View Full Version : Who is the Body Shop queen of the mb?
Dolores 14-11-2004, 09:19 PM I've been invited to yet ANOTHER body shop party tomorrow night. I'm going cos my mate who I havent seen for ages has asked me to go and she's such a good laugh that I've decided I will go along.
So far this year I have been invited to FIVE body shop parties (all from a wide spectrum of friends so it's not just one body shop party that has spawend another) Tomorrow's is the first one I'm actually going to, although I do intend to go to another one at the end of Nov as that mate likes a drop or two of vino so it should just be a wine drinking session.
How many body shop parties have you been to/been asked to go to?
Are they the new Tupperware party?
These days in-house selling parties are all the rage - what other ones has anyone been invited to? Any unusual ones?
Andrea 14-11-2004, 10:10 PM Body shop parties have gone fairly quite around here at the moment.
But last year just before Xmas I was invited to loads. There's only so many presents you can buy from one shop.
Another one is the Virgin company. One of the mums has one every year at this time. This year she actually had it over 2 days:ohmy: an open house kind of thing. I actually genuinely forgot. Good thing really, because the virgin stuff is quite expensive.
Funny thing is, going to her party last year I remember the rep saying that the products are really good and last for ages. Good I thought, I won't need to come to another party for a while then.
I haven't been to any Body Shop parties this year although I do think there was one. Personally I would rather go into the shop and have a mouch around than go to one of these parties.
I have been invited to a couple of candle parties and a couple of cooking utensil parties but I find everything is far to expensive for me so I tend not to go as I always feel obliged to buy something.
Andrea 14-11-2004, 10:22 PM I know what you mean ils about feeling obliged to buy something.
And don't you hate it when the rep says "who would like to have a party next, tonights host will get a free gift if two parties are booked"
Yes - and that is one of the main reasons I tend to avoid them as much as possible.
I have got a Virgin Vie invite on my board as I type. And I am very torn, I have no intention of buying a thing - although they do a lush eyeliner - but the girl having it said she would sell my cookbooks if I go and take a few along!! Dilemma.
I went to a Bodyshop one last year and ended up spending a stupid amount of money of teeny weeny ball eyeshadows in so many colours - I still have about 3 unopened!!
The candle one always intriques me - is it just candles??
And I blinkin well wish I would be invited to a Tupperware one - I have gone plastic mad - I now put allsorts in tupperware boxes - I love em!!!
Andrea 14-11-2004, 10:53 PM I've just been googling Tupperware and the parties have finished now.
But e-bay have loads of stuff on sale, and I've just bought 4 bowls with lids for £2.20.
I think a new addiction has been formed:)
I've been invited to 3 bodyshop parties this year, very nearly made the last one, but didnt. I would like to go a wicker basket party.
tigger 15-11-2004, 07:12 AM I tend not to go to any of these parties either. I went to a Pampered Chef one a few months ago, only because a good friend gave it, otherwise I avoid. The candle parties seem quite popular round here at the moment and I really would like to be invited to one of those, as I adore candles.
maxine 15-11-2004, 07:19 AM I haven't been invited to any Body Shop parties - ever!
Virgin Vie seems to be the thing where I live and I've been to a couple of those but find them overpriced. You can get products which are just as good and half the price in Boots.
There used to be a few Dorling Kindersley book parties here a few years ago. I even dabbled as a seller myself, but it just wasn't me.

I have never heard of a Pampered Chef one - I wouldn't mind hosting one of them. Any ideas who I may contact for this??
You would love the Pampered Chef one Flip - it is right up your street, not sure who you contact, but if you don't find out by the time I go back to work I will ask the lady who had one recently, for you.
Tiggs - I adore candles too, but I was advised not to go to one of the parties as the candles there were really expensive and you could get the same ones off the net or in a shop for around half the price. But having not gone to one myself I am not sure how true that is.
sheoque 15-11-2004, 09:13 AM I never go or do any of these. I am careful by necessity (Money for summer in Greece is my priority) and avoid all temptation to spend in this way. Our little mans pre school is part of a big combined villages school pre school church youth group choir etc etc Christmas fair at a local hotel....what did I do, gave the £60 (£10 for each family memeber) straight to pre school and told them I need no more trinkets or to buy things I want and don't need thats called my birthday.
My fave body shop product is Bergamont shower stuff.
Ceridwen 15-11-2004, 12:48 PM I don't know whether London is some kind of party desert, but I have never even HEARD of a Body Shop party!! And I have only ever been to one Ann Summers party. None of my friends have ever mentioned having been to one either. How bizarre...
karenh 15-11-2004, 06:23 PM I've never heard of a Body Shop Party either, but then I probably wouldn't go to it if I was invited, because I'm allergic to a lot of their stuff
But, I have been to a Candle Party. One of the girls at the gym invited me to one, and I went along because there was a good crowd going. Oh, and I like candles.
ILS -your mate is right! The candles are lovely, but really overpriced for what they are, and you can get just as nice online for half the price. In fact, you can get similar stuff from a High Street retailer like Wax Works.
But, the party was excellent. So excellent that I couldn't drive home and Mr H had to come and pick me up from Cheam. I did end up spending about £20 on two candles though, which I gave away as presents.
I've never been to a Body Shop party either - but my wife has.
It seems a bit daft though as we already have a Body Shop in Aberdeen!!!

I am glad you have done two things Rob.
answer this question - only this afternoon I was pondering the lack of male responses and wondering what sort of house party a bloke would go to.
and
[<- was meant to be a 2 btw] - why we go to these parties when there is a high street shop of the same name not too far away??
I understand the Ann Summers parties - I would not be seen dead in a High Street Ann Summers - but have to confess to a very jolly evening, despite my reservations, at my sisters house for an all women Ann Summers. The game of skittles involving a vibrator a rubberised yoyo and our own pelvis's was a sight to behold and an ocassion for many a Tena Lady!!!
jaycee 15-11-2004, 09:33 PM I haven't been to a Body Shop party for ages, it all seems to be Ann Summers at the moment.
& I agree with Flip........the games had us all helpless with laughter...........amazing what you can do with a pair of rubber gloves, pair of knickers & an opal fruit!
edited to say maybe opal fruit should read Starburst
I would not be seen dead in a High Street Ann Summers
Oh Flippy, you don't know what you are missing. When I was in Jersey the other week, my mates & I spent a very funny half an hour in one.....
I've never been to a body shop party, cos I've never been asked  but I love body shop products, I have loads and regularly have my own party with my boyfriend who has a knack of buying really god stuff from there. Just going :offtopic: for a moment, I heard on the radio the other day that travel agents are asking people what smells remind them of their holidays so that they can have scratch and sniff cards in store to give potential travellers a "taste" of their holday destination. Well my chap bought me some fig body scrub and lip balm from the body shop and I opened it on holiday in Canada this year. Every time I use my lip balm now I'm right back there.:cool2:
