Office Manager almost passing out as he screamed..."LIZZY"...."MAGGIE"...."ANDY"..etc.
We went for a liquid lunch in a small but throbbing pub, full of Australians....then re-emerged to watch the happy wedding pary wave from the balcony.
We retired happy and spent to our local that night.....where fortunately for me one of the earlier Australians I had me was there............
floopy 08-04-2005, 07:07 PM Nope, fraid not, although it's bound to be on when we get to my mum's so i guess we'll catch some of it.
Dolores 08-04-2005, 07:51 PM sigh! i remember the Prince Charles and Diana wedding! glory days! me and my boyfriend turned the tv off and had sex ALL day. sigh!
Somehow I doubt I will be doing the same for Charles and Cam - so I may even watch a snippet on tv and remember more raunchy times!
Andrea 08-04-2005, 09:02 PM I'll be watching.
I'm not really sure why, but I'll probably have it on.
And I am going out tomorrow night, so maybe a glass or two of wine could be consumed :wink2:
N.F.I. .....
Do tell Grouchy, you old Groucho me lad!!???
Critique 08-04-2005, 09:25 PM I'll be watching, but then I bet you would have all put money on it - lol.
Just nosey, want to see what she wears, if there are crowds turning up or not that many, etc. and as I have absolutely nothing else planned for tomorrow.

Well done you Critique - pray tell young lady what will you be drinking?? will it be a chilled sauvignon blanc, or a blended tea?? May you be wearing something special or will it be a cashj. thing? [as the invites suggest?].
I am going for the all out sloppy comfy look, maybe beaded slippers for a bit of glam - and a cup or three of Darjeeling. I could well nosh a crostini with a bit of tapenade and roasted pepper for an hor d'ouerves - other than than that I shall be fiddling with lego and sellotape models [my youngests present hobby!!]
Marmoset 08-04-2005, 10:15 PM I won't be watching, I have to go to a friends house to set up a computer for them and then I have a hot date with a gorgeous young guy ;)
I will probably catch the highlights on the news in the evening tho....and raise a glass of Lynx lager. Dress code will be jeans n T shirt.
I must admit I'm not keen on Charles, but Camilla seems OK. I just wish they had both had the courage of their convictions and got married many years ago (before Diana and all that). But hey ho, that's life.

I have selected the "grunge" look. Baggy pink fleece with a random beige pattern resembling tea-stains (Oh it is tea stains) teamed with navy polyester s-t-r-e-t-c-h comfort trousers and to complete the ensemble my navy slippers with embroidered teddy-bears.
Tea will be intraveinous so I don't have to go to kitchen and I might just utilise the Tenna-Lady to avoid unnecessary trips to the loo.
I will prepare a finger buffet consisting of crispbreads, pate and fruit with maybe the odd fresh cream doughnut or 4.
Exciting isn't it - think I will get an "early" night so I can get a good seat tomorrow.
I will be wearing something similar to Critique, although my matching ensemble will be maroon to hide the red wine stains. I've gone for the rather more trendy holey slippers with peek-a-boo toes, all the rage for those watching ascot this year don't you know.
I'll be dining on PG tips and salt and vinegar crisps. I will of course be sleeping on the floor tonight with only a sleeping bag to keep me warm, in order to secure my place in front of the telly before the ceremony begins.

Good strategy with the sleeping bag Nox. I've just realised I've run out Union Jacks on sticks - I'll have to wave a spare pop-sock.
I'll be watching and I hope it goes well for them.
People who love each other should be together.
Hope the press don't give them too tough a time
Islandman 09-04-2005, 01:48 AM My grandma has all this memorabilia from the Prince Charles and Diana wedding way back when...they have these tins and such. I just remembered that because the USA Today newspaper had a section on all the new memorabilia for this wedding....weird things they do for these royal weddings. lol.
I'm listening to Talk on the radio..live reporting coming thru....
Critique - why not wear your Sanitary Slippers, infact you could embose a picture of Charles on one and Camilla on the other and be on to a winner.
Please post a picture so the newer members can see your handywork.

