View Full Version : Dublin SO Meet - October 21st- 23rd 2005
Is it possible that everyone going to Dublin can get into the chat room at a pre arranged time to discuss accommodatin and other issues?
Would be useful to know who is sharing a room and who needs a room, I know quite a lot are staying at the milenium towers.
What do you all think?
Can I come in too just for the banter?
Can I come in too just for the banter?
Only if you promise to strip down to your boxers and dance for us
Only if you promise to strip down to your boxers and dance for us
Do you know bobski we are going to get on just fine....I was just about to post that all non meeters who attend the chat must be naked. But naked and dancing is better.
I'm up for that.
Bella 07-06-2005, 09:04 PM All the non-meeters should bring the nibbles too!!

I thought all your family were coming secrets? Our flights are 4pm friday and 6pm sunday....looks like most of us will be at the airport to fly home at the same time which will be nice. We can wave each plane off.

I'll see what I can do Cat!! I'm sure it will be a delight for all of you ... in fact you may even all club together to pay for my ticket in a desparate attempt NOT to see me naked and dancing!

Coastie 12-06-2005, 08:26 PM Coasties Mum say's she is really looking forward to the weekend but is a little apprehensive about meeting these people I often talk about with names like Buzz, Cat, Tigereye and Ils etc.....I have explained these are user-names and not your real names and I think she's starting to understand it all a bit more.....
secrets 14-06-2005, 12:36 AM Is your mom registered Coastie?
If not she should sign up immediately - then i can pm her and 'spill the beans' about everyone!!
*Maybe not*
But it's a wonderful opportunity to acclimatise - no?
Coastie 14-06-2005, 05:16 AM No Secrets...mum did contemplate signing up as 'Coasties Mum' but then realised she really doesn't have the time to sit a twitter away on a site like this (she fears she may become addicted you see) and so mum has shown restraint and stepped away from the PC! :wink2:
Islandman 22-06-2005, 02:34 AM Good News...I will be coming to England, and to the Dublin meet, as I got a summer job!
Bad news...I have to work at McDonald's. lol...man, the lengths I will go just to meet y'all!! haha...no, it shouldn't be too bad...may even be kinda fun/ny
But I am thoroughly excited...because I was really worried I wouldn't be able to find a job soon enough to allow me to come over there...but it looks like it will all work out fine...hooray! :w00t:

Excellent Islandman! Can't wait to meet you! And I am sure there are worse places than McDonalds to eat, just make sure you go out somewhere else for your lunch!
See you in October! :bye:
Andrea 22-06-2005, 09:35 AM Hey great news Islandman.
Which McDonald's will you be working in, we can all come and be difficult customers:w00t:
One thing though, don't forget your fries are our chips. I remember going into McDonalds in America and asking for chips and the woman looked disgustedly at me and said we don't serve them:laugh:

no no..i'm working at a mcdonald's here in the states for the summer...so i can pay for the initial part of my trip before i get my first paycheck from whatever job i get when over there....as I head over there in september.
Although I know what you mean with the chips thing, when I was in Australia several years ago I ordered chips at some food stand in a park and they came out with fries and I was just a bit confused. lol.
Andrea 22-06-2005, 10:16 PM Ahhh, I understand now, bit dense sometimes I am.
Saturday
What are everyones plans?
Sunday
Whether we all hate each other or not by this stage, I think it would be nice to have a big sit down meal together somewhere.
I think most of us will be leaving for the airport at the same time.
Thoughts and suggestions please.

Patsy 05-07-2005, 08:25 PM Cat, I invited Colette today. You know, the one who was bridesmaid at my wedding that you didn't come to? Tall bird, long legs, big tits. If she comes she'll probably bring her sister. Taller bird, longer legs. Both drink like whales, mind.

What are everyones plans?
No idea Cat, I would like to do something cultural and explore the City of Dublin and do the pub thing at night, but am relying on TE to give us idea of where and where not to go! I arrive at 9am on Friday morning and my flight is 9pm (or thereabouts) on the Sunday night, so loads of time to check out Dublin's fair City!
I think TE suggested a Comedy Club for Saturday night, which sounds fab to me! :thumbsip:
Maybe we organise a night in the chat-room or on MSN for all who are going to discuss some plans.

