View Full Version : Dublin SO Meet - October 21st- 23rd 2005 Coastie 08-09-2005, 09:31 PM Yes...on 4 at the moment, can't decide. Go for the one that covers most of your face! :w00t: :bag: Cat 09-09-2005, 06:26 AM That would be this one then.. http://i12.ebayimg.com/02/i/04/db/89/40_2.JPG ..but I don't think it's very elegant, I bet flips got loads of plummage going on. I will take this one incase there is a blizzard. Cat 09-09-2005, 07:28 PM Right! Now that I've got friday night and saturday DAY sorted....whats going on Saturday night. For those not racing we need a meeting place.....TE, ILS...any suggestions...Mr Cat was saying that a friend of his goes to the Comedy Store in London as says its very good. So ....Saturday night peeps....whats it to be???????????? Patsy 09-09-2005, 07:31 PM I went to the Laughter Lounge once and found that you had to be Irish to understand the meaning of most of the jokes. You can drink at your seat though, which was nice. There's an old hotel nearby with a bar downstairs that has diddly diddly music, from what I can remember. Cat 09-09-2005, 07:33 PM I have bought a rather lovely green frilly blouse for saturday so I want to go somewhere quite nice - will be wearing with jeans though. Patsy 09-09-2005, 07:35 PM I don't want to go anywhere that you have to pay to get in. The beer prices are bad enough. Flip 09-09-2005, 07:36 PM I bet flips got loads of plummage going on. I. Oh yes young Cat - my plummage is very tit shaped, and it doubles up in storm weather as a cosy little hat!!! Quite honestly it covers all eventualities - so just the one for me!! A comedy club sounds to me like the bees knees and I know that TE and Urk love a little giggle now and then ... tonee 09-09-2005, 07:37 PM The International Bar has comedy upstairs which is quite good. Pity you are all leaving on Sunday, as The George has transvestite Bingo - now that is seriously entertaining! Flip 09-09-2005, 07:51 PM transvestite Bingo - now that is seriously entertaining! That is it - I want to play transvestite BINGO!! tonee 09-09-2005, 07:54 PM That is it - I want to play transvestite BINGO!! sunday evening if you are around! Bella 09-09-2005, 08:22 PM I don't care where we go as long as I get fed, I can't wait to taste the kebabs from that Abrakebabra place!! :eat: secrets 09-09-2005, 09:12 PM What about a car boot sunday morning? The best car boot is at...... ..... Fairyhouse racecourse.:smartie: Cat 15-09-2005, 06:21 PM Secrets, have you heard anything back for the racecourse yet? Might try ringing them direct. What you recon stripey pants. secrets 16-09-2005, 05:25 PM Not a dicky bird Cat, and that thought had crossed my mind too. I would rather know where we stood before we arrived. Cat 16-09-2005, 05:35 PM Indeed, my hat has arrived today so things need to be sorted. Dolores 16-09-2005, 05:36 PM Indeed, my hat has arrived today so things need to be sorted. picture please! for us lesser mortals who aren't able to go. thank you kindly! Cat 16-09-2005, 05:50 PM picture please! for us lesser mortals who aren't able to go. thank you kindly! Its this one.. http://i18.ebayimg.com/03/i/04/d6/27/59_2.JPG I'm a little disappointed actually as though the top is a nice a suede the underside is man made suede effect in a darker brown, the sides are best worn up more than shown so the manmade material has more show than the real suede. I dont' know wether this is a faux par, flip will know...Flip is this a faux par?? It does look good on though, just cheap. Cat 16-09-2005, 07:12 PM Does any one know the code for Ireland? Trying to phone the race course. Bella 16-09-2005, 07:36 PM Fairyhouse racecourse (http://www.fairyhouseracecourse.ie/subpage.php?pgtype=contactus&pg=contactus1) There you go Secrets, it has a "contact us" page and a phone number at the bottom. I would do it but don't want to step on anyone's toes since it was your idea! :w00t: How many are going to the horses on the Saturday anyway? Patsy 16-09-2005, 07:41 PM http://i18.ebayimg.com/03/i/04/d6/27/59_2.JPG It does look good on though, just cheap. That's fine. It will go with my 99p suede effect jacket. http://i3.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/ec/ba/dd_1_b.JPG[/QUOTE] Now Flipster, about those boots.............. Cat 16-09-2005, 07:41 PM Bella....I keep trying that number but just can't get thru..what do you dial from UK - I'm crap at codes. So far Me, Patsy, Buzz and Secrets are definates for a table and any others who care to join. Tables are £25 + entrance. Bella 16-09-2005, 07:58 PM Sorry Cat can't help you with the code! I am not sure about the racing yet, but it's a definite maybe! Patsy 16-09-2005, 08:04 PM Dublin - 00 353 then the number (if the number starts with a 0, drop it). Cat 16-09-2005, 09:04 PM I can't do it. Will try again tomorrow . boo Patsy 17-09-2005, 07:50 AM Does everyone know what they're wearing in Dublin yet? In celebration of our recent purchases, I shall start a new thread later where we can show and tell. Would you like that? :w00t: Bella 17-09-2005, 08:32 AM Does everyone know what they're wearing in Dublin yet? In celebration of our recent purchases, I shall start a new thread later where we can show and tell. Would you like that? :w00t: Yes I do!! How sad am I? In fact there is one item I am not too sure about as it is a bit dressy but I love it and I hardly ever get the chance to wear it! It is my bustier top that I got chosen for me by my personal shopper and it goes fabby with my new skirt that I got from e-bay during the week. I even treated myself to a raw silk scarf to drape over my shoulders. I'll post a piccie later and you can let me know if it is too dressy or not! Patsy 17-09-2005, 08:44 AM Take a pic and show it off, my love. :w00t: Edit: I've created the thread now. Off you go! Bella 17-09-2005, 08:52 AM It's all on the offical thread! Cat 17-09-2005, 04:51 PM The number to dial is 00353 1825 6167..I have just got through...to an answer phone. Did leave a garbled message so will try again during the week. Unfortunately, the restaurant is booked up completely with a big corporate 'do' so their usual 4 course meal, table for the day offer thingie is not on offer for sat 23rd. however, they do have a small number of suites they can let us have one if there's enough of us. These usually cost the earth, but she'll do us a deal for e50 a head - ST£35 - which is admission, the suite for the day and a 4 course lunch. I know it sounds pricey, with gargle and betting on top etc, but it could be a 'reet day owt' as they say.......... she's emailing me more info, but she can only give me the next few days before she offers the suites out at normal price etc. They also want a non-refundable deposit to secure it, but I can put that on my credit card....... The alternative is just to pop on a bus, pay the e12 entrance, get there early and grab a table at the bar, and eat sambos and chips ? thoughts? te, coming up on the inside, steading now before jumping the fourth, lands well, and pulls ahead of Urk by a nose................. secrets 19-09-2005, 05:24 PM WELL DONE SECRETS = If I get to go racing I'm sitting beside you, right? Just had a long phonecall with a nice lady called Niamh in Fairyhouse. It's not pricey though is it? The Panoramic restaraunt with four course meal and table is 38 Euro's without entrance fee - which is 12 Euro's. Total 50 Euros!! How many do we need? Cat 19-09-2005, 07:50 PM Well done Tiger for getting the details, I did eventually get through to an answer phone. But I must say I'm not keen on the suite thing, I would rather pay the entrance and wonder round freely in that case and blow the money I would have spent on a horse. Buzz 19-09-2005, 08:22 PM I have to echo Cat's thoughts on this. I think the atmosphere will be better in the bar, and peeps can eat and drink at their leisure... Patsy 19-09-2005, 08:29 PM Ditto. :bye: Tigereye 20-09-2005, 02:31 PM righty - ho!! Anyway, we may be able to sneak into the corporate 'do' mid-afternoon when they're all smashed and don't give a flying **** 'cos their company is paying not them and the boss is a b'stard 'cos he ignored my reports and gave all the credit to Sean from the Cork Branch, and of course you can eat what you like from the buffet, they'll only bin the stuff and the drink is free for another 2 hours - you lot order what you want - serves them right the tight fekkers - d'ya know not a decent bonus to any of us last christmas - you guys eat drink and be merry on us !!!!....... They are organising a bus service from Busáras Station. It costs €13.00 return and leaves 1 1/2 hours before the first race, and returns fairly sharpish after the last one. The race card is being finalised today, with first printing at the weekend, but she's fairly sure the first race is at 1.00 or 1.15 p.m., with the last one three hours later. This means getting out of beddybies, wash and brush up, and brekky to be finished by 11.15 a.m. to get to the station on time. Busáras Station is about 10 mins walk [max] from Millennium Tower...... love, Tiger and Niamh [urk's getting jealous] Patsy 22-09-2005, 11:54 AM You're a marvellous woman and no mistake. Put me down for that one. Buzz 22-09-2005, 02:44 PM I think I should like a ticket for the bus please Tiggs..... Tigereye 23-09-2005, 10:46 AM be careful tho, you might attract the wrong kind of attention from our native elephants! Niamh Darling is seeing what she can do about booking seats on a coach, but no joy as yet.....seems it's first come first served  Coastie 24-09-2005, 08:26 PM Inspired by Tonee...this shall be the official Dublin song so get practicing people! I can vouch for that. Download this song for practice - luke kelly or the pogues are both great. Dolores 25-09-2005, 10:37 AM ya buy dem on da day at da station...... oh dear Tigereye I think