Patsy 09-04-2005, 08:52 AM I'll try and watch what I can, but don't hold out much hope unless I stay in the kitchen, without a computer and THAT ain't gonna happen.
I'm quite interested, but don't mind seeing highlights later.
I'm going to make Charles and Camilla dolls out of toilet rolls and pipe cleaners - polystyrene ball for heads and map out the route with Freddie's Brio train track.
I would like to incorporate some animals...does the route go by a farm or zoo perhaps?
Patsy 09-04-2005, 09:08 AM It's not far from Thorpe Park, don't think there are any animals there, though.

Wow cat - what a brilliant idea. Oh if only I had thought of that I could have made a fortune. I haven't quite worked out how to make slippers out of a Tampax yet but these are my new Chas and Cam Maxi slippers

Patsy 09-04-2005, 09:36 AM Critique, you are truly a star.
Dolores 09-04-2005, 09:50 AM I am mucho impressed by the slippers Critique! I also get the impression that camilla would roar with laughter if she saw them! Excellent way to mark the day!!!
Critique 09-04-2005, 09:55 AM Glad you like the slippers - never one to quit while I'm winning, I think I have the ultimate tacky souvenir or future memorabillious.

Patsy 09-04-2005, 10:01 AM I think I'd rather have Camilla up there, thanks, no offence.
Dolores 09-04-2005, 10:13 AM Didn't Charlie say that he would like to be "her tampon" on the Camillagate tapes? Thus making this the perfect gift. I will take a gross (quite literally) and flog 'em down the market this afternoon, please!
Bella 09-04-2005, 10:24 AM LOL Critique - you really have a hidden talent!! :w00t:
I won't be watching as we are off uptown to the Science Festival! I will watch the highlights tonight. Actually last night we had a bottle of wine and we raised a glass.....or two to the Pope and to Charles & Camilla. I think they look a well-suited couple and wish them many congratulations and hope that the media give them good press on their Wedding Day. :)
Fee For All 09-04-2005, 10:38 AM Oh Critique - brilliant!!!
:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Well I thought she looked rather lovely.

BTW did I miss it??
claire 09-04-2005, 12:08 PM I'm loving it! Its so exciting, I feel so emotional! :bye:
Critique 09-04-2005, 12:13 PM Hahaha - just a bit of fun. I really wish them all the best now the deed is done. And yes, Charles did say he wanted to be her Tampon in the Camillagate tapes.
I thought they looked happy but slightly ill at ease - can't blame them really. It does all seem strange to see our future King (possibly) coming out of the Register Office - lol.
I was surprised they both turned up together. I thought they would come separately.
Thought the outfit she chose was pretty "safe" - no great surprises there eh? She looked very nice but she'll have to learn to wave without nearly knocking her hat off. I wish Charles had at least taken her hand in his when they got into the car. Are they afraid to show their feelings even on their wedding day?
Oh Well - Congratulations Charles and Camilla. I don't necessarily agree with the marriage but I can't bear them any ill will.
The Censor 09-04-2005, 12:23 PM I was disgusted with those that booed them when they got out of the car, that was totally uncalled for and stank in my opinion. :pooh:
I hope they will both be very happy, my own life has run very similar to the way Charles has, but with differences ( I lost sight of my first love totally until after my marriage had broken up).
mazwad 09-04-2005, 12:29 PM Crit are those maxi's that old or are they your incontinence pads. :wink2:
Patsy 09-04-2005, 12:36 PM I am glad for them that they are together now. If not for royal protocol, they would have been together years ago. Many lives would not have been ruined. I think the low key approach was absolutely spot on. They've both done it before and I believe they have shown a great amount of sense and respect.
I wasn't keen on Diana myself, but was still very affected by her death. She married for love, Charles married someone "appropriate". She bore two boys whom she loved with her whole being. History speaks for itself.
I also believe that if Charles had married Camilla earlier, she would have been, and still will be, an excellent ambassador. She would not have touched so many hearts and their kids wouldn't have been as good looking, admittedly. :bag:
They were both victims of circumstance, unfortunately Diana was tragically caught in the middle.
I wish them luck and happiness.
Patsy 09-04-2005, 03:42 PM Thank you Dabby x
Good luck to them, they looked really happy if a bit tense.
I thought Camilla's hat was going to blow off at the end and so did she by looks of things.
There is nothing as ordinary as weding is there?
No one can do it for you, they looked sweet together knelt down holding hands. Aww!
I kept thinking someone (from the royal family) go up and give her a kiss when they were stood on the steps outside, go on Queen give your daughter in law a hug. But I suppose they don't do public affection, can't blame them given the UK press, I bet they had a snog at the registry office, and a bit of a laugh too with close friends and family and no cameras.
I think Camilla was already married when Charles met her wasn't she? In any case they wouldn't have been allowed cos he had to marry a virgin for the line.