Tips for American people visiting England:
1. If you want to buy rubbers you have to go to a stationery store.
2. To make yourself popular stand on a street corner with a placard "I LOVE GEORGE BUSH" - you will make lots of new and interesting friends.
3. Don't bother with queuing, just push your way to the front.
4. Never tip a taxi driver.
5. Kippers and ice cream is the latest food craze. If they don't have it in the restaurant, stand on a table and shout "I demand proper service" - it's what everyone here does and you will get a lot of respect for it and make lots of new friends.

4. where do I tip then? restaurants? bars? when getting a hair cut?
5. what are kippers? lol
Fee For All 10-07-2005, 11:17 AM Hi islandman - just give me all your money in Dublin, and I'll make sure you don't slip up with tipping protocol
Oh and kippers are smoked herring. The best ones come from Loch Fyne near where I grew up, but they are still

Coastie 20-07-2005, 01:24 PM Too late TE...we have warned all ports of your impending attempts to escape and they have said - 'We will make every effort to ensure that TE is around on your arrival in October. We do this as we feel she is the only one who may be able to keep some control of such a gaggle of imports!'
:w00t:
Tigereye 20-07-2005, 02:53 PM Rats, imprisoned on me own island.

I vote you as leader Cat, along with TE of course as we need someone who at least knows where they we are going!
Anyone want to second, Cat?
I like the idea of the identity tags Cat, shall we leave that job with you?
And as for the leader I vote it be the soberest (is there such a word) one at the time! :bag: Along with TE of course
survivorfan 20-07-2005, 07:19 PM I don't know if I'm coming or not but still I'd vote for CAT because sober or otherwise I think she'd lead us down some new and very interesting paths.

I was hoping you would take on one of these tasks Buzz and Patsy have their own agenda's.

You actually have no idea what you are taking on either, but that's your problem. he he he
GOOD LUCK
Coastie 21-07-2005, 07:05 AM I will follow anyone anywhere...I wont be a leader as I will have my hands full enough with my mum.....I am however willing to offer my rather loud bellow for rounding up purposes!
Bella 21-07-2005, 07:47 AM Cat, ditch the Name Tags and get a bleeper thingy (can't remember the technical term) but it was shown on GMTV this morning, you strap the bleeper thingy to your wrist and set a proposed distance and if you go out of that range the bleeper thingy bleeps! It was one of Dr Hilary Jones's tips so it must work! What do you think? Or do you reckon we should have name tags as well, just in case? :w00t:
Coastie 21-07-2005, 08:05 AM Can we not have those things they had in the Arnie movie where if you step outside the line the collar blows up and takes your head off! :w00t:

Now, c'mon Coastie that is a bit extreme. Anyhows, a few Guiness's and cocktail in the lively City of Dublin will be more than enough to take the head off some people in our party!
Coastie 21-07-2005, 08:54 AM And a dodgy pie or two will make the bottom fall out of our worlds! :w00t: :pooh:

Forget it, too organised. Lets just go to the pub would be much easier.
tonee 22-07-2005, 05:29 PM I have hesitated about putting my name down as I wasnt sure what my plans where (in the country or not) but I will join some of the debauchery - you do know it is considered normal to vomit in the street here!!!:w00t:

Ireland is so much more accomodating to the drinking classes isn't it.
tonee 22-07-2005, 05:41 PM Ireland is so much more accomodating to the drinking classes isn't it.
It is a fantastic place to let you hair (and whatever else) down, be sociable, meet new people and drink ( a lot). A very welcoming country. And funny too.
Right thats me sorted then...pub friday, saturday and sunday. Can't be arsed to plan anything else.

Bella 25-07-2005, 08:26 PM Here Kitty, Kitty! Eeek, I don't know how that look would go down at the Edinburgh departure lounge at 7am in the morning! Eeek, I am going to have to be up really early that morning! :w00t:
Great news that you are coming along Tonee! Looking forward to meeting you along with the others!
karenh 27-07-2005, 12:36 PM I'm afraid I definitely, definitely can't come to this meet.
I have to be in Jersey the following week for work and am flying out on the Sunday. There's no way I could go to Dublin on Friday, fly back on Sunday morning and fly out for a week in Jersey on Sunday afternoon. Logistically, it would be a nightmare.
So this time, I'll have to pass I'm afraid
That's a shame Karen
Tigereye 27-07-2005, 02:20 PM Ah boo Karen, really thought you might make this one!
You could always come over for the Friday night and fly back Saturday evening?!
karenh 27-07-2005, 02:54 PM I thought there was a chance I could make it too, but it is not to be.
I did briefly consider coming out on Friday and returning on Saturday, but there are 2 problems with that:
1. I would hate to return to London on the Saturday night knowing you were all out on the lash without me.
2. Mr H might be a bit miffed if he thought that I was swanning off to Dublin for a night without him immediately before I swan off to Jersey for a week without him!
think of me though!
Patsy 27-07-2005, 03:15 PM That's a real shame Karen. The meet could really have done with someone intelligent and sophisticated. Oh well, Cat's going. :bag: :w00t:
Seriously, though, shame you can't go. Hopefully see you at the next one.