you've set yourself up as their mummy for the weekend ... be sure to take plenty of tissues to wipe their noses with and make sure they go to the toilet before they get on the bus!!!! Coastie 25-09-2005, 07:48 PM Right please clarify for someone who is fast losing track of all that is going on during the Dublin weekend.... Is everyone going to the races? (I can just tell mama Coastie she has no choice!) :naughty: When will I get to sing along to live music and drink huge amounts of guiness? Coastie's mate isn't coming...she's off to babysit her brothers two sons and their dog whilst he and the mrs go off on holiday for a week! Patsy 25-09-2005, 07:56 PM We're not going to the races any more Coastie. Did no-one tell you? We're now planning to hike along the coast with the local Salvation Army. There will be no drinking of Guinness because, coincidentally, it's National Non-Drinking Guinness weekend. Would you credit it, eh! Coastie 25-09-2005, 08:09 PM We're not going to the races any more Coastie. Did no-one tell you? We're now planning to hike along the coast with the local Salvation Army. Coastie 26-09-2005, 12:13 AM Oooo can we play people! (excellent Secrets...oh what a sing song could be had by all!) Aondeag 26-09-2005, 10:01 AM Well...if we're singing songs drunkedly...i'm cancelling ALL my ungettable outofable plans for that weekend in favour of 'youse lot'. 'Dirty old town.... 'black velvet band'... 'irish rover'... woo hoo! Bring it on! hic! Patsy 26-09-2005, 10:04 AM Yay! This is exactly what we need. Someone to lead us in song. Could you print up song sheets for all the traditional classics please? In large print to make it easier to read through beer goggles. Aondeag 26-09-2005, 10:06 AM That is a brilliant idea! watch this space. oooooh excitement! Cat 26-09-2005, 04:14 PM This sounds like fun? http://www.discoverdublin.ie/musicalpubcrawl.html 12 Euro's a head. My only concern here is that not one of the people in the advert has a drink in their hands. Patsy 26-09-2005, 04:57 PM I have two concerns. One, I am not interested in the origins of the music, just listening to and enjoying it if I like it. Two, I might get to a particular pub, settle in, pull, then have to leave and go onto the next one in the crawl. I think we just go to "where the music takes us". I used to like Neil Sedaka. Looked a bit like Bob Monkhouse. Bella 26-09-2005, 05:15 PM Oh, I am not into pub crawls. I prefer to find a place and stay. Pub crawls are too much like a 18-30, let's see who can get the drunkest, lets see who can get off with the guide. Might be a party pooper but not really my idea of a good night, plus it might be peeing down and having to totter around from pub to pub in heels, queing to get in and you might end up with a bunch of people you really don't know and don't want to be with! Plus, I have been thrown out of many a pub in Edinburgh for singing, don't want the same to happen in Dublin! :ninja: Buzz 26-09-2005, 05:51 PM We're not going to the races any more Coastie. Did no-one tell you? We're now planning to hike along the coast with the local Salvation Army. There will be no drinking of Guinness because, coincidentally, it's National Non-Drinking Guinness weekend. Would you credit it, eh! Clarifiy please. Are we going racing or not? cos I am very confused now! Dolores 26-09-2005, 05:55 PM We're not going to the races any more Coastie. Did no-one tell you? We're now planning to hike along the coast with the local Salvation Army. There will be no drinking of Guinness because, coincidentally, it's National Non-Drinking Guinness weekend. Would you credit it, eh! Stop it Patsy! you are teasing poor old Buzz, I can see she is all a dither not knowing what is true and what's not! bless her. psst has anyone told her the meet's in Limerick now? Tigereye 27-09-2005, 02:32 PM naughty naughty dol!! [Please change your mind and come ] Nice idea Secrets - I had thought of organising something like that on the Saturday night alright, but as some peeps have pointed out it could be lashing down, don't know how many others would be on the crawl, the pubs might be jammers and you'd just be getting your pint and you'd be off again...It's hard to know what to do..... Everyone seems alriight with just meeting up on the Friday night - venue to be arranged [me 'n' urk are arguing between posh spacious hotel lounge or Friday night after work atmosphere pub so all opinions welcome ] and just eat and drink and blither until we feel like stopping, fall over or get arrested..... and on saturday the committed gamblers will be racing, some will be sightseeing, some shopping, Flip will be drooling over shoes, Bella will be drooling over beads in the designer craft shops, Fee will be done for shoplifting in Brown Thomas and me'urk and ils and anyone else with a tither of wit will be getting squiffy somewhere somehow...... So saturday night [suppose we better eat at some stage  ] can be either an organised entertainment, a meal, maybe some live music or just all meet up again in a boozer to discuss how our day went, and eat and drink and blither until we feel like stopping, fall over or get arrested....... [anyone ever see Groundhog Day?......] So basically lads agus lassies - I'll organise as much as yez want or as little as yez want - So Come On - Whaddayaz bleedin' want?!! Patsy 27-09-2005, 02:37 PM Pub crawls are too much like a 18-30, let's see who can get the drunkest, lets see who can get off with the guide. And your problem is...............? Patsy 27-09-2005, 02:44 PM It might be a good idea to have a set place for everyone to converge on to on Sat eve, TE. We will have hopefully exchanged mobile numbers on the Friday night, so will be able to keep in touch that way. I'm up for live entertainment of some sort, but doesn't have to be anything more than a bit of diddly diddly in a pub with snack food if required. Bella 27-09-2005, 02:49 PM And your problem is...............? 1. That I am not aged between 18-30 2. That I am meeting up with enough nutters as it is that weekend and to throw some other complete strangers (probably a hen party or a stag party) just would be too much for me. 3. The fact that I am not aged between 18-30, don't have big knockers, don't have a cleavage, naval piercing, tongue piercing, long blonde hair to flash at guide means that I won't be copping off with him! 4. I don't do sick! I am old Patsy, I am good fun but I do like to have a seat! :) That enough for you, sweetness. Flip 27-09-2005, 02:54 PM It might be a good idea to have a set place for everyone to converge on to on Sat eve, TE. I'm up for live entertainment of some sort, but doesn't have to be anything more than a bit of diddly diddly in a pub with snack food if required. I think that is a good idea - a sort of rendevous point from 6pm onwards, that has food, drink and possibly a bit of entertainment of the comedy sort or music or dancing or anything really - but it has to have a seat for Bella though!!:wink_kiss Fee For All 27-09-2005, 02:57 PM naughty naughty dol!! Please change your mind and come  Nice idea Secrets - I had thought of organising something like that on the Saturday night alright, but as some peeps have pointed out it could be lashing down, don't know how many others would be on the crawl, the pubs might be jammers and you'd just be getting your pint and you'd be off again...It's hard to know what to do..... So basically lads agus lassies - I'll organise as much as yez want or as little as yez want - So Come On - Whaddayaz bleedin' want?!! TE that sounds just perfect. My plan is to throw a change of clothes in a bag the night before we leave, with some euros, toothbrush and alka seltzer and then just do as the mood takes me, as long as I have plenty time to blether with all you nice SO folks  Bella 27-09-2005, 02:58 PM I'll bring my wheelchair!! In fact if it has a dance-floor I'll be on there all night providing the music is good! I am sorry, I sound like a right party-pooper, which I am not honest. I'll be totally happy with whatever we do as long as we have good food, good drink, and fun! :D The company is already perfect! Bella 27-09-2005, 03:06 PM Everyone seems alriight with just meeting up on the Friday night - venue to be arranged [me 'n' urk are arguing between posh spacious hotel lounge or Friday night after work atmosphere pub so all opinions welcome ] and just eat and drink and blither until we feel like stopping, fall over or get arrested..... Sounds like a fab idea, TE! Flip & I arrive in Dublin in time for breakfast so have all day to explore, posh, work atmosphere........anywhere really I am sure us lot will fit in well anywhere! As Pats says we can exchange mobile numbers etc for arrangements on the Saturday but Friday is a "getting to know you" night! Oooh, I can't wait!! :D :w00t: Tigereye 27-09-2005, 03:11 PM Pats the October Music Guide thingie is out this week - that will help with sorting out the venue for sat night......but regulars are: Upstairs in the Oliver St John Gogarty has live music every saturday night - might be a runner. The Porter House has music but also has a few different levels so if you wanted a chat you can sort of get away from music a bit too...it also does reasonably priced and tasty barfood....[and some mega micro brewery beers - oyster guinness is yummy]..so it could be the one... There's two bars just at Millenium Bridge that do amazing tapas and wine, and live / recorded [depending on the night] latin music, which is great for a bop... Far as I know all are free. Later on that night for anyone still rearing to go there's the Gaeity Theatre- about 15 mins walk from Temple Bar at the top of Grafton Street - which has live bands on three levels - all different types of music, a cinema and a couple of chillax [irish slang for chilling and relaxing at the same time - national pastime:cool: ] bars.....starts at 11.30 p.m. and costs about £10. ils 27-09-2005, 05:17 PM Everyone seems alright with just meeting up on the Friday night - venue to be arranged [me 'n' urk are arguing between posh spacious hotel lounge or Friday night after work atmosphere pub so all opinions welcome ] and just eat and drink and blither until we feel like stopping, fall over or get arrested..... Either sounds great to me, TE on saturday me 'urk and ils and anyone else with a tither of wit will be getting squiffy somewhere somehow...... Sounds even better :drinking: saturday night [suppose we better eat at some stage ] can be either an organised entertainment, a meal, maybe some live music or just all meet up again in a boozer to discuss how our day went, and eat and drink and blither until we feel like stopping, fall over or get arrested ....... Patsy's idea It might be a good idea to have a set place for everyone to converge on to on Sat eve. I'm up for live entertainment of some sort, but doesn't have to be anything more than a bit of diddly diddly in a pub with snack food if required Sounds good to me, so I vote for meeting up in a boozer at a set time (say an hour after the gamblers get back from the races) and then going where the music takes us! The Porter House has music but also has a few different levels so if you wanted a chat you can sort of get away from music a bit too...it also does reasonably priced and tasty barfood....[and some mega micro brewery beers - oyster guinness is yummy]..so it could be the one... I quite like the sound of this place  So basically lads agus lassies - I'll organise as much as yez want or as little as yez want - So Come On - Whaddayaz bleedin' want?!! What I want is for you to tell us where (name of pub) & when (what time you want us there) and then we can take it from there and just do what we feel like at the time, so imo the less organised it is the better! ...... Does that answer your bleedin' question TE? :wink_kiss Cat 27-09-2005, 05:19 PM I would always plump for the friday night after work pub, TE you could get there about 10am and bag the tables. :wink_kiss Cat 27-09-2005, 05:23 PM Sounds good to me, so I vote for meeting up in a boozer at a set time (say an hour after the gamblers get back from the races) and then going where the music takes us! This idea gets my vote...keep options open...we could met in a boozer with full intention of moving on, but if that boozer is swinging - why move. Options open with a few suggestions thrown on the table when the time arrives. Patsy 27-09-2005, 06:26 PM 1. That I am not aged between 18-30 2. Aondeag 17-10-2005, 12:18 PM The 'Viking Splash' is different to an ordinary 'hop on hop off' bus tour. It's more racous...and you can yell and holler and you get to wear a silly hat.Just sit on the inside seat, or put a small child between you and the rail and you wont' get tooooooooooooo wet on the Viking Splash. :-) Tigereye 17-10-2005, 02:19 PM Righty - ho!! The manager in Gogarty's said he couldn't hold tables / seats for us on the Friday they are mad busy and it's bedlam there at teatime, but upstairs on the saturday evening is quite quiet until quite late, so we may use it then. But the nice people in The Brazen Head said if we could get there early - ish, say 6 p.m. he would reserve three tables in the bar for us. So I was thinking [me and urk have to work so we can't get into town much earlier than that on the friday anyway] we'd either meet up earlier in Zanzibar [ a HUGE pub round the corner from the MT] at 5 and we'd walk yez up the quays at 6p.m., or just head straight there for six..... anyhoo - here's some info on our illustrious meeting place!!! But would have to have got up and at it to get the boys off and delivered. Will dash home, Patsy should be here waiting for me (do you think it's wise, I am leaving her a key in a secret place so she can let her self in), I should be home by 12.15 - change of outfit, wet wipes ahoy as no time for a shower, and hopefully at the Buzzmeisters by 1pm. Bedford station 1.15pm...train to luton - lots of them so should be at Luton airport by 2pm.....quick peruse round the shops as it has apparently changed in the 4 years that I was last there. A swift 8 pints in the bar and board at 4pm........carry on drinking onboard, not fightened at all.....17 bloody mary's later (only drink these on planes as love the peanuts), land in Dublin. Can just about see my way down the plane steps...Pats and I drag a comatose Buzz in a sheet across the tarmac, where we wait for luggage. Pats collapses....decide to leave them both wizzing round on the luggage conveyerbelt and get the bus on my own to The Brazen Head. See you there  Cat 20-10-2005, 07:44 PM So folks, looks like I won't be able to make it this weekend. It was just too difficult to plan while trying to find a job and a place to live.
