Yet again, we have been to the A&E with Jamie this evening. He decided that he should swallow a golf club. Actually, he was running around with a plastic golf club and had unscrewed the putt bit off and had just the plastic stick. He had it in his mouth (which I was not aware of) and he fell over and it rammed down the back of his throat. He now has a gaping hole which bled profusely, as all mouth injuries tend to. We had three doctors look at him, including an oral surgeon. They want to leave it for right now, but we have to take him back on Thursday just to make sure it is heading in the right direction. He is in a lot of pain but is still energetic. They have put him on antibiotics.

Jamie seems to be my accident kid. :)

Poor Jamie! I also winced reading this!
He sounds a bit like me when I was a wee boy! Hope he's ok soon enough.
Will there be a household ban of golf in chez tigger after this??

 Poor old Jamie! I know it must have been horrible horrible for him, but what about you Tigger. I know something from somewhere kicks in at a time like that but I'm not sure I could cope with all that blood! Usually if my son hurts himself and bleeds alot I have to hug him first before I can pluck up the courage to look at the bloody wound.

I hope he is fit and well and eating ice cream soon!

Dol as neurotic as I am about medical matters, that something does kick in when it comes to my kids. I'm the one in the house who stays calm and barks instructions along the lines of get some tissues, lean over the sink, let's have a look, and we need to get him to the hospital etc etc. I also was making a couple of phone calls whilst pulling my jeans on.

Thanks for all your good wishes guys. :) It really means a lot.

Crikes Tiggs - I don't know about wincing, I came over all useless, in fact I can't make a fist, I can't do this if something yukky happens.

Poor poor Jamie - ucckkkkkkk! So the hole is at the back of his mouth?? Oh poor kid - what a shock for him?

Big Hugs to you.

And I am so very impressed that you manage to remain calm - I am like that with everyone else's children or adults, but my own two and I just become a hopeless hector with no head, running in circles crying!!

I was fine when my son cut his arm open with a blade, I had only just got home from collecting my older son from scout camp and I was sitting on the sofa having a cup of tea when I heard him come screaming down the road. He came in to the kitchen and there was blood everywhere but I just stayed calm held the wound together with a clean tea towel. I then drove him to the hospital whilst my daughter sat in the back of the car with him holding the tea towel. He had to have several stitches and still has a lovely scar many years later. It was only when we got home, I felt ill and started shaking.

Gosh, that sounds hideous Tigger, as does your sons misadventure ILS.

Well done both of you for demonstrating such composure in sight of all that blood. I hope young Jamie gets better soon. Can he eat and drink normally Tigger, and can he still talk?

tigger

Nox, he can still talk, but is on soup, yoghurt and ice cream for the next few days. Not a bad diet if I say so myself. My mum is going to make him a couple of days supply of homemade stew and blend it so he can eat it. It's his favourite. :)

I forgot to add that they did say if they have to go surgically into it, they will have to remove his tonsils too as it is right next to them.

Argh argh ARRRRGGHHHH!

PLEASE tell me I don't have these kinds of escapades to look forward to! Sounds awful Tiggs & ILS.

Wait a moment... I have two boys... Oh dear...

Don't worry too much Blink - I have 2 boys and only one of them is accident prone!! Of course that's not to say only one of yours will be

Oh yes Blink, start preparing now. ILS that sounded horrible what happened to your son.

So far with Jamie he has been to A&E four times already. First time, he fell over backwards on his head and started jerking with his eyes rolling around. Second time he ran into his father, who was cooking and bounced off him and landed on his shoulder, breaking his collar bone. Third time was when he fainted a month or so back, and now this last night. Plus he has had two operations as well, both on the same thing as the surgeon messed up. :glare: I hope that as he grows older, things settle down some with him. Do you reckon there is much hope of that?

Well this isn't necessarily a bad thing in the long run Tigger - he'll never suffer from tonsilitis, which is bloody horrible!

UPDATE ON JAMIE:

I took Jamie to the hospital this morning and they looked at his throat and said it was healing nicely, but they still would like to see him in two weeks. So it looks like an operation will not be necessary *phew*.

BUT...................

In the meantime one of Jamie's teeth has abscessed. He was on Amoxicillin for the throat and the tooth still managed to abscess. So three days ago the dentist put him on another antibiotic as well, which dentists use for them. So the two of them combined should definitely have took care of it as they are both used in the treatment of abscesses. But not with Jamie. It has continued to swell so he now has to go in tomorrow as an emergency to a sedation clinic and be sedated and have the tooth removed. Poor guy, I know he must be in so much pain. Thank goodness for Calpol and Nurofen.

Aww Tigglet, you have both been through the mill haven't you? Dental abcesses are vile and very painful, he'll be better off without the tooth, hope he's feeling better soon and his Mum can stop worrying :)

Big hugs to you both

Aww Tigger, just what you, and Jamie, didn't need eh,

Hope he soon feels better after tomorrow. Tell him all of his mum's cyber friends are thinking of him.

I think I'd be tempted to take him back to the shop Tiggs, he doesn't seem to be working properly ... did he not come with an instruction manual?!?!!

... Seriously hope he is fully recovered soon. I should imagine he is feeling pretty low and run down which can sometimes cause absesses (can't it?). Anyway chin up! It's nearly Christmas!

Hey guys thanks for the good wishes. I'm doing ok, at least I will be until he has to go under sedation this afternoon. I hate to see it, and when he wakes up he doesn't remember anyone or anything. He didn't even recognise his dad last time. The worst part is that his eyes look vacant for a while, and that scares me. He also will be seeing double. He told the nurse last time when she asked how many he could see of her that he could see her and a lady who was trying to be like her. He's a complete character is my Jamie. :)

There has to be an upside to all these problems Jamie is having!! Now wait one cotton pickin moment - it is nearly Xmas - Santa will probably spoil him rotten and there is always the Ice Cream diet for the wee man.

Poor mite, I have not had an abcess but by the sounds of things they sound disgusting and very hurty - just plie him tons of ice cream and hugs and he will be a happy little boy.

OH MY GOD, Tiggs!! I have only just read this today, how awful and how......yuck!! Urgh, I have got the shivers just thinking about it. Hope he is feeling ok after his op yesterday and hope he doesn't stress you out too much in the future! Best wishes!

This made me laugh though!

Tiggs, unbelieveably I was assisting an operation exactly like this the other day! How weird is that?
Im sure he'll be fine!

Jamie is now home, well and back to his usual self. He was hilarious in the clinic as he likes to see the needle go in his hand and no matter what the nurse tried to do he was not going to be distracted from it. He woke up vacant and seeing double of everything again. The nurse had put a patch on one of his eyes to help stop this and he asked why it was on, and I told him why and he pulled it off and said he wanted to see double. He is a complete nutter! Still, I'd rather have him nutty than sick. :wink2:

It's one thing after another with Jamie. You must be relieved the operation is over and you've got your fruitcake of a son back. Can you take some sort of insurance out on him - you could make a fortune :)

He sounds a hoot Tigger, how old?? My eldest is the clumsy one, when he was younger we ended up in casualtly quite a few times...for..

* pushing a pea up his nose
* pulling the TV on top of him self
* slicing his top lip open with a pair of scissors

The day to day things, like climbing out on the window ledge, climbing onto of the mantle place, attacking the cat with a hand held mixer....we coped with ourselves.

Boys.

Tigger ..hope all is well with your little boy now...aint motherhood great!! :)

They don't tell you all this at the ante natal classes do they; the trips to casualty have been frequent for us too.

I have three boys and we have had tops of fingers sliced off in doors (fortunately sewn back on), forheads being glued back together and best of all the removal of blue tack from ear drum under GA (three days before christmas!!)

There's still lots to look forward too I'm sure!! :) :)