They were both single when they met, but she was deamed as unsuitable, so she married his friend about 8 years before he married Diana.
I only looked at it for a few mins - to see what she was wearing, and I am shocked to say I loved the style of her outfit!
Im afraid that as far as the rest of it goes, Im (in the words of Groucho) N.F.I.

Why couldn't she just lie....I did to Mr Cat.

I liked her outfits too Isi, and thought they looked very well suited. My favourite shot was of Tony Blair sat in with the choir looking all interested and thoughtfull.

Marmoset 09-04-2005, 07:05 PM I think Critique should sell those slippers on Ebay! They're brill!
Seriously!!!
M :)
Well it was quite wonderful, both her outfits were lovely, the second one in particular - I loved the headpeice. I sang along to the hymns, I even followed the Revelations passage in my bible. I cringed at the Russian lady singing the Creed in Russian [eeek - pants]. And whistled along to the instrumentals. I star spotted and gave myself a running commentary on who I saw and what they looked like.
I laughed out loud when Harry took the mick out of Williams hair [like a busted cooch - is the saying!!].
And I didn't shed a tear - it was all very lovely.
Critique 09-04-2005, 08:01 PM I loved the outfits - thought Zara Phillips looked a bit weird in that psychadelic outfit and black boots but then maybe I am an old fuddy duddy :)
Only thing I didn't like was that Hat/feather thing Camilla wore at the blessing. I didn't think it looked quite "right" and certainly not for a windy day. A little tiara would have looked nice I thought cos the dress was very "princess" looking and she wouldn't have had to hold it on.
Favourite bits were William and Harry looking very natural and boyish (especially William blowing kisses), Princess Anne actually smiling and doing "cold" actions across the chapel to another guest and Charles helping Camilla find her page (she probably forgot her glasses) oh yes and the little fumbling of hands when they had the rings blessed. I liked the way Camilla was obviously looking to Charles to lead her and he seemed very protective of her too.
It must be strange for Camilla's children to suddenly be the children of a possible future Queen. I hope their lives don't suddenly hit the headlines or attract a lot of media attention.
I'm sorry to everyone who e-mailed me for the commemorative slippers. I'm afraid they were a one-off exclusive and will be passed down as family heirloom. Do have a go at making some for yourself though ;)
I had a tear in my eye a few times, because I like happy endings.
I'm dead soft sometimes.
Camilla looked great in that simple elegant outfit - in fact everyone did.
Favourite bits; the Queen rushing off to put the kettle on and lay out the finger buffet before the guests arrived!
The Royal Bus was funny, it would have been funnier if Prince Andrew had mooned out the back window as it pulled away.
There was a piece on the news later where Melvyn Bragg was asked about the reception party. He said the Queen had addressed the guests by saying 'I expect you all want to know the result of the national'
The smiling faces, the relaxed atmosphere, the exquisite music. I enjoyed it all.
There were a few more guests and a lot more interest than a 'normal' wedding, but this felt about as ordinary as a Royal wedding could possibly be and this time the couple getting married had the normal emotions of any couple on their wedding day - they love one another.

