On friday after pre school we took a small boy to the bike shop. It is an unusual bikeshop as it is in a village, like a village shop. In we went and he grabbed the red 16 inch wheeler. Perfect. Invited to try it for size he hid behind Dizzy, then me, finally OI pretended to get on and the old courage came on. He was still hesitant until we realised he wanted to be lifted on. Once on he was off. It went perfectly and the grin could not be bigger. It was ridden up and down the lane outside and then taken home.
No matter how old or difficult he gets I will always remember that first red bike we got him. It is a Giant animator, with two breaks, reflectors and a bell.
Nothing is more wonderful than that sort of simple pleasure.