Crikey - if you're looking for sophistication, I'm not sure that I would have fit the bill! The first SO meet I ever went to I got way drunk and barfed in the toilets
It is a shame though. There's quite a few people going that I would like to have met
The meet could really have done with someone intelligent and sophisticated. Oh well, Cat's going. :bag: :w00t:

Shall we all come to Jersey instead? :ninja:

You'll be needing the guided tours Patsy (cos apparently you'll have no one sophisitacated and intelligent to talk to all weekend :glare: )

Nice recovery there Patsy, very nice.......... :)
Of course I am still coming......Do you really think I would leave you to fly all alone with cat??
Patsy 28-07-2005, 11:59 AM The flying's the easy bit. Get her so tanked up that she's able to even get onto the plane and so that she's asleep for the flight, then wake her up when we land. Sorted.........
But thanks for thinking of me.

I shall ignore this Patsy.
Moving on.
Having chatted to varius peeps attending the Dublin meet...the general census is that most people want some time do their own thing. Is there an official meet time/date?
Possibly friday night? I think myself, Buzz and Patsy are the latest arrivals and we should still make the pub by 8 - 9pm leaving plenty of time to meet and greet (in the words of the ungracious Charlotte Church).
If I may be so bold and put Friday night as the official meet if we are all arriving and will all meet then...
...can I be so bold as to put that forward?
I would personally like saturday (day) to do as I please.
Amen.
Nothing has been fixed in stone yet Cat as it is still about 10 weeks away.
I agree with you, I think most people will want to do their own thing and just meet up as a group in the evenings.
I think the official meet really needs to be when the Dubliners can make it (either Friday or Saturday evening), once we know that then we can go from there....
And I'm sure TE will find us a couple of good pubs for us to meet up in...

I don't drink guinness.....
I quite like guinness, but couldn't neck pints of it...maybe if a stick to halfs..hmm could be a first.
Tonee whats your tipple do you stick with the one drink through out...or do you switch to wine or shorts?
Start drinking guinness by the bucket for preparation and into adopting a new culture.
Oh tonee my dear I started a while back - the odd half on a Tuesday afternoon after a 4 mile walk to the local, the odd half has now progressed and I am pretty well practiced. But the trouble is I now associate Guiness with a jolly long walk before and after ... **reminder to self to take trainers**

Islandman 28-07-2005, 08:13 PM I don't drink guinness.....
I don't either...never really liked it.
Btw folks....do you think it will be a problem if I wait to make flight arrangements until I'm over in England...which would be about a month or so before the meet. Do flights fill up quickly or should I be fine?

Not drinking so much these days but I like to drink pints ...but I switch, no particular drink as such.

I'm not sure what to suggest for the best IM. I have just checked Ryan Air's website and there are flights avaliable now but who knows if there will be nearer the time. All I do know is as the flights get filled the prices go up. It also depends on where you will be in London what airport would be best for you to use, I think there are 5 different ones. Do you know what area you will be living in yet?

No, that's why I figured I'd wait...I won't know until I am there for a couple days exactly where I'll be. I'll probably just have to take my chances with it...but I guess I'll look at the flight sites and see what I should do...could always just pick an airport and hope I am nearest to that one. lol.

Ryan Air fly from Gatwick, Stanstead and Luton. At the moment Cat, Patsy & Buzz are flying from Luton Friday afternoon & Fee and I are flying from Gatwick Friday morning.