.
LARF..Mr Cat went ballistic at this...****ing going to get the buffet ready...my ******, he repeated rather a lot!.
and yes it was great to see them all clamber onto the coach..."how does one do this".
I really enjoyed the coverage...on BBC1 when they were coming out of the blessing, not sure who the two blokes were who were commentating but bloomin hilarious..."lots of smiles here today"..."oh yes..there goes Charles..well nearly...oh the queen she did..and it seemed genuine!" "here's the Duke...he does frowns really well, well hopefully not today". Brilliant.
Good luck to them both I say.
Aspen 10-04-2005, 03:01 PM I thought she looked very elegant and a duchess in every way. I hope they are happy together
Fee For All 10-04-2005, 05:34 PM I caught this on the late night news.
She did look good in the second outfit, and much improved by the new hair colour.
Her daughter seemed to have walked under a tree and got a large bunch of twigs caught in her hair, but despite that she outshone Zara who looked as if she'd been to Bluewater for her outfit.
BTW did anyone else notice Will's bald spot? Wonder if he will go the same way as Uncle Edward :shocking:. In contrast, young Harry Hewitt seems to have a fine head hair.
I have no time for the royals, but the affection between C and C was clear to see, so a happy outcome hopefully.
Bella 11-04-2005, 10:50 AM I really wished I had watched it as it seemed a marvellous occassion! She looked absolutely stunning, her both outfits were lovely and she looked a proper Duchess! Charles seemed totally at ease and Wills & Harry really enjoyed it too. Was it Zara that was wearing the white skirt and red flower shoes? They showed a clip of it on This Morning but I couldn't make out who it was. I hope that Saturday is the turning point for the public to realise that Charles is happy with Camilla, they are so at ease with each other and look the perfect couple. It was very touching when he found her place in the bible again, and it was quite sad that Charles was unable to kiss his bride as he knew there would be comparisons made to the "kiss" with Diana. Loved it when the boys threw the confetti over their dad. I think despite what garbage the media write about them, Wills & Harry are happy with what Charles has done and it clearly shows that they have a very loving relationship. I am so glad it went so well, we did enjoy our day out at the Science Festival but it would have been nice to see the Wedding.
The only downside for me were those bunch of saddos camped outside Kensington Palace holding a vigil for Diana.........YAWN!!!! Have they nothing better to do with their lives. Let's face it Charles did have an affair but in those years he has only ever had Camilla, how many losers did Diana get in tow with?
Was it Zara that was wearing the white skirt and red flower shoes?
No Bella - I am not sure who that was. Zara had the blue/turquiose/black 70's style wrap over Puuci dress, with a black trilby and black boots - she walked into the registry office with Will and Harry.
The other bit I loved and I only saw it last night on The Queen's Castle [BBC 8pm] was when Camilla and Charles drove off on their honeymoon - some wag - had painted Prince and Duchess a la 'Wayne and Sharon' on the visor of their Bentley.
The girl in the very short white skirt and red shoes was Tom Parker-Bowles's fiancee, Sarah Buys.

Thanks Cat, obviously trying to create an impresssion..........the wrong one!! It looked like she had just popped into Matalan and picked a few bits & pieces from the bargain shelf!

She is actually a fashion editor at Harpers and Queens!!
Bella 11-04-2005, 12:50 PM She is actually a fashion editor at Harpers and Queens!!
Well, there is hope for us then!!
mazwad 11-04-2005, 03:11 PM It was Wills and Harry who decorated the car I think. There were photos of that awful outfit in the paper today what was she thinking of. If you were going to an occasion like that surely you would have a good look at the outfit from all angles.
Bonsai 11-04-2005, 03:53 PM I didnt see the wedding itself, but i saw the highlights on the news. Camilla really did look lovely, and blummin scared stiff. She should of had a large brandy before going to the church !!!
And Maswad, you're right, it was Harry and Wills who painted Prince 4 Duchess on the car
Ceridwen 11-04-2005, 04:23 PM Actually I thought the car decorations were probably done by a PR person who thought the "wacky" idea of the Princes decorating the car would make the Royals seem so much more normal and accessible...but then I am a cynical cow!
Minklemar 11-04-2005, 05:07 PM I went to Sicily for the weekend so I missed the wedding - but I saw a bit on This Morning this morning.
I thought that Camilla looked lovely! All the young royals seemed to be having a great time which was lovely to see.
And what a bunch of saddos the people who turned up to boo were - they should be ashamed of themselves.
floopy 11-04-2005, 05:16 PM Glad to see that we have our priorities right though, Ken and Dierdre's Wedding pulled in 3 million more viewers than Charles and Camilla's :pimp:
