View Full Version : If you go down the jungle today you'll find a Huggy Bear
Haydon 16-11-2004, 08:23 AM "Seventies TV star Antonio Fargas - Huggy Bear of Starsky and Hutch fame - is the surprise star among the "big names" taking part in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
According to insiders, the coolest dude on the streets of New York has never seen an episode of the reality TV show in which contestants are dumped in the rainforest."

Haydon 16-11-2004, 12:57 PM Antonio Fargas is apparently the replacement for Emma B.
Emma reportedly quit the show over fears that it would jeopardise her relationship with East 17's Brian Harvey, who is also taking part.
Starsky & Hutch was one of my favourite programmes when I was a teenager so I am looking to seeing him in the jungle :)
Andrea 16-11-2004, 01:05 PM I think he will be absolutely great, and probably one of the favourites to win.
Bonsai 16-11-2004, 01:10 PM Who is Antonio Fargas ???????
I think im a tad too young to know Huggie Bear too - although im sure i had a stuffed bear when i was younger called Huggie Bear  Is a toy going into the show ???
They are one and the same Bonnie, Antonio Fargas played Huggy Bear in S&H :)

OOOhh now i see :ninja:
But i STILL had a toy called Huggie (or Huggy) Bear when i was a kid. Im sure he had large eyes and talked !!!
Bonsai 16-11-2004, 01:16 PM Ive just found this. It was one of the toys of the year :wink2:
1978
Toy of the Year goes to the Combine Harvester made by Britains...Chad Valley introduces first clinging bear - Huggy Bear......Star Wars toys make their debut...Omar Sharif launched board and card games at the Toy Fair at the NEC. Big Hits: Play-Doh Barber Shop. Star Wars Force Beams, Matchbox Powertrack, Mr Men and new board game, Skirrid.
I had the Play-Doh barber shop too
Here is a picture of him back in the 70's http://community-2.webtv.net/RobertWehlauch/StarskyHutchFanSite/media/captureD45.jpg
Bonsai 16-11-2004, 01:20 PM I cant see it
I cant see it
Oh! I will see if I can find another :(
A lot of people won't have heard of him, but he was the coolest thing on TV at the time. He could be the dark horse of the race if his RL personality is anything like his character.
Im too young to remember him, so I couldn't care less about this "surprise star"
xrayspex 20-11-2004, 07:04 PM Coolest dude on NYC streets? Living here all my life and i never heard of this guy..lol.
xrayspex 20-11-2004, 07:24 PM Im too young to remember him, so I couldn't care less about this "surprise star" :dry:Well, im not to young to remember his face or the show in the 70s but that article makes it seem like he is still a happening celebrity here in the states...nobody has seen or heard from him in decades here.
This reminds me of another UK reality forum i was on..they were talking about Vanilla Ice (horrible washed up "rap" star from late 80s with one horrible hit song) being on some UK reality show a month or two ago.
Supposedly the show made it seem like Vanilla Ice was still a celebrity and people cared about him here in the states.
He has been completely forgotten about here in the states and sort of a joke when talking about bad musical acts from more then a decade ago..he cant get a gig here in the states anymore and hasnt been seen in over a decade.
I think these old washed up USA has been celebrities are being recruited for UK relity shows now and the UK press makes it seem like these washed ups are still revelant here in US. :)
Voice of reason 20-11-2004, 07:28 PM Lol, in fairness spex most of the UK 'celeb's' in this gig have little relevence here either! It's a fact that no one with a living, breathing, paying the bills type career goes on to a show like this, even if it is for 'charidee.' It's meant to be a springboard to new work I think, though in Vanilla Ice's case all it did was remind us what a total donkey he truly is :)

I was amazed to even find out he went on some UK reality show and was even asked.

It was something called 'The Farm' and it was on our least popular TV Channel (CH5) it ran for 2 weeks and basically involved a group of 'celeb's' supposedly running a farm under the guidance of a real farmer (he was gorgeous and the best thing in it!) It was pretty underwhelming on the whole.

It was pretty underwhelming on the whole.ahh..channel 5 was the one last year that had all those reality show stars in that phony house that sort of bombed. Enjoyed watching their free live streams of it though..what was it called again? Are they bringing that back too or was it a total bomb?
Damn..i need my streaming live reality show fix.
Edit...oh, i remember now..it was "back to reality"
secrets 20-11-2004, 07:51 PM Hey Xrayspecs is anyone streaming this this time around?

Pandora 21-11-2004, 03:30 PM Im too young to remember him, so I couldn't care less about this "surprise star" :dry:I think this is going to be the problem - the average age range of people watching the show arent going to know who the hell Huggy Bear is (or care), ditto Sheila Ferguson ........
I really feel, looking at the list of celebrities, that theyve had a great deal of difficulty getting anyone interested this year ....

There definitely appears to be a problem with attracting people with high or even medium celebrity status. Maybe the conclusion is that it does their careers more harm than good. But then you get someone like Linda Barker who appears on every other advert who must be raking it in.
Back to Huggy, how come he looks exactly the same as he did twenty years ago. This seems a tad unfair.
Andrea 21-11-2004, 11:14 PM Huggy didn't really appear much in tonight's show I don't think.
I hope they edit him in a bit more tomorrow. I'd really like to see what he is like.

I thought that Nox - he doesn't look a day older than back then!!!
Coastie 22-11-2004, 02:55 PM I think he could do rather well in this show.....I couldn't believe it when Huggy Bear turned up....I know his names been on the list for yonks but sorry....I only know him as Huggy!...go Huggy!
secrets 23-11-2004, 10:30 PM Well 'Huggy' doesn't seem to contribute much in the way of effort or entertainment does he?
I think if he carries on like this he will go first.
Andrea 23-11-2004, 10:34 PM Maybe they will edit him in a bit more tomorrow and then he will get to do a trial:wink2:
A lot is down to editing as we all know!!!
Pandora 23-11-2004, 10:54 PM A lot is down to editing as we all know!!!Very true, but he doesnt seem to do much does he?
Very true, but he doesnt seem to do much does he?