Alright..I'll look at flights around those times....seems as tho flight prices vary rather largely based on time of day and day of week...so will fiddle around with dates to see what is best....but I may just have to take my chances and wait 'til I get to England...I don't think the price difference would be too drastic from buying now to buying then.
Ok IM, if you want any help once you get to England, then just give me a shout :D
Tigereye 29-07-2005, 08:49 AM I don't think the price fluctuates much from the standard fare on either Ryanair or Air Lingus (or Cunna as we call it  ), especially around Sep /Oct, so you should have plenty of time to bag an offer IM
Air Lingus (or Cunna as we call it  ),
LMAO - Glad to see the oldies but goldies still raising the rooves - :w00t:

Bella 09-08-2005, 06:08 AM Okay, before anyone starts, this really should be in the joke thread but since it is sort of Irish related I thought why not!!
Catherine, Maria Theresa, Katherine Marie, Rose Frances, & Novice Mary Kathleen left the Convent on a trip to St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and were sight-seeing on a Tuesday in July.
It was hot and humid in town and their traditional garb was making them so uncomfortable. They decided to stop in at Patty McGuire's Pub for a cold soft drink.
Patty had recently added some special legs to his barstools which were the talk of the fashionable eastside neighborhood. All 5 Nuns sat up at the bar and were enjoying their Cokes when Monsignor Riley entered the bar through the front door with Father McGinty for a cold drink when they were shocked and almost fainted at what they saw.

Fee For All 09-08-2005, 09:44 AM :laugh::laugh: I wondered what on earth that was!!
secrets 09-08-2005, 05:42 PM I don't think we should do Irish jokes in this thread Bella - oh go on then.
An Irishman an Englishman and a Scot were sitting in a bar. The view was
fantastic, the beer excellent, the food exceptional. "Y'know" said the
Scotsman, "I still prefer the pubs back home. Why in Glasgow there's a
little bar called McTavish's. Now the landlord there goes out of his way
for the locals so much, that when you buy 4 drinks he will buy the 5th
drink for you." "Well" said the Englishman, "At my local, the Red Lion,
the barman there will buy you your 3rd drink after you buy the first 2."
"Ahhh that's nothin'" said the Irishman. "Back home in Dublin there's
Ryan's Bar. Now the moment you set foot in the place they'll buy you a
drink, then another, all the drinks you like. Then when you've had
enough drinks they'll take you upstairs and see that you get laid. All
on the house." The Englishman and Scotsman immediately pour scorn on the
Irishman's claims. He swears every word is true. "Well" said the
Englishman, "Did this actually happen to you?" "Not me myself,
personally, no," said the Irishman. "But it did happen to me sister."
Naith was watching CBeebies this afternoon and there was a bit on about Dublin.
He said to me 'Mummy when you go up the chimney can you take a photograph of the WHOLE of Dublin for me?' aww bless - but what piggin chimney???
He said I could also go on an open topped bus and take photos that way of the wonderful city of Dublin. I could see some merit in this mode of transport!
Tigereye 11-08-2005, 04:04 PM Lol Flip - I think he means a restored chimney in the Old Market area of town - you can go up it and get a decent view of the city from the top.
If you haven't been to Dublin before the open top bus is quite a good way to fit everything in -
and as Aondeag said the Viking Experience is also good craic. You put on so'westers and viking horned helmets and bomb around in a bus that ploughs straigh into the river liffey [you DO get wet, but you probably will be in Dublin in October anyway ]
Actually, after re-reading that it sounds a little too monty pythonesque by half :shocking:
Bella 11-08-2005, 04:19 PM The open-top bus sounds good to me. Is it one of those hop-on/hop-off kind of thingys? We done these buses in Washington and Boston, never done the Edinburgh one though!
Patsy 11-08-2005, 04:21 PM They are indeed, Bella. When I went a couple of years ago, it peed like you wouldn't believe and there was no room downstairs. We had to go to the Guinness museum to dry off. :bag:
Scooby 11-08-2005, 04:44 PM I won't be there. I'll be in Leeds. Or at Leeds, what you wish.
I have been to Dublin before though. We went to a club called Club M, got incredibly blitzed and danced to Lola's Theme on a podium. Hurrah!
cheerio!

OMG - that sounds BRILLIANT AD and TE - and does it really go into the River Liffey???:shocking:
I would love to phone Mr F and worry his little cotton pickin pants - by saying I have been in the River Liffey!!!
We had to go to the Guinness museum to dry off And what a perfect second act to the River Liffey - oooo I am getting excited now!!! :w00t:

Bella 12-08-2005, 03:37 PM Just a thought and not wanting to step on anyone's toes here but....I know it is about 8 weeks until we meet but we will probably have to book somewhere both nights for eats won't we or will we just see what we can once we are out. There was a time years ago when alcohol would have been suffice but I just love eating out in places that will be kiddie-free!
So TE, Tonee and any more of the Irish gang (is Aoneaog - can't spell that name but you know who I mean - over in Dublin?) give us a list of suggestion for us to get a scran or as I have said above do we just go with the flow and hang around the kebabs shops?! :w00t:
btw - edited - how many of us are going to be there, I have lost count!
Personally I would just prefer to go with the flow and see what is about once we are out.
Edited as Bella edited - not sure how many are going of the top of my head, I will have to come back to you on that one!
I'm up for just going with the flow too, knowing me it will be a kebab on a park bench at midnight - yum yum.
Patsy 12-08-2005, 05:13 PM I just hope there isn't a club near that park bench.
I just hope there isn't a club near that park bench.
Patsy! bring your ghetto blaster - the one with the wide multi coloured fabric strap. You can break dance for our entertainment as we munch the Doner at midnight.
Patsy 12-08-2005, 05:51 PM We'll be accosting the locals and making an fine impression wherever we go, that's for sure. You know what we're like. :wink2:
Dolores 12-08-2005, 05:58 PM Patsy! bring your ghetto blaster - the one with the wide multi coloured fabric strap. You can break dance for our entertainment as we munch the Doner at midnight.
Im praying that "munch the Donner" isn't a euphemism!
Patsy 12-08-2005, 06:03 PM It is not, Dol. Although Cat has tried to munch on a carpet. That is also not a euphamism either.
Dolores 14-08-2005, 09:40 PM Catherine ... when are you going to start your countdownto Dublin thread? I love looking at your inventive pictures!
msgirl 14-08-2005, 09:44 PM Dol, didn't I read you also do a London SO meet??
Dolores 14-08-2005, 09:50 PM I did indeed do a couple of London meets Msg! most enjoyable they were too. Unfortunately I wont be able to make the Dublin meet ... I just like to keep an eye on the Dubliners meet!!

Aondeag 16-08-2005, 09:55 AM Hi Y'all...
For anyone heading over to the Sticky Dublin meet.I can give a list of places I like to eat in (when I can afford to eat out!) and praps some of the others can rate them as well.
I hate being ripped off, but I like fancy places, so I tend to stick to the same places.
'Topolis'...(Italian) and 'Yamoori' (Japanese) and Condotti and Steps of Rome are my faves. And Eliza blue...and Peploe's..when i have a few spare punts!
and 'Odessa' for brunchy type things.....
What sort of food does everyone like?
Praps some of the other's will have other suggestions too.
OH..the STEPS of Rome...squashed and tiny but YUM.
(and cheap!)
Bella 16-08-2005, 10:00 AM Thanks for the info, Aondeag! Are you planning to meet up with us in October? It would be great to see you! :)
Tigereye 16-08-2005, 10:52 AM Ooohh Yamamori noodles - scrummy. And Peploe's is the bizzo. Quite dear though AD - lunch there recently cost E70 for two, and that was without really attacking the impressive wine list. I was thinking more of ribs and burgers in The Porter House!!
I think there probably wouldn't be time for a proper sit down chow on the Friday night anyway, as we'll only be starting the blithering, gossing and serious guinness quaffing around the 8.30 mark, but if peeps want to blow out on the Saturday, there's a plethora of reasonable priced places to choose from. Steps of Rome might be a runner, as even those who don't like exotic food would probably eat lasagne, pizzas, pasta etc.

If peeps are doing their own thang on the sat, maybe we could meet up in a restaurant instead of a bar on the sat. Sure, we'll go with the flow otherwise.
Bella 16-08-2005, 11:06 AM Flip & I arrive about 9am on the Friday morning, so we could even check out some of the above for lunch!!
Did you mention a comedy club or something for the Saturday TE?
I am happy to do anything though just as long as I am fed, watered and in good company!
Tigereye 16-08-2005, 11:23 AM Yeh, the comedy club was an idea alright, as we went to one on the Edinburgh meet, and the london one, and they were great craic, but it does mean you have to sit there and be quiet - HAH, QUIET, US?!!
even if we go to a live music gig we can still blither and goss and such, so I kinda put the comedy thang on the back burner. But I think there are late night ones too, and if some peeps wanna do it then, when the sensible people are heading for the bed [hmmm, sensible people? - does not compute:ohmy: ] we can arrange for that to happen.
It seems that some peeps wanna partay in the pub for the duration [yes, me 'n urk included ] and others want to get out and about [wanna do that as well ] so we may end up splitting up into groups as we did in Edinburgh so we all get what we want from the weekend.
I will find out anything I can about peoples requirements and post replies here, and then bring any further idea's and details and stuff to the meet on Friday.
Awl Rightie?
te
Aondeag 16-08-2005, 12:02 PM OOOH it's shaping up to be very good!
There is a slim chance I will be Dublin that Friday nite only, so if I am brave I mite plonk myself on a bar stool and watch from a safe distance. :-))
Gawd TE...70 squid for two in Peploes'.....
think I'll be avoiding that till Christmas Party time or the like.
What about that new (or relocated?) pancake place? 'Lemon'?
That mite be nice for a hangover breakfast type place.
mmmmm i love food!

Secrets, if there is a bar there then I am in. I have been a couple of times - we have Huntingdon and Towcester local to here but havn't been for ages.
Brother is here and he has just said he has been to Racing in Dublin Secrets so that must be the one...I'm in if you are.
Check out the meet Paul.
secrets 24-08-2005, 09:42 PM Okey dokey.
There is a meeting at Fairyhouse that saturday.
Just need to work out how far that is away from Dublin and travel arrangements/cost etc.
Any ideas Tigereye?
secrets 24-08-2005, 10:03 PM Tickets are available from the racecourse website they are 12 euros each.
It is fifteen miles from Dublin city centre.
secrets 25-08-2005, 05:51 PM I like the look of the Panoramic restaurant.
Reserved table with 4 course silver service lunch, full bar, and tote facilities.
I am thinking that we have to eat, and it doesn't matter what the weather is like?
With a bar, and toilets, and the opportunity to have a bet, it seems a good idea?
http://www.fairyhouseracecourse.ie/subpage.php?pgtype=sponsorship&pg=sponsorship2
I still like the idea of the racing secrets but not up to a sit down meal during the day, would rather grab a sarnie during the day and eat later.
Tigereye 26-08-2005, 03:11 PM apologies for not being round lads - had the accountants in [not me personally you understand - I'm not that supple] so missed the last few posts.
Leopardstown is just up the road from me [my gym is in that complex too - I seem to go racing more than exercising tho'] but as secrets found out { !!] the meeting is a Fairyhouse, which is a fair trek...think you can get coaches on the quays to bring you direct...the all in / all day package [means you keep a nice table all day and a good meal] is ST£25, which doesn't sound bad for a full day out.......
Aondeag - are you not coming? Go on, go on, go on,............
Aondeag 26-08-2005, 03:18 PM Hi TE..well....I'm away that weekend..sulk ...BUT my people are in frantic negotiations at the mo and I'm hoping to 'stick me ceann around the doras' on the Friday night.I really am.
It sounds like it will be brilliant.I'd actually love to go to the races too..I'm a bit of a fan.
What pub on friday night..does anyone know yet?
I'm assuming there will be only one and it will be a nice sedate affair.

TE, whats a fair trek? I'm really liking the idea of this.
EDIT: Just looked myself - 15 miles and they do put on extra transport form Dublin.
Patsy 27-08-2005, 01:27 PM I think this sounds like a great idea, even though I was originally going for the "lets not organise anything and go with the flow" option. I think this is a good middle option because it's something organised-ish, but also entertaining and drinking at the races is a helluva lot more interesting than drinking in a pub all day.

You are wicked. Doesnt matter anyway because when you've drank too much you'll pee anywhere (or is that just me  )
TE, do you know how far we have to book in advance for the racing?
Fee For All 28-08-2005, 05:47 PM Won't it exclude any late-comers if we have to book too far in advance? I love racing, but I'd prefer not to have to make arrangements in advance. Can't we just turn up on the day?

This is just what I was wondering FFA - we need to keep that late comer option open don't we. Who knows a 6ft, 28 year old German, with ready wit and quick repartee (which would be especially suprising in a German) and hung like a donkey could join the forum and decide to come with us any day couldn't he.
Who are you hoping for Fee, you can't have my german.
Bella 28-08-2005, 05:52 PM I am sure you can Fee, there is a race-track near me and you don't have to book just turn up. I am not a fan of horse-racing at all, but I think this might be fun! The other thing is..................(sorry to be boring) the weather! If it is peeing down, it maybe cancelled but really I wouldn't fancy standing about in the rain if it was still on. However, if the sun is shining it should be quite a good laugh and as Patsy says it beats sitting in a pub all day.
Fee For All 28-08-2005, 06:02 PM I don't care Cat. As long as they are fit.
Aber weil Ich ein bisschen Deutsch habe, vielleicht sollte Ich den Deutschen haben??
Du kannst den Minger haben.:smartie:
Patsy 28-08-2005, 06:03 PM She's not fussy, Fee, just grateful these days.

Is it a all day thing?
As to be honest I don't want to spend the only full day we have in Dublin at a racetrack.

YUP...the styx....the thoroughbred county, that's where I live at the mo.
s'nice.
Sounds like a fair auld crowd is scheduled for the sticky Dublin meet..
 What will they say when they hear you have to pay for bags in shops...15 cents!
Tigereye 29-08-2005, 03:51 PM Bejaysus AD - If that's the only thing that shocks them over here we'll be doing alright!!
wait 'til they pay for a pint:shocking: !
Bella 29-08-2005, 04:35 PM Do I need to raid my kid's piggy bank before I come over then? :w00t:
Certainly will Bella, it's a bit pricey. You will have to bring some of your jewellery and can sell it where ever we go.....its my plan that with Secrets expertise we might win some money at the horses.
Either that or I will steal your wears and sell them myself.
Sounds like a fair auld crowd is scheduled for the sticky Dublin meet..

£4.00!!! I thought Edinburgh was expensive! Although there is a wee cafe in the High Street where they charge £24 for a cup of tea!!!! :shocking: Beat that!
Tigereye 31-08-2005, 12:28 PM blimey secrets thats a bit steep!!
And Bella - whats that all about?
Is the tea some kind of magic brew?:shocking:
secrets, the pints vary greatly from pub to pub. In me local it's about e4.20 but spirals into the great abyss of ripoffdom the closer to temple bar you go. The price also increases with time at the same rate as your drunkeness and inability to complain - b'stards.
bring hip flasks and duty free!!!
Aondeag 31-08-2005, 12:43 PM Hee..it's only 4:00 euro in (one of) my local...but even then, it's a bit much.
As the great eddie hobbs says.....HAGGLE.
Hey there TE...do you think somewhere like SamSara is ok to reccommend, for a coff during the day or a cocktail?
Or is it a bit poncey?
It's nice and handy as regards location, especially if anyone is going to do somethng cultural, like gawp at the fab jewellery in the national museum.
Or the viking splash etc.
I would'nt like to send the SO's anywhere poncy, but I must admit I DOOO like the nasty decadent decor there.
Hmmmm

Lol TE!! It's supposed to be some kind of Japanese blend that is extremely rare! They don't even throw in free shortbread!!
Expensive tea! (http://news.scotsman.com/archive.cfm?id=1791342005)
I'll have to look out my old soda-stream bottle!
do you think somewhere like SamSara is ok to reccommend, for a coff during the day or a cocktail?
SamSara - gotta be good I wear it daily [perfume]!!
But I still don't understand the Euro's - how much is a Euro. Ok if I went to a bank and said "I want to buy one Euro please" - how much would it cost me??

Oh flip, thank goodness for you - I havn't got a clue either. What was wrong with the punt then? I went to ask for some Euro's ealier in the bank "hello, I'd like to buy some Euro's please" I was going to say...but then chickened out as she would have then said "how many would you like".... This is where I would have turned and run out of the bank.
At the post office the rate of exchange is 1.3939 euros per pound...
So £100 will get you 139.39 euros
secrets 31-08-2005, 05:14 PM The Euro was worth 0.71p last week when i bought some.
No exchange charges at the Post Office.
I asked for £100.00 worth and they rounded it up a little and gave me 145 Euros for £102.50 i think it was.
I'll see what i get this week when i get some more.
What about a car boot sunday morning?
Bella 31-08-2005, 05:40 PM Anyone want some sparkly jewellery for Dublin - better hurry before I increase the prices!!! :shocking: :w00t:
I forgot about the Euro thingy, that's one more thing to put on my "to do" list before Dublin!
Patsy 31-08-2005, 10:32 PM What about a car boot sunday morning?
Only if you want to be shoved in it.

Can we not do that to Cat anyway? :whistling :whistling
Coastie 02-09-2005, 05:14 AM Anyone know the best way (i.e. cheapest) to get from the airport to the Millenium Tower hotel?
(gosh look at me getting all pratical all of a sudden!)
Tigereye 02-09-2005, 10:06 AM Coastie babe - the bestest / cheapest way to get into dublin is the air coach.
It's depot is situated straight opposite the door of the airport [departure level]. It's blue. and comfy. and costs e10 / ST£8 [or it may have gone up to e12 by now] for a return journey, and leaves you on O'Connell Street. It has a little telly / commentary thingy going on so you should be alerted, but ask the driver to tell you when you're at your closest stop.
Millennium tower is only a few minutes walk from the bus stop. The coaches run every 15/20 mins. The journey, depending on what time your flight gets in, takes between 20 / 40 mins.
next?
Bella 02-09-2005, 10:16 AM Thanks for that TE! What time does everyone arrive? Flip & I arrive within about 5 minutes of each other, anyone else arriving around 9am?!
The good thing about Dublin is that there is just the one journey. London was a bit of faffing around with getting the flight, then the train (that cost as much as the flight), then a taxi! Next time I'll just take the train right into Kings Cross, much easier!
I had a bit of panic attack yesterday, you know that feeling of dread when you just think that something just isn't right.....well I thought that the apartments hadn't been booked. I couldn't remember getting confirmation and I couldn't remember anything coming off my credit card statement. When we had probs with the OC all the emails were lost, so I couldn't confirm there and we mislaid one of our statements, you can guess what one! To be honest to myself I sort of realised this a wee while ago but it was just yesterday that I decided to actually do something!!! God, how unreliable am I?
I emailed Late-Bookings or whoever it was and got a lovely email back from Mags who confirmed my booking, sent me a new statement of confirmation and hoped that I enjoyed my break! Boy, was I relieved!? So Flip and I do have a bed for the weekend! Hallelujah!
To top all that, I thought I may have to pull out as Mr B starts his Southampton stint on October 3rd and at first it was going to be Tues-Friday and work from home Monday, but it is now Mon-Thurs and home on Friday. A few of the mums said they would have helped out but I am sure if they would appreciate getting 2 kids dumped on them at 7am in the morning and keep hold of them until Mr B got home!
Panic over! :w00t:
So have we round up any latecomers there is still time you know, Dol, Max, Bridge, Bonny, Critique, Maz...............c'mon, c'mon!!
Bella, i will be arriving at approx 11.30, can't remember exact time but ILS will probably know! Ils and fee arrive about 20 mins earlier than me and we are going to make our way to MT together.
TE how much would a taxi be as there are three of us, if less than 30euro bonus!
And yes more people please! I will echo what bella said. you people who think you have better things to do- actually you don't. So come to Dublin :w00t:
Actually out of interest what is everyones ETA? Could people copy and paste this so we have them all together:
Cat/Buzz/Patsy ETA Dublin Airport 5pm
Bella 02-09-2005, 06:07 PM And forgive me if I have missed your name off, I just plucked them at random. I know there are more, Andrea, SF, PJ, Blink, in fact everyone. If your name isn't mentioned it doesn't mean you are not wanted. Your SO friends need you!
There is still space in mine & Flip's apartment, so sign up TODAY! :)
Patsy 02-09-2005, 07:28 PM I think you might find Buzz knocking on your door to escape Cat's and my snoring, Bella!
Actually, I'm being kind..... save the space for me........
ALRIGHT! So I snore..there are worse things you could do.
Bella, take them both - I don't care....more room at base camp for me :naughty:
Bella 02-09-2005, 07:36 PM Could be worse, they could fart.................they do that too, don't they..................
Flip is the perfect room-mate, I don't recall her snoring when we shared a room in London! ;)
oooh, Cat are you planning on testing out the Dublineers and giving them ratings out of 10!? :bag:

Bella 05-09-2005, 03:32 PM I'm not sure what you mean Bella?
Well with you getting rid of Buzz & Patsy you posted that there will be room for you at base camp with the :naughty: smillie.........I put 2 + 2 together and have come up with 10! Apologies for getting hold of the wrong end of the stick, I never had you down as a shameless hussy anyway Cat, not after I saw the pictures of your wearing your wimple! :w00t:
Actually Bella, it will be good to have a room of my own so I can hoard all my cash that I am going to be winning at the races :w00t: Don't want that theiving pair getting their hands on my loot.
